2. A film distributor is a company or individual responsible for the
marketing of a film. The distributor may set the release date of a
film and the method by which a film is to be shown or made
available for viewing, for instance, directly to the public either
theatrically or for home viewing.
The top four distributing companies are as followed:
Warner Bros.
Total Box Office -
$34,979,197,149
Walt Disney
Total Box Office -
$30,428,612,492
Sony Pictures
Total Box Office -
$28,433,340,694
Paramount
Pictures
Total Box Office -
$27,891,527,663
3. For this film opening I have chosen the production-distribution
company, ‘Orion Pictures’. Orion Pictures is an American
Independent production and distribution company which was
established in 1978 until 1998. It was formed in 1978 as a joint
venture between Warner Bros and three former top-level
executives of United Artists. Although it was never a large motion
picture producer, Orion achieved a successfully high reputation
for ‘Hollywood quality’. I thought that this independent
distribution company would be a brilliant suit for my Art House
styled film opening.
Woody Allen, James Cameron, Jonathan Demme, Oliver Stone
and several other prominent directors worked with Orion during
its most successful years.
4. One of the main reasons I chose ‘Orion Pictures’ as my media
products’ film opening was due to it’s filmography. Orion Pictures
has distributed a range of genres, mainly covering Comedy, Crime
and Mystery, which were the main genres my film opening was
aiming for:
Miami Blues
(1990)
Crime-Thriller
Cadillac Man
(1990)
Comedy
At Close Range
(1986)
Crime-Drama
Best Seller
(1987)
Crime
Love at Large
(1990)
Mystery
