My Favorite Pieces Of Literature
"Examples of My Favorite Pieces of Literature" There are many different types of Literature, and throughout high school, most of us read and
study famous pieces written by popular authors. I enjoyed reading and studying all types of literature in school, but my favorite was a story or
poem that talked about how to overcome the obstacles and unforeseen circumstances we sometimes face in life. I chose the following three pieces
because each one had an impact on me and gave me motivation and strength to face and overcome challenges in my life. Each piece demonstrates
that the outcome of our inner happiness or success lies in our reaction to unforeseen circumstances and the choices we make to overcome them.
My first selection of literature is one of my favorite poems by Robert Frost. I read "The Road Not Taken" in my high school junior English class. I
like this poem and still remember it because I felt a deep connection to it. In high school, peer pressure is very challenging, and this poem made me
feel better about making good decisions not to follow the crowd just to fit in or be popular. The poem begins with a traveler walking in the woods.
He soon comes to a fork in a road, and he has to make a choice between two paths. Unable to see what lies ahead, he examines both roads closely and
makes a decision to take the road less worn by other travelers. This symbolizes the choice he must make between two directions in life. The traveler
tries to cheer

My Favorite Story
My favorite story is the Hsu family's for one primary reason: I find this story the most relatable of all four. Not only have I been passive like Rose even
until now, but my mother was also raised similarly to An–mei. In a traditionally Vietnamese environment, she was regularly told to "eat [her] own
bitterness" (Tan 260) . Travelling away from her hometown in Nam Dinh for university in the urban Ho Chi Minh City, she was let to think for herself
for the first time. Although the permeating expectations of conformity from my father and society were other big obstacles, my mom never stopped
telling me to stand up for myself. In my life, my mom has been the only woman, and for hers my grandmother. The maternal bonds in my family have

Both of them have slowly shifted towards the yinyang equilibrium: a balance of belief in fate and will. The theme is also present explicitly in details.
Bad feng shui and the unstable table in the Jordan household represent the marriage as something that could collapse anytime. Similar symbolism can
be found in Rose, whose imbalance and passivity are "like a weed, growing wild in all directions (233). Thus, she couldn't find the resolution to take
action until much later. The theme not only manifests itself in these actual details, but also the shift of belief towards the balance of "fate" and "faith"
of An–mei and Ying–ying
The notions of balance and feng shui do translate to the characters' lives in America. After one week of settling in a new apartment, Ying
–ying begins to
rearrange everything in this new home, so that good feng shui is attained. Later, Ying–ying knows that there are serious problems in her daughter's
marriage just by looking at her daughter's house's imbalance, which is embodied by "the slant of the floor" (184) and the "sloped roof – [with] two
lopsides" (184). Ying–ying uses feng shui to accurately evaluate the house, which "underneath all the fancy details ... is still a barn" (184).
Additionally, at the beginning of the story when June hesitates to join the mahjong table, Lindo says, "how can we play with just three people? Like a
table with three legs, no balance"

My Favorite Hobby Of Reading
I am an avid reader and reading has been my favorite hobby for a great deal of my life. This is probably because my parents value literacy and they
have almost always encouraged me to read. The exceptions being when I am supposed to be doing something else, such as completing homework
or sleeping. When I was young, they read all sorts of picture books to me, especially those by Dr. Seuss and Eric Carle. When my father read Green
Eggs and Ham to me, he altered the words when he read it to me, replacing "I do not like that Sam–I–am" with "I do love that Sam–I–am." Later, when
I was in first grade, I read Magic Tree House #1: Dinosaurs Before Dark while on an indoor break. I found it on a bookshelf and decided to read it,
which took me a while since it was the first non–picture book that I had read on my own. But I eventually managed to finish it and I felt really proud
of myself. I enjoyed the book and the magic involved fascinated me. I later read a couple more Magic Tree House books from the shelf and asked my
parents to get the first twenty–eight when we saw them on sale at BJs (the series started in 1992 and they were selling fourteen–book boxed sets). The
Magic Tree House series introduced me to the concept of magic, the impossible kind that is not just a trick. As the first proper fantasy book that I
ever read, Dinosaurs Before Dark opened the gateway to the fantasy genre for me. After I read it, my parents saw my interest in fantasy novels and
introduced me to the Harry

My Three Favorite Stories from English Class
Every book is different in some way or another. As they are written in different styles and with different rhetorical devices. The most general thing
that is different about most books is the genres. While the most specific thing that is different about books are settings, characters, and writing
styles. Many books may seem alike in some ways, but have very different stories to tell. A very good quote that is usually said when reading is the
topic is, "Don't judge a book by its cover." A very vague saying, but it works so well with every piece of literature. It could be interpreted by what
people say about, the reviews, or the actual cover of the work. Many times when you read different texts you will get a sense of wonderment and
complete adoration for it. When you truly like something this much it will have that effect. This is my favorite three stories from Mr. McGee's
freshman Honors English Class.
The first story that I really enjoyed from McGee's class was the story known as "Slam, Dunk, & Hook". This story is all about Basketball. The feelings
when you play, the intense emotions of the game, and the craziest and most adored moves of basketball. As I read it I felt as if this went perfectly
with me. As I read it I could remember all the times I had gone around someone or made a good pass or shot. Playing basketball also made me feel
extremely close to the story. Also, with all the short and very passionate sentence structure I felt fully immersed in basketball

Personal Narrative : My Favorite Memories
Throughout my years in school, I would watch in awe as my teachers stood in front of the class with a sense of confidence and ease. The older I
became, the more I realized how much educators did in order to make sure that the students in their classrooms succeeded. Even when I was not at
school, I sometimes got an inside perspective of the life of an educator from my aunt, who is a first grade teacher. I would hear all about the lessons
that she planned and some of the experiences that she has had as an educator. As she spoke about her experiences, I could genuinely tell how much
she enjoyed expanding the minds of her students. As I grew older, I recognized how much I enjoyed being with and helping children, whether it was
one of my peers or the children whom I babysat. One of my favorite memories is of babysitting a child who was struggling with her history
homework. I sat down with her, re–read the question aloud and walked her through the chapter in her book to find the answer. The moment she found
the answer in the book her face lit up. That is one of the many reasons that I want to be an educator. I love seeing the excitement of a child who was
once struggling when he or she finally reads a word that was challenging, or figures out the answer to a difficult mathematical question.
Since I can remember, I have dedicated my non–school time to working with children in different settings. My first real experience was in my early
teen years when I started babysitting.

