Persuasive Speech On Smoking
We all know what smoking is, and we all know that smoking cigarettes is dangerous for everyone and reduces your life expectancy. But did you
know that tobacco use is the leading cause of avoidable sickness and death in New Zealand? Together, smoking can hurt everyone who is introduced
to it, from babies to children, teenagers to adults, and even the elderly. Today I will convince YOU why you shouldn't smoke. I will also make you
more aware of the many negative affects it can have on you and the people around you. That is why I will be covering three main ideas which include
of: the many health problems that are caused because of smoking and why they can be permanent, smoking cause your appearance to alter and lastly
why it is not cost effective. So do you want your appearance, body and wallet to change?
Many health problems are caused because of smoking a can potentially be permanent. As you may know, cancer can be formed from frequent smoking.
Getting a cold, cough, wheezing and asthma are just the start of getting lung cancer as there are over 70 complimenting chemicals that cause this. Tar
is one of the many chemicals in tobacco. No, not the tar that you find on the road to seal up the stones! The one that contains 15 milligrams or more in
one cigarette. This weight is equivalent to having 15 paperclips. I know it doesn't seem like anything, but after smoking multiple packets a week,
but you can really notice the change in your health. And no, I DO NOT know this from personal experience. The tar that is used in tobacco, is there
to numb the wind pipe in the lungs; so when smoked no coughing is done as it is a natural reflex to cough when inhaling smoke. So basically, tar
contributes to lung cancer majorly. Did you know that ONE cigarette contains over 4,000 chemicals? This is without the other 400 added toxins as
well as the 70 cancer chemicals. Smoking damages the lining of your arteries, which leads up to a build of fatty material that narrows the artery.
Therefore, smoking clearly makes the risk of heart attacks and strokes higher. One puff travels around the body and into the brain within 10 seconds
and can quickly damage the health of YOUR body. Tobacco widens the amount of health problems that one

Millions of people die each year because of secondhand smoke and smoking. There is nothing good to say about cigarettes and drugs. It has become a
really big problem and it needs to stop it. But here's the question can we stop it? Cigarettes are just plain out horrible, they contain nicotine which is a
very addictive stimulant that makes you want to keep smoking. Smoking can also lead to lung cancer and many more consequences, there is more than
650,000 people who die each year because of the consequences of smoking. Therefore smoking is bad for your health and should be banned.
Smoking has many major horrible effects on lives that you can't take back. For example 16 million americans are living with diseased caused by
smoking. Every person who dies because of smoking, 30 people are living with a smoking illness. Smoking can also lead to lung cancer, cancer, eye
disease, problems with the immune system, and much more. Smoking is the leading cause for preventable death. Tobacco users cause a average of 6
million deaths a year, and by 2030 will cause 8 million. Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths in the United States, and 41,000
deaths resulting secondhand smoke. 1,300 deaths everyday are caused by smoking. Each day more than 3,200 18 year olds or younger are trying their
first cigarette. (Smoking and tobacco)
Not only is smoking bad, but it can also lead to illegal drugs which leads to even worse consequences. A new study shows that cigarette smoking
can be a gateway to illegal drugs. The study found that people who smoked are 7 times more likely to try marijuana, and cocaine. Also smokers are
14 times more likely to try crack, and 16 more times likely to try heroin. The evidence also had age groups that tells what age are people most
likely to try illegal drugs after smoking, and the evidence came out with that people ages up 12 to 15 who smoked cigarettes are 44 more times
likely to use crack. Teens ages 15 who smoked cigarettes are up to 80 times likely to use illegal drugs than kids who don't smoke. The most likely
drug that young smokers would move onto is cocaine. The number of high schoolers that smoke is going up, and the number of high schoolers that use
cocaine is going up

Persuasive Essay : The Dangers Of Smoking
You've all probably seen a cigarette before. You've probably even smelled cigarette smoke before. But do you know all the dangers that come with it?
Some of you may know a few of the dangers, such as smoking being able to cause lung cancer, but is that all you know? About 400,000 people die
every year because of the tobacco in a cigarette. Even though cigarettes are small and have a small amount of tobacco, it is still very deadly. About
65,000 of those 400,000 people die from obstructive lung cancer. About 45 people die every hour! Imagine how many people die every day. And if you
do decide to smoke, just know that you typically lose 7 years of your life. You could live 7 years longer if you don't smoke. I know 7 years doesn't
seem like a lot, but right now, 7 years is about half of mine and many other children's lives. So tell me, do you think smoking is a good idea? For
instance, if you see someone smoking, steer clear of them. Smoking isn't only dangerous for the smoker, it also effects anyone around them. This
is also a thing called second hand smoke. Can you believe that every year around 9000 people die from just breathing in cigarette smoke? Not even
pets are safe. Many animals tend to have skin and chest complaints. Another reason to stay away is because only 15% of the cigarette smoke is
taken in by the smoker, and the rest of the smoke is released into the air. If your parents smoke regularly, imagine how much smoke you intake.
Knowing that second hand smoke can be very dangerous, imagine what is going on in your body right now. Your lungs could be starting to get
damaged, or maybe the smoke is affecting other parts if your body such as the heart. Those who happen to have smoking parents and are around
cigarette smoke daily are 10% to 30% more likely to get lung cancer than other children who aren't around smoke daily. Second hand smoke is
another one of the many reasons to not smoke. Besides, you probably knew that when you smoke you tend to smell bad, but there's plenty of other
reasons why it's so unattractive. Your skin tends to turn pale because when you smoke, your blood cells are being restricted. Just think of what it
would feel like to try and get tan in the summer, and not being able

