Democratic Leadership Style
Democratic Leadership Style
Democratic leadership style is also referred to as participative leadership. This is because all employees and organizational members have an equal say
in the administrative decisions affecting their lives. The style values affirmation and collaboration of members and candidates. Democratic leadership
allows equal participation of people in reposing, developing and creating laws. Democratic style can be described as an institutionalized principle
because it applies social order and cooperation in the management of the human behaviour. Institutions managed through democratic style are chosen
depending on the permanence and social order. The style transcends the individual human lives and intentions through...show more content...
The democratic process is characterized by free and fair elections. Democratic elections are governed by electoral rules. The elective rights are
characterized by eligibility and suffrage i.e. the freedom to run for an elective post and the right to participate in voting. Democratic style is most
effective when the leader is willing to keep employees informed on matters affecting their welfare (Caruso and Mayer, 2004; Goleman, Boyatzis and
McKee, 2002; Spector, (2005)). The style is necessary when it is necessary for employees to share problem–solving and decision–making duties. The
style is also effective when the leader is willing to develop a sense of personal progress and job satisfaction. Enormous or complex problems may
require the intervention of democratic solutions for them to be ardently solved. The style is perfect when the leader is planning to encourage team
building and participative role play among employees.
However, democratic leadership style should not be applied when the time is not sufficient to include everyone's input. According to Grint (2005),
democratic decisions are not suitable if the managers can easily and cost–effectively make decisions. It is also not advisable for the leaders to apply the
style if they feel threatened by the democratic leadership

The Leadership Style Of Leadership Styles
1.Introduction
It is suggested that leadership is a kind of ability or activity which a leader could straight affect and guide their followers to achieve certain objectives in
the specific situation (John Calvin Maxwell,2011). The shifting internal elements and increasing external competitions have posed growing demanding
to managers' leadership approaches. However, managers are provided with various personalities or perspectives, accordingly, managers are not
accomplishing their aims by using similar styles. The leadership style, according to Newstrom and Davis (1993), is the ways and approaches of
offering targets, fulfilling plans as well as inspiring subordinates. Based on the types of individuals the leader works with and various personality
traits hold by the leader, the leadership style differs. There are several leadership styles suggested by different researchers such as autocratic,
democratic, laissez–fair, transactional and transformational. Some of leadership styles are no longer suit for current marketplaces especially for those
organizations which want to attract talent person from all over the world and exploit global markets. Therefore, this essay aims to focus on
transactional and transformational styles, then take Baidu and Google as examples to make a comparison and contrast between these two styles as well
as illustrate which one may generate better outcomes than another.

Leadership Style and Effective Communication in the Workplace
Introduction
Blanchard, Hersey & Johnson (2015) introduced the concepts pertaining to leadership styles, self–awareness in Chapter 11, and effective
communication in Chapter 12. The two main ideas that will be taken away from the lesson review involve the use of feedback, and active listening,
which helps in essential communication within the organization and in one's daily life. When it comes to choosing the right style of leadership that best
suits one's environment within the workplace, things to consider include the experience and skills of the employees, the nature and type of work
involved, the organization's environment, and one own preferred or natural style (Informa, n.d.). With Situational Leadership, Informa (n.d.) states "a
good leader will find him or herself switching instinctively between styles according to the people and work they deal with" (Informa, n.d.). This
paper serves as an analysis of personal and outside perceptions of one's leadership style. Furthermore, providing an explanation as to how one may
leverage the ideas taken from the lessons and incorporate it into the workplace and personal life.
Major Thesis According to Blanchard et. al's (2015) text, feedback enlarges one's self–awareness, when others are willing to openly share their views if
a leader's behavior (Blanchard et. al, 2015, p. 191). Additionally, it is recommended that "leaders find a few trusted subordinates who

Essay on Leadership Styles
This report is attempting to delve into the systemic differences autocratic, democratic and laissez–faire styles of leadership has on an individual, class,
department or institution. As a nursing student, I believe it is important to understand the distinct differences inherent to each style as well as the
benefits and disadvantages associated with the various styles of leadership.
From my studies and observations an autocratic leader is less likely to use the opinions or suggestions of others; in fact they could be a working
dictator. They are very hands on and believe their way is the only way. Autocratic leaders are normally inflexible. Working with or for this type of
person could make for a very long day. (Lewin & Lippitt, 1938)...show more content...
In class or when I visit any hospital it is easy to spot the various leadership styles all you need to do is take a moment and observe the floor.
Autocratic leaders are normally focused and many are micro managers for the lack of a better term(Lewin & Lippitt, 1938). We were told by the
medical team at Cincinnati that my mother was brain dead and that as soon as she was taken off of life support she would transition quickly. The
doctor was hurried, blunt and to the point when he addressed the family. I am convinced that he was and is an autocratic leader. This man seemed to
look right through us to his next case. Autocratic leaders are take control focused and they get the job done under stressful situations (Lewin & Lippitt,
1938).
We were all in such poor sprits hearing the bad news about my mother. It was refreshing when a very positive nurse began to explain my mother's
situation after the doctor left the room. I notice that although she was our attending nurse she was also in charge of the floor. Even though she would
be assisting us she would from time to time assist her subordinates. She would use words and phrases such as how can "We..." (G. Pearson, personal
communication, DATE). The democratic leader welcomes the opinions and suggestions of their subordinates. (Lewin & Lippitt, 1938)