My Story : My Favorite Kind Of Story
Who doesn't love a good cliche? The good guy gets the girl, the hero beats the villain, everyone lives happily ever after. Everyone loves it, but let's
be honest, it gets boring after a while. Just imagine it though, what if a book were as unpredictable as life? Wouldn't that be more exciting? What if
you finished a series and you didn't know if the characters were really okay, and there was no sign of a sequel coming out? It leaves you with a
feeling of frustration, concern, or perhaps even panic. That right there is my favorite type of story. There's just one problem: It's near impossible
to find those stories. Or so we are led to believe. There's a simple solution: look around you. Everyone has their own story. You, me, the person
three blocks down the road mowing their lawn. We all have our own story to tell. She was my best friend, and she was absolutely stunning. Never
in my life had there ever been someone who caught my eye like she did. She wasn't by any means perfect, but the story she hid behind her smile,
how she kept going even though most would give up, it was amazing. I loved her with all of my heart, and to this day I still do. It was days after
the emotional rollercoaster that I had been through after she had left school that I realized I was no longer straight like I once believed. I thought,
"Maybe I'm bisexual?" No, not quite. When I really looked into my identity, I realized I didn't care what someone identified as. If I loved someone,
it was because of their personality and the story they held within them. The more I did research on the different sexualities and identities, the more
queer I realized I was, and for four years, from 8th grade to right before my senior year, I believed I was content with being genderfluid and
pansexual. Being queer, though, comes with the downfall of feeling as though you don't quite fit in. Personally, I didn't care if I fit in, since I had
been an outcast all of my life. Others, however, felt very different from me. Some people felt like they just had to fit in, so I wanted to be there to
help them feel like they had a place in the world, too. I had spent so long helping others get out of their personal darkness, that I hadn't realized I had
sunk further

My Favourite Book
It's hard to imagine our lives without books. We learn a lot of interesting things when we read books. Books are our great friend, teachers and
advisers. They teach us how to take the next step when we are in a difficult situation. They help to shape our life. It is impossible to become an
educated person without books. Besides, books play an important role in upbringing our feelings, views and tastes; give us a lot of useful
information. Frankly speaking I'm not a bookworm but when I have spare time I read books with great pleasure. It seems to me that books are a
source of emotional inspiration and romantic feelings, it's a miracle in some way, because an author provides a story and a reader can conjure the

Books are worth reading. Really, they are our good friends.
My favourite book
Most teenagers have different opinions on reading. As for me, I think reading is very important, because books help to discover new things, to learn
more about life. Also books tell us about lives of famous people and other interesting things.
The book I`m reading now is "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer. Stephanie Meyer is a modern American writer. She was born in 1973 in Hartford,
Connecticut. She grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, along with two sisters and three brothers. "Twilight" is a novel about vampires, written by Stephanie
Meyer. The main characters of the novel are a vampire and the girl dreamed author in a dream... It is a Vampire novel, the first edition of which only
in the United States broke up a record run of 100 000 copies! The book, which became a cult for youth not only in English–speaking countries, but in
France, Spain, Scandinavia, Japan and China.
The plot of this book has described on how Bella Swan moves from sunny Phoenix to rainy Forks, Washington, to his father, Charlie. On the first day
of the new school Bella sees a strange, very beautiful family Cullen. Bella is very interested in this family, especially in Edward.
At the first lesson at Biology, plant for one party with Edward. Bell struck by the fact that he looks at her with an incomprehensible hatred. As soon as
the bell rings, he runs out of the class, and the next few days does not appear in the school.

Reading And Writing : My Favorite Skills
Over the years that I have been in school, reading and writing have not been my favorite skills. Although recently I have become a very good
reader and a much better writer than I was before. There are certain branches of writing that I excel at, like argumentative or persuasive, which I
enjoy because I love telling people that they're wrong and explaining why they should do things. However, I'm not as great at say, coming up with a
story in which I have to make up characters and a plot. In reading, I try to get and read books that I'm interested in, but when they are boring books
and topics or stories that don't interest me, I struggle to find a drive to read whatever it is. One thing that I take pride of in my writing is my vast
vocabulary, but it wasn't always like that. Previously in elementary school, I wrote run on sentences which would sometimes get to 30 words with no
commas. But obviously that changed as I proceeded into middle school, and one of the main reasons of that was Mrs.Schwerin's class. In her class was
really when I understood sentence structure, the use of commas, and when certain marks are appropriate or not. Another thing that makes my writing
better is my organization. I always have different topics in their own paragraphs and rarely will they leak into each other. Also, if i'm making a
narrative, the story will progress nicely and have good momentum. Those parts of my writing are good assets, but like everyone I do have my
weaknesses. The first

My Favorite Class Essay
My favorite classes this year were Mrs. Menzel's two english classes. I have learned so much about myself as a reader, student, and an intellectual.
Through both of her classes, we were given endless amounts of opportunity. What I mean by this is, we got to choose our own topics to study,
books to read, and subjects to write about. We were truly treated like adults, which in my eyes, helped prepare us for the "real world". Her
willingness to let us grow as individuals was very inspiring, because she believed that we could do it on our own, with a little push whenever we
needed it. I have gotten the chance to discover that I actually enjoy reading! Specifically, I discovered that Jodi Picoult might be my favorite author
as of now. Also, I realized that writing is one of my favorite things to do, it is a passion of mine and I hope I can continue it somehow with the career
that I choose.
Personally, her two classes have helped me grow as a speaker, writer, and reader. In her CCC class, I was able to write a profile on my dad, which
really strengthened my relationship with him. After printing him a copy, and seeing tears in his eyes made me very grateful for this experience to
share with him how much of a role model he is to me. In her English Lit class, I was able to ask my grandma and mom what books they would
recommend for me. Having these conversations with them made their hearts warm, since I was showing interest in books for once (they are both
book lovers). Her class pushed me to be the best that I can, and it wasn't for the grade that I got. It was for learning about myself, and what I was
capable of. That's when I learned that her classes are actually changing me as a student. For an example, when I was working on a project, I wasn't
basing every single sentence on what the rubric told me to do. I was branching out and working on it because I truly wanted to learn more about the
topic and put my all into it.
Thankfully, I have matured a great amount as a student because of Mrs. Menzel and her life lessons through teaching, and by just being herself. I
truly feel ready for college now because of Mrs. Menzel, and I am grateful for that. This year, I changed my intended major from Business to Education,