Smoking kills. Smoking can cause cancer and other bad diseases. Also, companies have made cigarettes in different flavors which are worse than
regular cigarettes. People who smoke can be addicted. If you try to stop smoking cold turkey, it will give you headaches and stomachaches. I wanted
to research this topic because I have some really close friends and they have family that smoke. Their greatā€“grandpa died from smoking. Also, I noticed
a lot of people are dying because they made the bad decision to smoke. Some people started to smoke when they were teenagers. They got addicted
to it, and now they can't stop smoking. I wanted to try to find a way people who smoke can stop. How can countries solve and stop smoking? This
problem can be solved and it will be solved because countries are starting to ban smoking from certain places.
People that smoke are the people that get all the unhealthy stuff in a body like cancer and many diseases that can be caused."If smoking persists at the
current rate among young adults in this country, 5.6 million of today's Americans younger than 18 years of age are projected to die prematurely from a
smokingā€“related illness. Another 100,000 were babies who died of sudden infant death syndrome (often referred to as SIDS) or complications from
prematurity, low birth weight, or other conditions caused by parental smoking, particularly smoking by the mother. "Smoking has been around for a
long time. The problem with smoking became worse when "production climbed markedly when another cigaretteā€“making machine was developed in
the 1880s by James Albert Bonsack, which vastly increased the productivity of cigarette companies, which went from making about 40,000 handā€“rolled
cigarettes daily to around 4 million." Smoking is a problem around the world because it causes lung cancer, many other cancers, and some horrible
diseases. This problem should be solved because "More than 10 times as many U.S. citizens have died prematurely from cigarette smoking than have
died in all the wars fought by the United States during its history."
According to SIR'S article "Adolescent Cigarette Smoking

Cigarette smoking is one of the biggest habits in the world at present. More than 16 million people already have at least one disease from smoking.
(CDC,2015) Cigarette smoking is estimated to lead to 4.9 premature deaths per year, with this number predicted to rise to a shocking 10 million by
2020. (Novartis Foundation,2009) Cigarette smoking is a detrimental habit which leads to Cancer, heart disease and COPD. (Novartis Foundation,2009)
I believe in order to improve the health of citizens and increase the population, cigarette smoking should be banned. Cigarettes, exā€“smokers, and
lifeā€“long nonā€“smokers are often compared. (Novartis Foundation,2009) The findings show that the mortality of continuing (Novartis Foundation,2009)

The CDC has started an antiā€“smoking campaign. (CDC,2015) This campaign shares antiā€“smoking stories. One of the stories was a woman named
Annette(CDC,2015) who after deciding to quit smoking found out she already had lung cancer(CDC,2015), Annette consequently had one lung

Although smoking is seen as a right of freedom, it has numerous consequences that not only damage smokers. According to David M. Ludington,
"Cigarette smoke is the most dangerous of the toxic elements in our environment. Smoking is responsible for almost 500 000 deaths each year in the
United States" (1). For the reason that many citizens are not well informed with the effects of smoking, the United States has a high death rate per year.
The act of smoking in public should be banned, for it can influence any uninformed individuals to acquire the habit of smoking, which leads to future
health risks. Smoking imposes hazardous health problems to anyone nearby, and inclusively contributes to various environmental and social problems.
Smoking can cause imminent health issues to all who choose to smoke. Lung cancer, asthma, heart attacks, and lung diseases are some of the results
from smoking. Many do not take this in account of when attracted to smoking. For this reason, it is unethical for authorities to not fully illegalize
smoking in public. Individuals have the freedom to smoke, yet the government must oversee the whole impact to the communities. People of all ages
are vulnerable to what their naked eye perceives. If and when innocents desire to smoke, they would have now exposed themselves to a path of health
risks. This course of action is proven to repeat throughout generations as it has been since American Indians first introduced tobacco to the European
settlers. It is

Persuasive Essay On Teenage Smoking
What is smoking? Smoking is an unhealthy act in which a substance is burned and the resulting smoke to be breathed in and absorbed into the
bloodstream. Smoking is an addiction that can be extremely difficult to break. It can cause many major negative effects on a persons life in a short
amount of time. Smoking is a harmful and financially reckless addiction that should be prevented at all costs, especially in young teenagers. Cigarettes
are made from a variety of harmful substances. For starters, there are over 4000 chemicals in one single cigarette. Nicotine, Carbon Monoxide, and
Arsenic are only three of the many poisonous structures within a single cigarette. These few things alone can already cause such damage. A
question someone might ask would be: "If smoking is so harmful, why would someone pick up their first cigarette in the first place?" Smoking is a
big deal this time of age. Teenagers describe smoking as something cool and fun to do. People see everyone around them smoking, making it seem
like smoking is okay. Sometimes seeing a parent or a role model smoke can make it seem okay as well. Other times the person may not want to
smoke but feel pressured into it because of peer pressure; this happens to be more common with teenagers. A few teenagers smoke for the attention of
it. Others smoke because of their curiosity on what its like to smoke. Many people smoke because they are stressed or nervous; this is mostly common
with adults. Lastly, a simple reason

still chose to do it. Smoking is a force of habit, it is a choice a person makes either to participate or not but it becomes outrageously addictive. The
person choosing to smoke may not realize that they are not just harming themselves but they are also harming the ones surrounded by them. It has a
negative effect on the people around the smoker because when the nicotine gets in the air it becomes hard to breathe and it travels amongst people faster