Army Leadership Style Essay
Every leader in the U.S. Army have a different leadership style. During my thirteen years in the Army I have seen several leaders placed in
positions where it was obvious that they were born for that position, performing admirably and making very real contributions. In other situations
leaders were placed in positions of leadership appearing unprepared for the role. These leaders over time were soon surrounded by other leaders that
ensured their success. Several leaders in my career have left a lifelong mark on my leadership style. Every one of them left me with knowledge that
have built a foundation for my leadership beliefs and style. There is also what we call in the Army, "toxic leadership" which produce harm to the
organization, leaders

Servant Leadership Essay
Servant Leadership
What is it? The phrase "Servant Leadership" was coined by Robert K. Greenleaf in The Servant as a Leader, an essay he first published in 1970
("What is servant," ). The servant leader serves first, while aspiring to lead second. The servant leader serves the people that he or she leads, implying
employees are an end in themselves rather than a means to organizational purpose or bottom–line. Servant leadership is meant to replace a command
and control, top–down, model of management. Servant leadership encourages collaboration, trust, foresight, listening, and the ethical use of power and
empowerment. A few famous examples of servant leaders are George Washington, Gandi and Caesar Chavez.

8.Stewardship
Greenleaf's view of all institutions was one in which CEO's, staff, directors and trustees all play significant roles in holding institutions in trust for the
greater good of society.
9.Commitment to the Growth of People
Leaders believe people have an intrinsic value beyond tangible contributions as workers. As a result, genuine interest in the spiritual, professional and
personal growth of all employees is demonstrated.
10.Building Community
Leaders seek to identify a means for building a sense of community among those who work in a given institution.
Differences from Other Styles In the approach on general leadership characteristics, the fundamental difference is authentic leaderships strive to be
"real", whereas servant leaders strive to be "right." Servant leadership is a style that lays down a set of characteristics that all leaders are supposed to
emulate to attain success, and tries to shape the character and personality of the leader. On the other hand, authentic leaders tend to rely on their own
unique set of experiences and style that has been learned and developed throughout their career. The main difference between servant and authentic
styles, when applying into practice, is the serving of others. One of the primary applications is to give priority to the interest of others. Servant leaders

Leadership Styles LDR/531 Organizational Leadership Leadership Styles Leaders have a "the ability to influence a group toward the achievement
of a vision or set of goals" (Robbins & Judge, 2007, p. 402). In the past leaders have been described by certain traits or characteristics. These
traits can help an organization identify potential candidates who may be strong leaders. Later behavior approaches of leaders were identified that could
be taught. In short, leaders could be made. Situations have an impact on which leader behaviors will be most effect at any given time. Several
contingency theories have been formulated over the years to identify how situations influence leadership behavior. Each style has strengths and...show

Dependent on the situation a leader can use a supportive, directive, participative or achievement–oriented behavior type to motivate subordinates to
achieve higher performance levels. Situational leadership theory "specifies the appropriate type of leadership behavior for different levels of
subordinate maturity in relation to the work" (Yuki, 2006, p. 223). For less mature subordinates may require a leader to be more task and
directive–oriented to provide guidance that will help mature the individual. Mature subordinates require less task–oriented structures and work best
when a leader uses a relation–oriented method. Multiple–linkage model includes four variables: managerial, intervening, criterion, and situational
(Yuki, 2006). This model describes "the interacting effects of managerial behavior and situational variables on the intervening variables that determine
the performance of a work unit" (Yuki, 2006, p. 228). The six intervening variables are task–commitment, ability and role clarity, organization of work,
cooperation and mutual respect, resources and support, and external coordination. These variables are interdependent. To maximize the effectiveness
of a group, a balance of each variable is critical. A situation can affect the variables, regardless of leader involvement. A leader's role is to correct any
deficiencies. Cognitive resource theory analyzes the situations in which