Personal Narrative : My Favorite Childhood Memory
My Favorite Childhood Memory Have you ever wondered what it is like being home alone, all by yourself and can't go anywhere? In my story I
am about to tell you there is a moral/lesson that I had learned throughout this experience. It was when i was about 7 years old during this time, and
this was a long time ago at my old house which is by the lake in Cedar Lake. The lesson that i learn in this experience is that you should never keep
doing something you know you should not do, or else you will be consequences. First of all, when i was only about 7 years old at my house house,
by a lake, I was known for being a troublemaker.During this time, I always did mostly anything that got me in trouble, so one day it all started n

coming from down the road where my secret hide–out was where no one else knew where it was, only me.Anyway, they were getting closer and
closer to me, I didn't know what to do so I ran outta my hide–out straight back home where my parents were waiting.I got in trouble that time and then

My Favorite Myth
"a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a people or explaining some natural or social phenomenon, and typically
involving supernatural beings or events." A myth is a story that can be a fictional story or a real event, depending on who you ask. For example, you
could ask a non religious man about the myth of "Zeus" and he might say that an event like that could never happen. Then, you could ask a religious
man about it and he might say that it really did happen. No one knows, this is because myths are usually based on old times. This means that no one
can prove or debunk these myths properly. With that being said, I will now talk about one of my favorite myths, and one of the most popular;.King
Midas and the golden touch.
Midas was a king who had everything. He had a wife, children, and was extremely rich. He was very greedy too. He would cover his body in gold and
bathe in it. Gold made him happier than anything else he had. One day, Dionysus,...show more content...
He loved his money more than he loves his friends and family. He only thought of gold and how to get more of it. This is sickening and he deserved
the punishment that he got. This myth also shows not to take things for granted and to love your family more than anything else. Even though it was
not as severe as in other stories, it was necessary. Not much is known about the origin of this myth. Most myths don't have a clear origin. However,
Research can tell you that King Midas lived in the prosperous city of Gordion, a site in what is now central Turkey, circa 750–700 BCE, ruling Phrygia
and influencing the neighboring kingdoms. He likely reigned during the time in which Homer's Iliad was first written down. That concludes King
Midas' story. King Midas was a greedy man who did not realize that the greatest gift he had was his family. That almost doomed him if it weren't for
his change of heart thanks to his

My Favorite Story Moment
I'm pretty lucky, my favorite story moment happens immediately. The story starts with a child Oliver and a woman in her early 30s Emmeline I think
they are the most important characters to the story, because their actions set up why the story is happing, and why it is episodic. The fear felt by first
Emmeline and then by Oliver helps reinforce the horror the show has and will convey.
The aesthetic choices were the dark stage which sets up the horror theme of the performance. The gothic clothing, which brings a specific period of time
to mind, Victorian I think. And the sounds such as the chorus announcing the "curse", the heavy beats and lighting in the background, which also helps
set the horror feel of the performance.
This performance reinforces the idea that you do not need much to have a powerful performance. There were two people, a box, and door. This
important scene did not need a ton of props, a lot of space, or a full cast, just us the audience and them the performers. The way the actors spoke, their
accents help me to be transported to the scene. The space between the box and the exit is also important to me. All it took to avoid the "curse" was a
few steps.
I think the thing that made this story work was the passion, excitement and cohesion of the troop. The entire story 4 different "episodes happen in the
same space with nothing but minimal pros to transport us the audience to this world. I think one way to make the performance more effective would
have been

My Favorite Story
Out of all the short stories read in class, my favorite was "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" Joyce Carol Oates's story was my
favorite because of her terrifying antagonist Arnold Friend. The way that Arnold Friend convinces Connie to get into his car even though she
knows she will be putting her life in severe danger is chilling. I also really appreciated that Oates allows the audience to form their own opinions on
the plot of the story. For example, "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" is told in a way that allows the readers to come to their own
conclusions regarding whether Arnold Friend was really the Devill in disguise or if the whole story was just Connie dreaming. I also really enjoyed
Arthur Conan Doyle's "A Scandal in Bohemia." Doyle's story was one of my favorites because of the characters Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler.
As I am a huge fan of the show Sherlock aired on British Broadcasting Network, I had already grown fond of these two complex characters and
looked forward to reading about them in Doyle's original story. Even though the plot of the short story was less complex and more condensed than
BBC's remake, it was still just as enjoyable. I especially enjoyed that Sherlock had a more negative view towards women so Irene Adler's beating
him was even better. My third favorite story was Agatha Christie's "The Witness for the Prosecution" because of its classic Christie plot twist at the
end. I have always been a fan of Agatha Christie ever

My Favorite Quote Analysis
My favorite quote will always be by Sappho in which she says, "Someone, I tell you, in another time will remember us." She was right. She's
remembered for being a gay poet and is immortalized despite a lot of her works not being found completely. It's one of my favorite quotes because
identifying as a nonbinary queer person who also likes girls, I can relate to Sappho a lot when she writes about her desire for love and personal
heartbreaks. This quote also brings me ease as even in "another time" someone will still remember me. I think we all want to leave a legacy of some
sort, and for me I want my legacy to be centered around my experience and accomplishments as an American born Punjabi artist and social activist,
who was also highly active in the LGBTQ+ community. I want someone to remember me because it is a vicious cycle that people of color and
members of the color in the LGBTQ+ community get forgotten in history. History is white– washed. But the idea that I will do enough in my life to be
remembered in some shape or form, reminds me that my efforts and failures as a Punjabi artist and social activist are just part of a legacy I am starting.
Moving on, my strength and determination did not magically appear one day. I had a lot of amazing people who are a part of my support network
who helped show me what healthy self love and growth is supposed to be. One of the people I will be highlighting is my AP English teacher.
Candice Ligator, was one of the best, and one of my favorite teachers in my high school career. She was a big part of my support system when it
came to being a trans and queer student who had a lot of family issues. She was also a big inspiration to me as she told us stories full of struggles
growing as a teacher. She talked about how starting off as a teacher at first made her cry every night, showing me that it takes persistence to be
adept in a profession. Her choices on the pieces of literature she taught were engaging as they touched upon feminism, gay rights, and race. This
allowed me to explore both my interest in writing and in social justice. Reading about personal experiences from Mary Shelley, Oscar Wilde, and
Ralph Ellison was inspiring as it allowed me to see that I can