If a woman who is expecting a child is smoking or who has a young child, that child will be in danger of asthma attacks, respiratory infections, and
even infant death syndrome. "Regulations have been laid in the UK parliament which will lead to making smoking in cars carrying children illegal
in England," Secondhand smoke also affects adults, it can result in lung cancer or cardiovascular diseases. A ban on smoking would protect the
public from passive smoking. If smoking in public was banned it would promote healthier lifestyles for everyone. Although the smoker is the one
choosing to put those harmful chemicals into their body, if a child lives in the house with that person it can become very dangerous for that child. He
or she will be more prone to asthma attacks and their immune system will even become weaker. Therefore if smoking was banned, it would promote
healthier lifestyles for everyone. Some communities have already put a ban on smoking in public areas. In 2005 Washington State made it illegal to
smoke in public and they have to come to the agreement that it has helped their community by taking this action. "The law is meant to protect both the
public and employees from exposure to secondhand smoke." Generally when a person is smoking outside a store or restaurant once they finish their

Eā€“cigarettes are Better for Smokers than Regular Ones
Smoking tobacco is probably one of the worst habits humankind has developed. Originating as a tradition of the Native Americans, practiced mostly
on special occasions, smoking has gradually become a kind of mass addiction. Due to the efforts of tobacco companies seeking to increase their sales,
people started smoking more and more often; the evolution of a more traditional pipe to a cigarette took some time, but eventually tobacco became
more affordable and easier to use (you now simply need to light it up, instead of having to always carry a tobacco pouch, stuff a pipe, puff it, and so
on). As a result, deaths and health issues connected to tobacco consumption became a worldwide...show more content...
The key difference between traditional cigarettes and eā€“cigarettes is that eā€“cigarettes don't contain tobacco. But, it isn't just the tobacco in cigarettes
that causes cancer. Traditional cigarettes contain a laundry list of chemicals that are proven harmful, and eā€“cigarettes have some of these same
chemicals but lesser than than regular tobacco. Electronic cigarettes, or eā€“cigarettes, are being marketed as the "safe" new alternative to conventional
cigarettes.
For years environmentalists have been pressuring cigarette makers to cut back on synthetic chemicals in their products, to reduce their harm to both
smokers and nonā€“smokers. Regulators have been worried about second hand smoke for years, and have been passing indoor smoking bans state by
state. Today you can go to work, shop, or go out to eat in many places without being inundated with toxic haze from smokers. However, there is still a
problem with cigarette butts left behind by smokers. We all see this litter on our sidewalks, roads, and parking lots, often just feet from a trash bin.
Unfortunately, many smokers still toss their spent cigarettes out their cars. Although it is also a controversial product, electronic cigarettes, or
eā€“cigarettes, could help reduce this toxic burden. The devices use a small amount of power to vaporize nicotine, which is then inhaled. Some are
marketed as entirely nicotine free, and many have flavorings added. Many are

In the US alone nearly 258 billion cigarettes were sold in 2016. While advertizing that cigarettes are hazardous to your health, smoking has only
gone down about 10% since 1997. Tobacco is a drug and it should be treated like one. If a doctor has not prescribed it, it should be considered drug
abuse and illegal. Like many other drugs, smoking hurts the user. However, smoking is not only hurting the user, it is also hurting the people around
them. In addition to banning tobacco, the entire production of it should be banned as well. When a smoker is smoking there are often people around.
Even if the smoker is using a smoking designated area nearby people are still getting the effects of the smoke. Smoking designated areas only protect
nearby people, at best, from around 50% of the tobacco smoke. That is considering every smoker is using a designated smoking area. The Lancet
states that, "Worldwide, 40% of children, 33% of male nonā€“smokers, and 35% of female nonā€“smokers were exposed to secondā€“hand smoke in 2004."
Environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) kills up to 53,000 nonsmokers a year. ETS is the third leading preventable cause of death in the US. When
exposed to tobacco smoke, children are at more of a risk. Compared to adults, children are more likely to develop ear infections, respiratory problems
such as coughing and wheezing, and other respiratory diseases such as asthma. Tobacco smoke is also connected to sudden infant death syndrome.
Sudden infant death syndrome is the unexpected death of a child that is under the age of one. To make matters worse second hand smoke plays a
major role in low birth weight in infants. If a mother or father has been exposed to secondhand smoke it can impair fertility. So not only is tobacco
smoke hurting kids as they grow up, but it also hinders them from the moment they are born.
In the article "Dangers of Secondhand Smoke" by Elizabeth Smoots she states that " Within 30 minutes after exposure to ETS, the coronary arteries of
nonsmokers function as poorly as those of regular smokers." This means that smokers are making other people smoke, without even having a cigarette
in their own hand. Even with little exposure the effects of secondhand smoke are about 80% to 90% as

We all know what we want, we want a society that disapproves of smoking, a society that says no to smoking, a nonā€“smoking society where people
live a full life and don't die from the brutality of smoking.
It goes without saying that I know what we want: we want a blue sky, the gorgeous sun beaming upon usā€“not a sky full of that wretched, foul,
cancerā€“causing smoke that we inhale into our angelic bodies, don't you? As one we can work together to stop this madness, to stop this appalling,
problematic soulā€“wrenching substance.
I want the country of Russia, a place engulfed in the sweltering smoke, inundated in red hot flames to be free from it! The country of Greece, a place
buried with smoke to be free from its curse! Two of the many countries where people smoke the most.
Smoking is a detrimental habit that should be stopped, this satanic substance that causes so much harm to our bodies. It can cause over 14 different
types of cancer, it can reduce your athletic performance, diagnose you with pneumonia and many, many more. In England alone over 15% of the adult
population smoke this minacious substance, that's 15% of the England's population that have a risk of getting the variety of diseases, you don't want
that to happen...do you? Well, I don't!
Many people say that it is unfavourable, many say that it is pleasurable. Well, I say that it is horrendousā€“ smoking should be illegal! Surely, the amount
of harm it does to the smoker's body and the people around him or her is too great to be unnoticed. It is vital to do this because smoking kills over
430,000 people in the United States alone each year and costs them thousands of dollars in health care for smoking related medical issues. Although
health care for smokers also costs the government millions, they refuse to ban the easily addictive drug from hands of civilians. This is because of the
profits that tobacco production and sales, a disgrace to us, make for the economy each year. This is inexcusable because it is putting the importance of
money and the stimulation of the economy before citizens' health and lives. Think about the children, you don't want a society where your little boy
grows up to be an addict just because of the influence caused by you! You!

