3. THE GERMAN OCCUPATION
Much of Europe was occupied by Nazi
Germany during the Second World War
(1939-1945). Before that Germany has
started to taken territories. The first
country they took was Poland. During
the next years, the German troops
conquered almost all of Europe. But
with the help of “The Resistance” , they
stopped the invasion and made them
lose territories.

6. THE OCCUPATION OF DENMARK
It started in the operation Weserübung. The Germans had invaded Denmark in 1940,
under the threat of bombing, the government, according to the king, accepted the
german condicion. On October, 1943, had started efforts against the Danish Jews.
Only 500 were caught; 7000 managed to escape to Sweden with the help of the
“Resistance”. Finally on May, 1945, an English generally comes into Danish territory
with his troops and liberated Denmark. German soldiers left Denmark without
resistance and the occupation ended.
7. The population didn’t give up, and from the second year
of occupation, nonviolent forms of resistance began to
appear, they tried to stop the Germans and finish the
war, but without results since 1943 they became
violent. Until the end of the war more than 850
members had been executed in prison, in concentration
camps or were killed in combat.
THE DANISH RESISTANCE
8. The resistance helped the Jews to start the trip to Sweden. During the transfers, the villagers
gave them shelter in their homes, barns and churches. Danish and Swedish fishermen were
charged to transfer around 7,000 Danish Jews.