The Hobbit : My Favorite Story
As a kid, my parents weren't really around, so my sister and I were raised by twenty five different nannies over the course of fifteen years. Because
of this, I grew up hearing a wide variety of bedtime stories ranging from bible stories, to nursery rhymes, to hymns completely in Italian, to the
adventures of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. The Hobbit was always my favorite story. I loved it because J.R.R. Tolkien always knew how to give
any situation a sort of thrilling peril. I always imagined being on Bilbo's Unexpected Journey with him. As a five year old, I wanted to fight Smaug,
save Thorin, and maybe get a little gold in the process. (This thought process still holds true to this day) Then, when I was in elementary school, I started

Because as soon as I do have a moment's peace, I'm expected be keeping up with other people's lives too through social media. That being said,
when I do get a chance to read as a school assignment, I do generally like the books. My favorite book that I've read at school so far has been
"1984". I liked that book because my sophomore english teacher, Mrs. Powell, explained it really well, and the book in general really made me
think about my values as a person, and what it means to be a person. I usually buy all my books so that I can add them to my bookshelf at home
once I'm done with them. Another problem that I have encountered in my high school book reading career, is that I tend to get bored with books
now. For instance, I will start reading a book for "fun", but then I'll get about half way through it, and then I'll set it down. Then, once I set it down,
I usually won't pick it back up for another six months! For Example, I borrowed a book called, "Eragon" from my friend Gavin. For about a week I
was really into the book, mostly because it was a fantasy novel about magic and dragons. But then, I looked at the page count, and I still had one
thousand pages left in the book! AND THEN AFTER THAT I HAD SEVEN OTHER BOOKS AFTER THAT! ALL WITH ONE THOUSAND PAGES
EACH. So, being a freshman who was completely overwhelmed, I put down the book. Then... I didn't give Gavin his book back until 2 years later,
once I finally finished the book. This habit of mine has

A Story That Changed My Life
Out of 7 billion people, today I'm going to tell you my story. Everyone has a different story. Everyone has been through something that has changed
that person. Same thing happened to me. Let me start my story from the beginning. I was born in a small town waling. I was brought up to
Kathmandu when I was two years old for the better lifestyle. My life was like any other people. I had two siblings. We were like a happy family.
My life was normal and I had a lot of fun with my friends, cousins, and family. When I was in 2nd grade my dad moved to United State, which was
really sad moments for everyone because he was going far away from everyone in a new place. Everyone cried and so did I. I was really emotional
person back then so I couldn't control my tears. I was a kid back then so I did a lot of stupid stuff, whenever I think about that, it brings all my
memories back. My life was like any other day. Since my dad was in United State, I knew one day my whole family is going to move to United
State. One day, my mom told me in four months, we gonna move to United State. I was really happy about it but at the same time, I didn't want to
move. I was telling my mom, what If I move after Slc and of course, she didn't listen. But I was ok. I dreamed about so many stuff, like what I am
gonna do, how's the lifestyle is gonna be there. One thing I was really happy about it was that I was gonna leave my school because I didn't like my
school. Teachers were cruel and strict but now when

Personal Narrative : My Favorite Vacation
Trying to find memories is like looking for treasure. You look at the surface and see something mediocre, but you dig deep and find something
cool, pretty, and meaningful. It took a while to think of a fond memory, but once I thought of some, it was hard to choose a favorite. Growing up I
have had many great experiences in the form of vacations. Between going to Disney World, owning a vacation home, hanging out with my
grandparents in Arizona, traveling to Canada and more. They all make amazing memories that I will forever cherish. The vacation spot we go to the
most, though, is Wisconsin Dells. A few times I have been allowed to invite friends to come with. When I am allowed to bring friends, it is always a
ginormous amount of fun. We goof off in thehotel room, play in the arcades, and swim in the water parks.
My favorite vacation, so far, is one I went on in September 2015 with my friends Alissa and Jaidah. We all share fandom interests. On the weekend
of September 19, my brother went away to spend his birthday with my dad. My mom shook me awake and informed me I could bring two friends
along to a room in the Dells that we would be occupying. Almost immediately I thought of the duo. I ran downstairs and texted both of them while
packing a bag. They texted back not too long after, and I told them my mom and I would pick them up anywhere from 10–11 that Saturday morning.
We picked up Alissa and she tried to direct us to Jaidah's house, but she wasn't thorough with her

My Favorite Teacher in History
In my school there are many teachers. Each one teaches us different subjects. Although all of them are fairly good, there is one teacher whom I
love and admire the most. Her name is Mrs. Grace Gilo. There are some teachers, who hardly ever make an impact on, or touch someone's life for
the better. Some just go through life teaching. But there are some that change a person's life, for the better. She was the kind of person that everyone
loved. She never asked too much, or expected too much. She is the most pleasing personality that I have ever come across. She is an ideal teacher.