This fear causes many to not to smoke or if they are smokers give up smoking. While others even after seeing the dramatic advertisements don't stop
for many reasons including addiction. Why does fear in advertisement work for some and not others? I don't think researchers really know, it has a
lot to do with how one is raised and the life experiences each person has had. In 2014 the CDC ran its third consecutive year federally funded
antiā€“smoking ad campaign called "Tips From Former Smokers (Tips)". This time it broke up the advertisement campaign into 2 phases, with phase 1
running advertisements from its 2012 and 2013 campaigns and phase 2 featuring completely new advertisement's. An estimated 1.8 million smokers
attempted to quit smoking because of the 2014 ad campaigns.
Most people are divided when it comes to antiā€“smoking advertisements. Some believe they will quit when they are ready and not be pressured by
guilt into quitting, while others believe the advertisement does not apply to them. I know firsthand, my father felt this way, he was born in 1939, he
began smoking at an early age. In the nineteen forties and fifties there were not many studies linking cancer or other illnesses to tobacco use. Smoking
cigarettes was the thing to do, tobacco advertisements on television and magazines was the norm. When I was six years old my father was diagnosed
with lung cancer, and eventually it spread to his heart and brain.

Why One Should Stop Smoking
Smoking is a huge problem in today's society. Many people don't understand the consequences that come with smoking. Cigarettes and marijuana are
very common uses of smoking. As a college student I am able to the effects these two drugs have on students mental and physical abilities. People
shouldn't smoke because not only does smoking affect your everyday way of live but they may also kill you. People who become addicted to these
certain substances know the risks but don't care because they are mentally attached to the drugs that destroy their body. Marijuana affects the brain the
most while tobacco affects organs in your body. According to the article "Weed Smoke VS.Cigarette Smoke: Which is worse?" By Delilah Butterfield
"When it comes to the of smoking, research suggests that tobacco is far more harmful to the lungs than cannabis. Both marijuana and tobacco increase
the chances of lung cancer. "People who are under 55 had an increased chance increased chance in forming a type of lung cancer" (Morris). If are
diagnosed with asthma then these two substances can make your breathing problem 90% worse than what it was. Most smokers don't even know what
they are smoking in reality. Tobacco and marijuana are made to calm the nerves of the human body (They are downers) but, they also are made of
multiple poisonous and chemical substances. Tobacco contains chemicals like "Nicotine (the addictive drug that produces the effect that people are
looking for and one of harshest chemicals in tobacco smoke), Hydrogen cyanide, Lead, Arsenic, Ammonia, Radioactive elements, carbon monoxide,
etc." (3, The American Cancer Society) All of these elements put together form one of the deadliest products that is sold all over the world, called a
cigarette. Companies created Eā€“ Cigarettes claiming that they were less harmful to the body but these products also contain addictive nicotine that can
cause mental dependence on nicotine (The American Cancer Society). In the last paragraph we learned multiple chemicals that create tobacco but
marijuana also is made with dangerous chemicals. "Marijuana contains at least 60 chemicals called cannabinoids. Researchers

Smoking tobacco is known for being detrimental to a person's health. When you smoke a cigarette you are inhaling a toxic mix of chemicals including
formaldehyde, ammonia, arsenic and cyanide. Along with the inhaling of carcinogenic chemicals smokers also deal with nicotine addiction. Nicotine is
highly addictive and makes quitting very difficult for those who smoke. Many smokers continue to smoke knowing the harmful effects but, even worse,
some people willingly smoke while they are pregnant. Women who smoke during pregnancy create a very unhealthy environment for themselves and
their unborn child. Pregnant women who smoke should stop immediately to ensure the health of their child. Smoking while pregnant can lead to serious
health effects such as premature birth, birth defects and death. In the womb babies are extremely vulnerable to chemicals. The CDC states that "babies
have immature porous bloodā€“brain barriers that allow greater chemical vulnerability to the developing brain." Babies also have far less chemical
bonding proteins than that of an adult allowing chemicals to reach organs easier. Doctors even advise mothers to avoid pumping gas, painting, using
hair dye and painting their nails while pregnant do to the chemicals in those products in fear of harming the baby. Women who smoke while pregnant
subject their child to over 4,000 different chemicals of which 43 are known to be carcinogenic compounds. This mixture of toxic chemicals is
hazardous to both the mother and the child's health. Any mother who cares for her child's health should do whatever it takes to quit smoking in order
to birth a healthy baby. Losing a child is a parents worst nightmare. For many parents, it is unpreventable, but, for mothers who lose their child
because they smoked during pregnancy it is completely preventable. Smoking while pregnant increases the chances of a miscarriage and death. The
Georgia state of public health reviewed death records from infants who died from SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) and estimated "20.7% of cases
could be prevented if the mother had not smoked during pregnancy." They also estimated "61.3% of SIDS cases were results of smoking." The baby

