• Social Media is an active role in today’s society. I looked at the ways in which social media affected student
involvement and engagement throughout the first year experience programming. Freshmen students are
required to live on campus as well as be enrolled in one experimental class. I particularly looked at the role
of various social media technologies (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube) as ways to engage students in
both in-class learning as well as out-of-class programming (i.e. comedy shows, concerts)

YouTube how-to hair tutorials. This project needed to be approved by the Institutional Review Board.
Utilized a variety of methods of observation from participant observation, and other methods of research,
conducted 3-hours of transcribed interviews also presented a 20-minute research finding presentation

• Worked with the Associate Dean of Student Involvement and Engagement, the special projects Manager as
well as the Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. The purpose of the internship
was to find new ways and eliminate ways that do not benefit the retention rates. Ultimately came up with
three suggestions for improvement though the semester long internship which implored both practicum and
research though a variety of articles on Student Involvement, engagement, and retention.