My Favorite Statement Analysis
My favourite statement you made was in reference to shared roles and responsibilities. It's important to work as a team. .This is a tricky scenario
because all EAs have experience and knowledge to drawn on. Communicating like you said so the teacher can hear his theory and an open
discussion can hopefully occur. I'm not sure how a supervising teacher would respond to being given a report containing professional resources to
back up his theory. It may be interpreted too strongly as trying to prove the teacher wrong. The A.T.A states teachers have a right to have their
professional expertise recognized (Rights and Responsibilities, p.9) This could all depend on how well you know your teacher and what type of
relationship has been built. In

My Favorite Pieces Of Literature

  • 1. My Favorite Pieces Of Literature "Examples of My Favorite Pieces of Literature" There are many different types of Literature, and throughout high school, most of us read and study famous pieces written by popular authors. I enjoyed reading and studying all types of literature in school, but my favorite was a story or poem that talked about how to overcome the obstacles and unforeseen circumstances we sometimes face in life. I chose the following three pieces because each one had an impact on me and gave me motivation and strength to face and overcome challenges in my life. Each piece demonstrates that the outcome of our inner happiness or success lies in our reaction to unforeseen circumstances and the choices we make to overcome them. My first selection of literature is one of my favorite poems by Robert Frost. I read "The Road Not Taken" in my high school junior English class. I like this poem and still remember it because I felt a deep connection to it. In high school, peer pressure is very challenging, and this poem made me feel better about making good decisions not to follow the crowd just to fit in or be popular. The poem begins with a traveler walking in the woods. He soon comes to a fork in a road, and he has to make a choice between two paths. Unable to see what lies ahead, he examines both roads closely and makes a decision to take the road less worn by other travelers. This symbolizes the choice he must make between two directions in life. The traveler tries to cheer Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. My Favorite Story My favorite story is the Hsu family's for one primary reason: I find this story the most relatable of all four. Not only have I been passive like Rose even until now, but my mother was also raised similarly to An–mei. In a traditionally Vietnamese environment, she was regularly told to "eat [her] own bitterness" (Tan 260) . Travelling away from her hometown in Nam Dinh for university in the urban Ho Chi Minh City, she was let to think for herself for the first time. Although the permeating expectations of conformity from my father and society were other big obstacles, my mom never stopped telling me to stand up for myself. In my life, my mom has been the only woman, and for hers my grandmother. The maternal bonds in my family have always...show more content... Both of them have slowly shifted towards the yinyang equilibrium: a balance of belief in fate and will. The theme is also present explicitly in details. Bad feng shui and the unstable table in the Jordan household represent the marriage as something that could collapse anytime. Similar symbolism can be found in Rose, whose imbalance and passivity are "like a weed, growing wild in all directions (233). Thus, she couldn't find the resolution to take action until much later. The theme not only manifests itself in these actual details, but also the shift of belief towards the balance of "fate" and "faith" of An–mei and Ying–ying The notions of balance and feng shui do translate to the characters' lives in America. After one week of settling in a new apartment, Ying –ying begins to rearrange everything in this new home, so that good feng shui is attained. Later, Ying–ying knows that there are serious problems in her daughter's marriage just by looking at her daughter's house's imbalance, which is embodied by "the slant of the floor" (184) and the "sloped roof – [with] two lopsides" (184). Ying–ying uses feng shui to accurately evaluate the house, which "underneath all the fancy details ... is still a barn" (184). Additionally, at the beginning of the story when June hesitates to join the mahjong table, Lindo says, "how can we play with just three people? Like a table with three legs, no balance" Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. My Favorite Hobby Of Reading I am an avid reader and reading has been my favorite hobby for a great deal of my life. This is probably because my parents value literacy and they have almost always encouraged me to read. The exceptions being when I am supposed to be doing something else, such as completing homework or sleeping. When I was young, they read all sorts of picture books to me, especially those by Dr. Seuss and Eric Carle. When my father read Green Eggs and Ham to me, he altered the words when he read it to me, replacing "I do not like that Sam–I–am" with "I do love that Sam–I–am." Later, when I was in first grade, I read Magic Tree House #1: Dinosaurs Before Dark while on an indoor break. I found it on a bookshelf and decided to read it, which took me a while since it was the first non–picture book that I had read on my own. But I eventually managed to finish it and I felt really proud of myself. I enjoyed the book and the magic involved fascinated me. I later read a couple more Magic Tree House books from the shelf and asked my parents to get the first twenty–eight when we saw them on sale at BJs (the series started in 1992 and they were selling fourteen–book boxed sets). The Magic Tree House series introduced me to the concept of magic, the impossible kind that is not just a trick. As the first proper fantasy book that I ever read, Dinosaurs Before Dark opened the gateway to the fantasy genre for me. After I read it, my parents saw my interest in fantasy novels and introduced me to the Harry Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Three Favorite Stories from English Class Every book is different in some way or another. As they are written in different styles and with different rhetorical devices. The most general thing that is different about most books is the genres. While the most specific thing that is different about books are settings, characters, and writing styles. Many books may seem alike in some ways, but have very different stories to tell. A very good quote that is usually said when reading is the topic is, "Don't judge a book by its cover." A very vague saying, but it works so well with every piece of literature. It could be interpreted by what people say about, the reviews, or the actual cover of the work. Many times when you read different texts you will get a sense of wonderment and complete adoration for it. When you truly like something this much it will have that effect. This is my favorite three stories from Mr. McGee's freshman Honors English Class. The first story that I really enjoyed from McGee's class was the story known as "Slam, Dunk, & Hook". This story is all about Basketball. The feelings when you play, the intense emotions of the game, and the craziest and most adored moves of basketball. As I read it I felt as if this went perfectly with me. As I read it I could remember all the times I had gone around someone or made a good pass or shot. Playing basketball also made me feel extremely close to the story. Also, with all the short and very passionate sentence structure I felt fully immersed in basketball Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Personal Narrative : My Favorite Memories Throughout my years in school, I would watch in awe as my teachers stood in front of the class with a sense of confidence and ease. The older I became, the more I realized how much educators did in order to make sure that the students in their classrooms succeeded. Even when I was not at school, I sometimes got an inside perspective of the life of an educator from my aunt, who is a first grade teacher. I would hear all about the lessons that she planned and some of the experiences that she has had as an educator. As she spoke about her experiences, I could genuinely tell how much she enjoyed expanding the minds of her students. As I grew older, I recognized how much I enjoyed being with and helping children, whether it was one of my