One of the aspects that are argued is the freedom of choice. Freedom of choice mandates if a person wants to smoke they should be able to. While
the freedom of choice issue is debated and measures are taken to assist people in breaking their addiction to smoking there are strong reasons for
implementing a nationwide ban on smoking in bars and restaurants. Smokers want to be able to enjoy a cigarette following their meal or while they sip
their drinks. They have lobbied to stop bans around the country and threatened to boycott any business that voluntarily places a ban on smoking in their
establishment.
For a long time, the hospitality industry maintained that if nonsmokers didn't like smoke, then they shouldn't go into places that allowed it. Few buy
that argument any more. Nonsmokers want to go where they want and not have to suffer exposure to smoke as the price they pay. TheTobacco Industry

Smoking is the most preventable leading cause of death in the United States and causes many health risk such as lung cancer, and heart and blood
vessel complication. My main purpose of this persuasive speech is to convince people that smoking is harmful for themselves, the people around them
and their wallets. In 2015 and estimated of 36.5 million people were current smoker (Jamal, A., King, B. A., Neff, L. J., Whitmill, J., Babb, S. D., &
Graffunder, C. M., 2016). In addition smoking doesn't not only harm the direct smokers, but also the people around them from secondhand smoking.
According to the national cancer institute tobacco has 7000 chemical, of those 250 are known to be harmful, including hydrogen cyanide, carbon...show

Also, smoking causes more death combined than Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, and
firearmā€“related incidents (CDC, 2017). According to the national cancer institute tobacco has 7000 chemical, and 250 which are known to be harmful,
including hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide, and ammonia (2017). Among the 250 known harmful chemicals in tobacco smoke, at least 69 can
cause cancer. These cancerā€“causing chemicals include the following; arsenic was commonly used in rate poison and benzene is found in gasoline
(Martin, T., & Jelic, S. 2017). Smoking doesn't only harm the people that are directly smoking, but also the people around them. It's important that
smoker's realize that by smoking they are putting themselves and people around them at harm, like their children, wife, husbands, and other people. I
have a best friend that smokes cigarette, and he has been smoking since he was 18 years old. He knows that smoking is bad and that it causes cancer,
but doesn't know all of the other health risks that are associated with smoking. Smoking has short term and long term effect on our health. The purpose
of my speech today is to convince you that smoking is harmful to your body, and people around you also known as second hand smoking and your
wallet.
There are many health risk that are associated with smoking, cancer being one of the result of smoking. According to the American Cancer Society

The Adversities of Smoking.
Smoking and even second hand smoking can lead to fatal diseases such as, lung cancer, cancer of the larynx, esophagus, and bladder diseases. http:/
/www1.umn.edu/perio ltobacco/secondhandsmoke.html / smoking is hazardous enough to an individual's health and it's even more disturbing when
people are exposed to dangers caused by smoking. The tobacco company however, had thought false labeling would help the situation when all it has
done is worsen the case. The tobacco company had come with the idea of "light" cigarettes, which is just a way to think the cigarettes they are
smoking are "healthier". Second hand smokers are just as endangered as the actual smokers they are equally exposed to fatal diseases....show more

Justin Baer http://proquest.umi.com/pqdweb? We all know tobacco is bad for one's health, but it gets serious when these companies go as far as
overlooking the "labeling act of 1965" http://www.fda.gov/opacom/laws/fplact.html which asks that a warning sign is placed at the back of all
tobacco products. People's lives have been lost over these false labeling and the consumption and exposure of these drugs. They are everywhere, for
instance, people at public places such as the park and the bus stops are exposed to second hand smoking, which is very deadly. This is unfair because
people have every right not to be exposed something that should be illegal. Although the government has tried to resolve these issues by passing laws
such as the Clean Indoor Air act, and the labeling act, the intensity of these laws are not good enough, the state of Washington for instance has a law
against smoking in restaurants, which is a good thing, but majority of the smoking is done outside of restaurants.
Smoking around children is one very disturbing thing, but it's a reality, the government has tried to put a stop to it inadequately as usual and not in
all areas of this country. The state of Texas has a rule regarding smoking around foster kids, this probably would help, but how can you be sure. The
best way is to get rid of the tobacco company