peers or the children whom I babysat. One of my favorite memories is of babysitting a child who was struggling with her history homework. I sat down with her, re–read the question aloud and walked her through the chapter in her book to find the answer. The moment she found the answer in the book her face lit up. That is one of the many reasons that I want to be an educator. I love seeing the excitement of a child who was once struggling when he or she finally reads a word that was challenging, or figures out the answer to a difficult mathematical question. Since I can remember, I have dedicated my non–school time to working with children in different settings. My first real experience was in my early teen years when I started babysitting. • 6. My Story : My Favorite Kind Of Story Who doesn't love a good cliche? The good guy gets the girl, the hero beats the villain, everyone lives happily ever after. Everyone loves it, but let's be honest, it gets boring after a while. Just imagine it though, what if a book were as unpredictable as life? Wouldn't that be more exciting? What if you finished a series and you didn't know if the characters were really okay, and there was no sign of a sequel coming out? It leaves you with a feeling of frustration, concern, or perhaps even panic. That right there is my favorite type of story. There's just one problem: It's near impossible to find those stories. Or so we are led to believe. There's a simple solution: look around you. Everyone has their own story. You, me, the person three blocks down the road mowing their lawn. We all have our own story to tell. She was my best friend, and she was absolutely stunning. Never in my life had there ever been someone who caught my eye like she did. She wasn't by any means perfect, but the story she hid behind her smile, how she kept going even though most would give up, it was amazing. I loved her with all of my heart, and to this day I still do. It was days after the emotional rollercoaster that I had been through after she had left school that I realized I was no longer straight like I once believed. I thought, "Maybe I'm bisexual?" No, not quite. When I really looked into my identity, I realized I didn't care what someone identified as. If I loved someone, it was because of their personality and the story they held within them. The more I did research on the different sexualities and identities, the more queer I realized I was, and for four years, from 8th grade to right before my senior year, I believed I was content with being genderfluid and pansexual. Being queer, though, comes with the downfall of feeling as though you don't quite fit in. Personally, I didn't care if I fit in, since I had been an outcast all of my life. Others, however, felt very different from me. Some people felt like they just had to fit in, so I wanted to be there to help them feel like they had a place in the world, too. I had spent so long helping others get out of their personal darkness, that I hadn't realized I had sunk further Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. My Favourite Book My Favourite Book It's hard to imagine our lives without books. We learn a lot of interesting things when we read books. Books are our great friend, teachers and advisers. They teach us how to take the next step when we are in a difficult situation. They help to shape our life. It is impossible to become an educated person without books. Besides, books play an important role in upbringing our feelings, views and tastes; give us a lot of useful information. Frankly speaking I'm not a bookworm but when I have spare time I read books with great pleasure. It seems to me that books are a source of emotional inspiration and romantic feelings, it's a miracle in some way, because an author provides a story and a reader can conjure the characters...show more content... Books are worth reading. Really, they are our good friends. My favourite book Most teenagers have different opinions on reading. As for me, I think reading is very important, because books help to discover new things, to learn more about life. Also books tell us about lives of famous people and other interesting things. The book I`m reading now is "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer. Stephanie Meyer is a modern American writer. She was born in 1973 in Hartford, Connecticut. She grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, along with two sisters and three brothers. "Twilight" is a novel about vampires, written by Stephanie Meyer. The main characters of the novel are a vampire and the girl dreamed author in a dream... It is a Vampire novel, the first edition of which only in the United States broke up a record run of 100 000 copies! The book, which became a cult for youth not only in English–speaking countries, but in France, Spain, Scandinavia, Japan and China. The plot of this book has described on how Bella Swan moves from sunny Phoenix to rainy Forks, Washington, to his father, Charlie. On the first day of the new school Bella sees a strange, very beautiful family Cullen. Bella is very interested in this family, especially in Edward. At the first lesson at Biology, plant for one party with Edward. Bell struck by the fact that he looks at her with an incomprehensible hatred. As soon as the bell rings, he runs out of the class, and the next few days does not appear in the school. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Reading And Writing : My Favorite Skills Over the years that I have been in school, reading and writing have not been my favorite skills. Although recently I have become a very good reader and a much better writer than I was before. There are certain branches of writing that I excel at, like argumentative or persuasive, which I enjoy because I love telling people that they're wrong and explaining why they should do things. However, I'm not as great at say, coming up with a story in which I have to make up characters and a plot. In reading, I try to get and read books that I'm interested in, but when they are boring books and topics or stories that don't interest me, I struggle to find a drive to read whatever it is. One thing that I take pride of in my writing is my vast vocabulary, but it wasn't always like that. Previously in elementary school, I wrote run on sentences which would sometimes get to 30 words with no commas. But obviously that changed as I proceeded into middle school, and one of the main reasons of that was Mrs.Schwerin's class. In her class was really when I understood sentence structure, the use of commas, and when certain marks are appropriate or not. Another thing that makes my writing better is my organization. I always have different topics in their own paragraphs and rarely will they leak into each other. Also, if i'm making a narrative, the story will progress nicely and have good momentum. Those parts of my writing are good assets, but like everyone I do have my weaknesses. The first Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. My Favorite Class Essay My favorite classes this year were Mrs. Menzel's two english classes. I have learned so much about myself as a reader, student, and an intellectual. Through both of her classes, we were given endless amounts of opportunity. What I mean by this is, we got to choose our own topics to study, books to read, and subjects to write about. We were truly treated like adults, which in my eyes, helped prepare us for the "real world". Her willingness to let us grow as individuals was very inspiring, because she believed that we could do it on our own, with a little push whenever we needed it. I have gotten the chance to discover that I actually enjoy reading! Specifically, I discovered that Jodi Picoult might be my favorite author as of now. Also, I realized that writing is one of my favorite things to do, it is a passion of mine and I hope I can continue it somehow with the career that I choose. Personally, her two classes have helped me grow as a speaker, writer, and reader. In her CCC class, I was able to write a profile on my dad, which really strengthened my relationship with him. After printing him a copy, and seeing tears in his eyes made me very grateful for this experience to share with him how much of a role model he is to me. In her English Lit class, I was able to ask my grandma and mom what books they would recommend for me. Having these conversations with them made their hearts warm, since I was showing interest in books for once (they are both book lovers). Her class pushed me to be the best that I can, and it wasn't for the grade that I got. It was for learning about myself, and what I was capable of. That's when I learned that her classes are actually changing me as a student. For an example, when I was working on a project, I wasn't basing every single sentence on what the rubric told me to do. I was branching out and working on it because I truly wanted to learn more about the topic and put my all into it. Thankfully, I have matured a great amount as a student because of Mrs. Menzel and her life lessons through teaching, and by just being herself. I truly feel ready for college now because of Mrs. Menzel, and I am grateful for that. This year, I changed my intended major from Business to Education, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Personal Narrative : My Favorite Childhood Memory My Favorite Childhood Memory Have you ever wondered what it is like being home alone, all by yourself and can't go anywhere? In my story I am about to tell you there is a moral/lesson that I had learned throughout this experience. It was when i was about 7 years old during this time, and this was a long time ago at my old house which is by the lake in Cedar Lake. The lesson that i learn in this experience is that you should never keep doing something you know you should not do, or else you will be consequences. First of all, when i was only about 7 years old at my house house, by a lake, I was known for being a troublemaker.During this time, I always did mostly anything that got me in trouble, so one day it all started n June 5th, 2001, on this day was my first day of running away from home.My parents were apparently worried sick wondering where I was, and this is when i thought that this was funny, by running away. So, a few hours or so went on and my parents were still looking for me,right then, I heard sirens coming from down the road where my secret hide–out was where no one else knew where it was, only me.Anyway, they were getting closer and closer to me, I didn't know what to do so I ran outta my hide–out straight back home where my parents were waiting.I got in trouble that time and then I thought, I wonder how it would be like to run away again? Soon after that day, the next day after the next I ran away day after day thinking it was funnier each time, but the I got Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. My Favorite Myth "a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a people or explaining some natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings or events." A myth is a story that can be a fictional story or a real event, depending on who you ask. For example, you could ask a non religious man about the myth of "Zeus" and he might say that an event like that could never happen. Then, you could ask a religious man about it and he might say that it really did happen. No one knows, this is because myths are usually based on old times. This means that no one can prove or debunk these myths properly. With that being said, I will now talk about one of my favorite myths, and one of the most popular;.King Midas and the golden touch. Midas was a king who had everything. He had a wife, children, and was extremely rich. He was very greedy too. He would cover his body in gold and bathe in it. Gold made him happier than anything else he had. One day, Dionysus,...show more content... He loved his money more than he loves his friends and family. He only thought of gold and how to get more of it. This is sickening and he deserved the punishment that he got. This myth also shows not to take things for granted and to love your family more than anything else. Even though it was not as severe as in other stories, it was necessary. Not much is known about the origin of this myth. Most myths don't have a clear origin. However, Research can tell you that King Midas lived in the prosperous city of Gordion, a site in what is now central Turkey, circa 750–700 BCE, ruling Phrygia and influencing the neighboring kingdoms. He likely reigned during the time in which Homer's Iliad was first written down. That concludes King Midas' story. King Midas was a greedy man who did not realize that the greatest gift he had was his family. That almost doomed him if it weren't for his change of heart thanks to his Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. My Favorite Story Moment I'm pretty lucky, my favorite story moment happens immediately. The story starts with a child Oliver and a woman in her early 30s Emmeline I think they are the most important characters to the story, because their actions set up why the story is happing, and why it is episodic. The fear felt by first Emmeline and then by Oliver helps reinforce the horror the show has and will convey. The aesthetic choices were the dark stage which sets up the horror theme of the performance. The gothic clothing, which brings a specific period of time to mind, Victorian I think. And the sounds such as the chorus announcing the "curse", the heavy beats and lighting in the background, which also helps set the horror feel of the performance. This performance reinforces the idea that you do not need much to have a powerful performance. There were two people, a box, and door. This important scene did not need a ton of props, a lot of space, or a full cast, just us the audience and them the performers. The way the actors spoke, their accents help me to be transported to the scene. The space between the box and the exit is also important to me. All it took to avoid the "curse" was a few steps. I think the thing that made this story work was the passion, excitement and cohesion of the troop. The entire story 4 different "episodes happen in the same space with nothing but minimal pros to transport us the audience to this world. I think one way to make the performance more effective would have been Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. My Favorite Story Out of all the short stories read in class, my favorite was "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" Joyce Carol Oates's story was my favorite because of her terrifying antagonist Arnold Friend. The way that Arnold Friend convinces Connie to get into his car even though she knows she will be putting her life in severe danger is chilling. I also really appreciated that Oates allows the audience to form their own opinions on the plot of the story. For example, "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" is told in a way that allows the readers to come to their own conclusions regarding whether Arnold Friend was really the Devill in disguise or if the whole story was just Connie dreaming. I also really enjoyed Arthur Conan Doyle's "A Scandal in Bohemia." Doyle's story was one of my favorites because of the characters Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler. As I am a huge fan of the show Sherlock aired on British Broadcasting Network, I had already grown fond of these two complex characters and looked forward to reading about them in Doyle's original story. Even though the plot of the short story was less complex and more condensed than BBC's remake, it was still just as enjoyable. I especially enjoyed that Sherlock had a more negative view towards women so Irene Adler's beating him was even better. My third favorite story was Agatha Christie's "The Witness for the Prosecution" because of its classic Christie plot twist at the end. I have always been a fan of Agatha Christie ever Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. My Favorite Quote Analysis My favorite quote will always be by Sappho in which she says, "Someone, I tell you, in another time will remember us." She was right. She's remembered for being a gay poet and is immortalized despite a lot of her works not being found completely. It's one of my favorite quotes because identifying as a nonbinary queer person who also likes girls, I can relate to Sappho a lot when she writes about her desire for love and personal heartbreaks. This quote also brings me ease as even in "another time" someone will still remember me. I think we all want to leave a legacy of some sort, and for me I want my legacy to be centered around my experience and accomplishments as an American born Punjabi artist and social activist, who was also highly active in the LGBTQ+ community. I want someone to remember me because it is a vicious cycle that people of color and members of the color in the LGBTQ+ community get forgotten in history. History is white– washed. But the idea that I will do enough