Persuasive Speech On Smoking

  • 1. Persuasive Speech On Smoking We all know what smoking is, and we all know that smoking cigarettes is dangerous for everyone and reduces your life expectancy. But did you know that tobacco use is the leading cause of avoidable sickness and death in New Zealand? Together, smoking can hurt everyone who is introduced to it, from babies to children, teenagers to adults, and even the elderly. Today I will convince YOU why you shouldn't smoke. I will also make you more aware of the many negative affects it can have on you and the people around you. That is why I will be covering three main ideas which include of: the many health problems that are caused because of smoking and why they can be permanent, smoking cause your appearance to alter and lastly why it is not cost effective. Tar is one of the many chemicals in tobacco. No, not the tar that you find on the road to seal up the stones! The one that contains 15 milligrams or more in one cigarette. This weight is equivalent to having 15 paperclips. I know it doesn't seem like anything, but after smoking multiple packets a week, but you can really notice the change in your health. And no, I DO NOT know this from personal experience. The tar that is used in tobacco, is there to numb the wind pipe in the lungs; so when smoked no coughing is done as it is a natural reflex to cough when inhaling smoke. So basically, tar contributes to lung cancer majorly. Did you know that ONE cigarette contains over 4,000 chemicals? This is without the other 400 added toxins as well as the 70 cancer chemicals. Smoking damages the lining of your arteries, which leads up to a build of fatty material that narrows the artery. Therefore, smoking clearly makes the risk of heart attacks and strokes higher. One puff travels around the body and into the brain within 10 seconds and can quickly damage the health of YOUR body. Tobacco widens the amount of health problems that one Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Smoking Millions of people die each year because of secondhand smoke and smoking. There is nothing good to say about cigarettes and drugs. It has become a really big problem and it needs to stop it. But here's the question can we stop it? Cigarettes are just plain out horrible, they contain nicotine which is a very addictive stimulant that makes you want to keep smoking. Smoking can also lead to lung cancer and many more consequences, there is more than 650,000 people who die each year because of the consequences of smoking. Therefore smoking is bad for your health and should be banned. Smoking has many major horrible effects on lives that you can't take back. For example 16 million americans are living with diseased caused by smoking. Every person who dies because of smoking, 30 people are living with a smoking illness. Smoking can also lead to lung cancer, cancer, eye disease, problems with the immune system, and much more. Smoking is the leading cause for preventable death. Tobacco users cause a average of 6 million deaths a year, and by 2030 will cause 8 million. Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths in the United States, and 41,000 deaths resulting secondhand smoke. 1,300 deaths everyday are caused by smoking. Each day more than 3,200 18 year olds or younger are trying their first cigarette. (Smoking and tobacco) Not only is smoking bad, but it can also lead to illegal drugs which leads to even worse consequences. A new study shows that cigarette smoking can be a gateway to illegal drugs. The study found that people who smoked are 7 times more likely to try marijuana, and cocaine. Also smokers are 14 times more likely to try crack, and 16 more times likely to try heroin. The evidence also had age groups that tells what age are people most likely to try illegal drugs after smoking, and the evidence came out with that people ages up 12 to 15 who smoked cigarettes are 44 more times likely to use crack. Teens ages 15 who smoked cigarettes are up to 80 times likely to use illegal drugs than kids who don't smoke. The most likely drug that young smokers would move onto is cocaine. The number of high schoolers that smoke is going up, and the number of high schoolers that use cocaine is going up Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Persuasive Essay : The Dangers Of Smoking You've all probably seen a cigarette before. You've probably even smelled cigarette smoke before. But do you know all the dangers that come with it? Some of you may know a few of the dangers, such as smoking being able to cause lung cancer, but is that all you know? About 400,000 people die every year because of the tobacco in a cigarette. Even though cigarettes are small and have a small amount of tobacco, it is still very deadly. About 65,000 of those 400,000 people die from obstructive lung cancer. About 45 people die every hour! Imagine how many people die every day. And if you do decide to smoke, just know that you typically lose 7 years of your life. You could live 7 years longer if you don't smoke. I know 7 years doesn't seem like a lot, but right now, 7 years is about half of mine and many other children's lives. So tell me, do you think smoking is a good idea? For instance, if you see someone smoking, steer clear of them. Smoking isn't only dangerous for the smoker, it also effects anyone around them. This is also a thing called second hand smoke. Can you believe that every year around 9000 people die from just breathing in cigarette smoke? Not even pets are safe. Many animals tend to have skin and chest complaints. Another reason to stay away is because only 15% of the cigarette smoke is taken in by the smoker, and the rest of the smoke is released into the air. If your parents smoke regularly, imagine how much smoke you intake. Knowing that second hand smoke can be very dangerous, imagine what is going on in your body right now. Your lungs could be starting to get damaged, or maybe the smoke is affecting other parts if your body such as the heart. Those who happen to have smoking parents and are around cigarette smoke daily are 10% to 30% more likely to get lung cancer than other children who aren't around smoke daily. Second hand smoke is another one of the many reasons to not smoke. Besides, you probably knew that when you smoke you tend to smell bad, but there's plenty of other reasons why it's so unattractive. Your skin tends to turn pale because when you smoke, your blood cells are being restricted. Just think of what it would feel like to try and get tan in the summer, and not being able Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Smoking Smoking kills. Smoking can cause cancer and other bad diseases. Also, companies have made cigarettes in different flavors which are worse than regular cigarettes. People who smoke can be addicted. If you try to stop smoking cold turkey, it will give you headaches and stomachaches. I wanted to research this topic because I have some really close friends and they have family that smoke. Their greatā€“grandpa died from smoking. Also, I noticed a lot of people are dying because they made the bad decision to smoke. Some people started to smoke when they were teenagers. They got addicted to it, and now they can't stop smoking. I wanted to try to find a way people who smoke can stop. How can countries solve and stop smoking? This problem can be solved and it will be solved because countries are starting to ban smoking from certain places. People that smoke are the people that get all the unhealthy stuff in a body like cancer and many diseases that can be caused."If smoking persists at the current rate among young adults in this country, 5.6 million of today's Americans younger than 18 years of age are projected to die prematurely from a smokingā€“related illness. Another 100,000 were babies who died of sudden infant death syndrome (often referred to as SIDS) or complications from prematurity, low birth weight, or other conditions caused by parental smoking, particularly smoking by the mother. "Smoking has been around for a long time. The problem with smoking became worse when "production climbed markedly when another cigaretteā€“making machine was developed in the 1880s by James Albert Bonsack, which vastly increased the productivity of cigarette companies, which went from making about 40,000 handā€“rolled cigarettes daily to around 4 million." Smoking is a problem around the world because it causes lung cancer, many other cancers, and some horrible diseases. (CDC,2015) Cigarette smoking is estimated to lead to 4.9 premature deaths per year, with this number predicted to rise to a shocking 10 million by 2020. (Novartis Foundation,2009) Cigarette smoking is a detrimental habit which leads to Cancer, heart disease and COPD. (Novartis Foundation,2009) I believe in order to improve the health of citizens and increase the population, cigarette smoking should be banned. • 6. Smoking Persuasive Essay Although smoking is seen as a right of freedom, it has numerous consequences that not only damage smokers. According to David M. Ludington, "Cigarette smoke is the most dangerous of the toxic elements in our environment. Smoking is responsible for almost 500 000 deaths each year in the United States" (1). For the reason that many citizens are not well informed with the effects of smoking, the United States has a high death rate per year. The act of smoking in public should be banned, for it can influence any uninformed individuals to acquire the habit of smoking, which leads to future health risks. Smoking imposes hazardous health problems to anyone nearby, and inclusively contributes to various environmental and social problems. Smoking can cause imminent health issues to all who choose to smoke. Lung cancer, asthma, heart attacks, and lung diseases are some of the results from smoking. Many do not take this in account of when attracted to smoking. For this reason, it is unethical for authorities to not fully illegalize smoking in public. Individuals have the freedom to smoke, yet the government must oversee the whole impact to the communities. People of all ages are vulnerable to what their naked eye perceives. If and when innocents desire to smoke, they would have now exposed themselves to a path of health risks. This course of action is proven to repeat throughout generations as it has been since American Indians first introduced tobacco to the European settlers. It is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Persuasive Essay On Teenage Smoking What is smoking? Smoking is an unhealthy act in which a substance is burned and the resulting smoke to be breathed in and absorbed into the bloodstream. Smoking is an addiction that can be extremely difficult to break. It can cause many major negative effects on a persons life in a short amount of time. Smoking is a harmful and financially reckless addiction that should be prevented at all costs, especially in young teenagers. Cigarettes are made from a variety of harmful substances. For starters, there are over 4000 chemicals in one single cigarette. Nicotine, Carbon Monoxide, and Arsenic are only three of the many poisonous structures within a single cigarette. These few things alone can already cause such damage. A question someone might ask would be: "If smoking is so harmful, why would someone pick up their first cigarette in the first place?" Smoking is a big deal this time of age. Teenagers describe smoking as something cool and fun to do. People see everyone around them smoking, making it seem like smoking is okay. Sometimes seeing a parent or a role model smoke can make it seem okay as well. Other times the person may not want to smoke but feel pressured into it because of peer pressure; this happens to be more common with teenagers. A few teenagers smoke for the attention of it. Others smoke because of their curiosity on what its like to smoke. Many people smoke because they are stressed or nervous; this is mostly common with adults. The person choosing to smoke may not realize that they are not just harming themselves but they are also harming the ones surrounded by them. A ban on smoking would protect the public from passive smoking. If smoking in public was banned it would promote healthier lifestyles for everyone. Although the smoker is the one choosing to put those harmful chemicals into their body, if a child lives in the house with that person it can become very dangerous for that child. He or she will be more prone to asthma attacks and their immune system will even become weaker. Therefore if smoking was banned, it would promote healthier lifestyles for everyone. Some communities have already put a ban on smoking in public areas. In 2005 Washington State made it illegal to smoke in public and they have to come to the agreement that it has helped their community by taking this action. Originating as a tradition of the Native Americans, practiced mostly on special occasions, smoking has gradually become a kind of mass addiction. Due to the efforts of tobacco companies seeking to increase their sales, people started smoking more and more often; the evolution of a more traditional pipe to a cigarette took some time, but eventually tobacco became more affordable and easier to use (you now simply need to light it up, instead of having to always carry a tobacco pouch, stuff a pipe, puff it, and so on). The key difference between traditional cigarettes and eā€“cigarettes is that eā€“cigarettes don't contain tobacco. But, it isn't just the tobacco in cigarettes that causes cancer. Traditional cigarettes contain a laundry list of chemicals that are proven harmful, and eā€“cigarettes have some of these same chemicals but lesser than than regular tobacco. Electronic cigarettes, or eā€“cigarettes, are being marketed as the "safe" new alternative to conventional cigarettes. For years environmentalists have been pressuring cigarette makers to cut back on synthetic chemicals in their products, to reduce their harm to both smokers and nonā€“smokers. Regulators have been worried about second hand smoke for years, and have been passing indoor smoking bans state by state. Today you can go to work, shop, or go out to eat in many places without being inundated with toxic haze from smokers. However, there is still a problem with cigarette butts left behind by smokers. We all see this litter on our sidewalks, roads, and parking lots, often just feet from a trash bin. Unfortunately, many smokers still toss their spent cigarettes out their cars. Although it is also a controversial product, electronic cigarettes, or eā€“cigarettes, could help reduce this toxic burden. • 11. Persuasive Essay On Smoking In the US alone nearly 258 billion cigarettes were sold in 2016. While advertizing that cigarettes are hazardous to your health, smoking has only gone down about 10% since 1997. Tobacco is a drug and it should be treated like one. If a doctor has not prescribed it, it should be considered drug abuse and