in my life to be remembered in some shape or form, reminds me that my efforts and failures as a Punjabi artist and social activist are just part of a legacy I am starting. Moving on, my strength and determination did not magically appear one day. I had a lot of amazing people who are a part of my support network who helped show me what healthy self love and growth is supposed to be. One of the people I will be highlighting is my AP English teacher. Candice Ligator, was one of the best, and one of my favorite teachers in my high school career. She was a big part of my support system when it came to being a trans and queer student who had a lot of family issues. She was also a big inspiration to me as she told us stories full of struggles growing as a teacher. She talked about how starting off as a teacher at first made her cry every night, showing me that it takes persistence to be adept in a profession. Her choices on the pieces of literature she taught were engaging as they touched upon feminism, gay rights, and race. This allowed me to explore both my interest in writing and in social justice. Reading about personal experiences from Mary Shelley, Oscar Wilde, and Ralph Ellison was inspiring as it allowed me to see that I can Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. The Hobbit : My Favorite Story As a kid, my parents weren't really around, so my sister and I were raised by twenty five different nannies over the course of fifteen years. Because of this, I grew up hearing a wide variety of bedtime stories ranging from bible stories, to nursery rhymes, to hymns completely in Italian, to the adventures of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. The Hobbit was always my favorite story. I loved it because J.R.R. Tolkien always knew how to give any situation a sort of thrilling peril. I always imagined being on Bilbo's Unexpected Journey with him. As a five year old, I wanted to fight Smaug, save Thorin, and maybe get a little gold in the process. (This thought process still holds true to this day) Then, when I was in elementary school, I started ...show more content... Because as soon as I do have a moment's peace, I'm expected be keeping up with other people's lives too through social media. That being said, when I do get a chance to read as a school assignment, I do generally like the books. My favorite book that I've read at school so far has been "1984". I liked that book because my sophomore english teacher, Mrs. Powell, explained it really well, and the book in general really made me think about my values as a person, and what it means to be a person. I usually buy all my books so that I can add them to my bookshelf at home once I'm done with them. Another problem that I have encountered in my high school book reading career, is that I tend to get bored with books now. For instance, I will start reading a book for "fun", but then I'll get about half way through it, and then I'll set it down. Then, once I set it down, I usually won't pick it back up for another six months! For Example, I borrowed a book called, "Eragon" from my friend Gavin. For about a week I was really into the book, mostly because it was a fantasy novel about magic and dragons. But then, I looked at the page count, and I still had one thousand pages left in the book! AND THEN AFTER THAT I HAD SEVEN OTHER BOOKS AFTER THAT! ALL WITH ONE THOUSAND PAGES EACH. So, being a freshman who was completely overwhelmed, I put down the book. Then... I didn't give Gavin his book back until 2 years later, once I finally finished the book. This habit of mine has Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. A Story That Changed My Life Out of 7 billion people, today I'm going to tell you my story. Everyone has a different story. Everyone has been through something that has changed that person. Same thing happened to me. Let me start my story from the beginning. I was born in a small town waling. I was brought up to Kathmandu when I was two years old for the better lifestyle. My life was like any other people. I had two siblings. We were like a happy family. My life was normal and I had a lot of fun with my friends, cousins, and family. When I was in 2nd grade my dad moved to United State, which was really sad moments for everyone because he was going far away from everyone in a new place. Everyone cried and so did I. I was really emotional person back then so I couldn't control my tears. I was a kid back then so I did a lot of stupid stuff, whenever I think about that, it brings all my memories back. My life was like any other day. Since my dad was in United State, I knew one day my whole family is going to move to United State. One day, my mom told me in four months, we gonna move to United State. I was really happy about it but at the same time, I didn't want to move. I was telling my mom, what If I move after Slc and of course, she didn't listen. But I was ok. I dreamed about so many stuff, like what I am gonna do, how's the lifestyle is gonna be there. One thing I was really happy about it was that I was gonna leave my school because I didn't like my school. Teachers were cruel and strict but now when Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Personal Narrative : My Favorite Vacation Trying to find memories is like looking for treasure. You look at the surface and see something mediocre, but you dig deep and find something cool, pretty, and meaningful. It took a while to think of a fond memory, but once I thought of some, it was hard to choose a favorite. Growing up I have had many great experiences in the form of vacations. Between going to Disney World, owning a vacation home, hanging out with my grandparents in Arizona, traveling to Canada and more. They all make amazing memories that I will forever cherish. The vacation spot we go to the most, though, is Wisconsin Dells. A few times I have been allowed to invite friends to come with. When I am allowed to bring friends, it is always a ginormous amount of fun. We goof off in thehotel room, play in the arcades, and swim in the water parks. My favorite vacation, so far, is one I went on in September 2015 with my friends Alissa and Jaidah. We all share fandom interests. On the weekend of September 19, my brother went away to spend his birthday with my dad. My mom shook me awake and informed me I could bring two friends along to a room in the Dells that we would be occupying. Almost immediately I thought of the duo. I ran downstairs and texted both of them while packing a bag. They texted back not too long after, and I told them my mom and I would pick them up anywhere from 10–11 that Saturday morning. We picked up Alissa and she tried to direct us to Jaidah's house, but she wasn't thorough with her Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. My Favorite Teacher in History In my school there are many teachers. Each one teaches us different subjects. Although all of them are fairly good, there is one teacher whom I love and admire the most. Her name is Mrs. Grace Gilo. There are some teachers, who hardly ever make an impact on, or touch someone's life for the better. Some just go through life teaching. But there are some that change a person's life, for the better. She was the kind of person that everyone loved. She never asked too much, or expected too much. She is the most pleasing personality that I have ever come across. She is an ideal teacher. She has all those qualities which a good teacher is expected to have. A history teacher, a role model and now OIC at Mariano Marcos Memorial High School. Mrs....show more content... I feel lucky for having had such an unforgettable high school life and thankful for the people that were a part of it. Mrs. Gilo has always been more than an educator to me. • 19. My Favorite Statement Analysis My favourite statement you made was in reference to shared roles and responsibilities. It's important to work as a team. .This is a tricky scenario because all EAs have experience and knowledge to drawn on. Communicating like you said so the teacher can hear his theory and an open discussion can hopefully occur. I'm not sure how a supervising teacher would respond to being given a report containing professional resources to back up his theory. It may be interpreted too strongly as trying to prove the teacher wrong. The A.T.A states teachers have a right to have their professional expertise recognized (Rights and Responsibilities, p.9) This could all depend on how well you know your teacher and what type of relationship has been built.