illegal. Like many other drugs, smoking hurts the user. However, smoking is not only hurting the user, it is also hurting the people around them. In addition to banning tobacco, the entire production of it should be banned as well. When a smoker is smoking there are often people around. Even if the smoker is using a smoking designated area nearby people are still getting the effects of the smoke. Smoking designated areas only protect nearby people, at best, from around 50% of the tobacco smoke. That is considering every smoker is using a designated smoking area. The Lancet states that, "Worldwide, 40% of children, 33% of male nonā€“smokers, and 35% of female nonā€“smokers were exposed to secondā€“hand smoke in 2004." Environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) kills up to 53,000 nonsmokers a year. ETS is the third leading preventable cause of death in the US. When exposed to tobacco smoke, children are at more of a risk. Compared to adults, children are more likely to develop ear infections, respiratory problems such as coughing and wheezing, and other respiratory diseases such as asthma. Tobacco smoke is also connected to sudden infant death syndrome. Sudden infant death syndrome is the unexpected death of a child that is under the age of one. To make matters worse second hand smoke plays a major role in low birth weight in infants. If a mother or father has been exposed to secondhand smoke it can impair fertility. So not only is tobacco smoke hurting kids as they grow up, but it also hinders them from the moment they are born. In the article "Dangers of Secondhand Smoke" by Elizabeth Smoots she states that " Within 30 minutes after exposure to ETS, the coronary arteries of nonsmokers function as poorly as those of regular smokers." This means that smokers are making other people smoke, without even having a cigarette in their own hand. • 12. Persuasive Essay On Smoking We all know what we want, we want a society that disapproves of smoking, a society that says no to smoking, a nonā€“smoking society where people live a full life and don't die from the brutality of smoking. It goes without saying that I know what we want: we want a blue sky, the gorgeous sun beaming upon usā€“not a sky full of that wretched, foul, cancerā€“causing smoke that we inhale into our angelic bodies, don't you? As one we can work together to stop this madness, to stop this appalling, problematic soulā€“wrenching substance. I want the country of Russia, a place engulfed in the sweltering smoke, inundated in red hot flames to be free from it! The country of Greece, a place buried with smoke to be free from its curse! Two of the many countries where people smoke the most. Smoking is a detrimental habit that should be stopped, this satanic substance that causes so much harm to our bodies. It can cause over 14 different types of cancer, it can reduce your athletic performance, diagnose you with pneumonia and many, many more. In England alone over 15% of the adult population smoke this minacious substance, that's 15% of the England's population that have a risk of getting the variety of diseases, you don't want that to happen...do you? Well, I don't! Many people say that it is unfavourable, many say that it is pleasurable. Well, I say that it is horrendousā€“ smoking should be illegal! Surely, the amount of harm it does to the smoker's body and the people around him or her is too great to be unnoticed. It is vital to do this because smoking kills over 430,000 people in the United States alone each year and costs them thousands of dollars in health care for smoking related medical issues. Although health care for smokers also costs the government millions, they refuse to ban the easily addictive drug from hands of civilians. This is because of the profits that tobacco production and sales, a disgrace to us, make for the economy each year. This is inexcusable because it is putting the importance of money and the stimulation of the economy before citizens' health and lives. Think about the children, you don't want a society where your little boy grows up to be an addict just because of the influence caused by you! You! Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In 2014 the CDC ran its third consecutive year federally funded antiā€“smoking ad campaign called "Tips From Former Smokers (Tips)". This time it broke up the advertisement campaign into 2 phases, with phase 1 running advertisements from its 2012 and 2013 campaigns and phase 2 featuring completely new advertisement's. An estimated 1.8 million smokers attempted to quit smoking because of the 2014 ad campaigns. Most people are divided when it comes to antiā€“smoking advertisements. Some believe they will quit when they are ready and not be pressured by guilt into quitting, while others believe the advertisement does not apply to them. I know firsthand, my father felt this way, he was born in 1939, he began smoking at an early age. In the nineteen forties and fifties there were not many studies linking cancer or other illnesses to tobacco use. People shouldn't smoke because not only does smoking affect your everyday way of live but they may also kill you. People who become addicted to these certain substances know the risks but don't care because they are mentally attached to the drugs that destroy their body. • 16. Persuasive Essay On Smoking Smoking tobacco is known for being detrimental to a person's health. When you smoke a cigarette you are inhaling a toxic mix of chemicals including formaldehyde, ammonia, arsenic and cyanide. Along with the inhaling of carcinogenic chemicals smokers also deal with nicotine addiction. Nicotine is highly addictive and makes quitting very difficult for those who smoke. Many smokers continue to smoke knowing the harmful effects but, even worse, some people willingly smoke while they are pregnant. Women who smoke during pregnancy create a very unhealthy environment for themselves and their unborn child. Pregnant women who smoke should stop immediately to ensure the health of their child. Smoking while pregnant can lead to serious health effects such as premature birth, birth defects and death. In the womb babies are extremely vulnerable to chemicals. The CDC states that "babies have immature porous bloodā€“brain barriers that allow greater chemical vulnerability to the developing brain." Babies also have far less chemical bonding proteins than that of an adult allowing chemicals to reach organs easier. Doctors even advise mothers to avoid pumping gas, painting, using hair dye and painting their nails while pregnant do to the chemicals in those products in fear of harming the baby. Women who smoke while pregnant subject their child to over 4,000 different chemicals of which 43 are known to be carcinogenic compounds. This mixture of toxic chemicals is hazardous to both the mother and the child's health. Any mother who cares for her child's health should do whatever it takes to quit smoking in order to birth a healthy baby. Losing a child is a parents worst nightmare. For many parents, it is unpreventable, but, for mothers who lose their child because they smoked during pregnancy it is completely preventable. Smoking while pregnant increases the chances of a miscarriage and death. The Georgia state of public health reviewed death records from infants who died from SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) and estimated "20.7% of cases could be prevented if the mother had not smoked during pregnancy."