My Leadership Style Paper
A leader's style is the way in which someone provides direction, implements plans and motivates people.1 In other words, everybody has a method of
leading others to accomplish a shared vision and goal. Furthermore, understanding leadership style is vitally important for both a leader and those under
his or her leadership. For example, if a leader is a democratic leader, people's opinions will be very important to that leader as well as lengthy
discussion before a decision is made. Therefore, those under this leader need to know that their opinion is valued and necessary. When I first started
leading at church, I was a very democratic leader until someone said, "Just tell us what you want us to do." What they were asking for was a
compelling vision and assignment. We were just getting started and they wanted to charge a hill, but did not know what hill we should charge....show

This leadership style creates a great atmosphere of independence, yet over time can lead to a group of silos within a church. Finally, I relate most to
the team–building leader because after much trial and error I have learned that it takes a team to equip the body of Christ and do it well. Therefore,
learning to work through a team has become my leadership style with a heaving leaning towards the entrepreneurial style because I love to start new
works that will connect more people to the mission of God. I believe that much of a leader's style is connected to a leader's S.H.A.P.E. This is because a
leader cannot lead well if they do not lead from who they are and as God created them. I love what Rick Warren says in Purpose Driven Life, "No one
else can play your role, because they don't have the unique shape that God has given

The leadership style combination between autocratic leadership and empowerment leadership would give the futuristic cutting edge per se, to create a
diversified ultimate decision making policy. Autocratic leadership, which is a style that leaders who make decisions on their own without consulting
employees enjoy and empowerment, which is a practice in which managers lead employees by sharing power, responsibility, and decision making with
them (Boone, L. E., & Kurtz, D. L. 2009 p. 260–270). This mixture creates responsibility and accountability. If the leader is made to lead then, in

In regard to the previous statement of Dr. Hmieleski, one could formulate an idea that many empowerment leaders today, do not take in account that
there are different factors in which one should keep in mind. This involves different aspects such as, urban and suburban cultures, psychological
aspects of possible behavior of a tardy or insubordinate employee and in general, not letting friends or family get in the way of hiring and firing. In
one's opinion one could also notice how it is working at a fast food restaurant; many will notice that when a place is not run well, it is due to the lack
of proper communication from the leader to the worker – thus, creating animosity, people quitting in the middle of a "rush" and overall mal–attitude.

Using the Strength Finders 2.0 Assessment, I was able to identify my personal strengths, which would identify my personal leadership skills. My
strength assessment results where Harmony, Consistency, Empathy, Achiever, and Belief. This paper will identify each strength, how they relate to my
leadership style and approach to leadership.
The first strength identified is Harmony. Harmony is defined in the freedictionary.com as an agreement in a feeling or opinion (Dictionary, 2009). In
Strength Finder 2.0 Harmony is describes as you look for areas of agreement, there is little to be gained by conflict and friction, so you seek to hold

Consistency should be a big factor in nursing leadership, people should be evaluated on their work not by how they talk up to the boss. Another
important factor of Consistency in the areas of leadership is when employees know what is expected of them they are able to be more productive.
Consistency is a big strength in my leadership skills, I look at the work people do and how they treat others, then in how the suck up or show off.
The third strength listed by Strengths Finder 2.0 is Empathy. Empathy is defined by thefreedictionary.com as the identification with and understanding
of another's feelings, and motives (Dictionary, 2009). Strengths Finder 2.0 describes Empathy: you can sense the emotions of those around you, you
feel what they are feeling, you don't necessarily agree with their perspective, and you don't feel pity for the person's perspective (Rath, Strengths
Finder 2.0, 2007). Empathy is a good strength to have it makes you as an individual to be more open to what others are feeling, but with this their
feelings can't be a cause of conflict within the workplace.
Empathy can be a good leadership skill to have especially in nursing being aware to what employees are feeling especially through a difficult time can
help in how you approach the individual. For my personal leadership skills Empathy has helped me to identify when someone was having a difficult
time and to help guide

Why Is Leadership Style Important
Why is Leadership Style Important?
By John Cronkite Ed.D. www.dirigoconsulting.com
A Few Reminders from Last Month: One of the most significant strengths of an effective leader is the ability to create a positive work climate. In
an outstanding organizational climate, people are energized to do their best work, free of unnecessary distractions. Climates that energize workers to
produce their very best can improve results by as much as 30 percent. What's New This Month: Up to 70 percent of an employee's perception of
organizational climate can be traced directly to the actions of you as the organization's leader. More than anyone else, you as the boss create the
conditions that determine people's ability to work well. Research by David...show more content...
Four of the styles when used consistently over time had a positive impact on climate and results. The other two styles were only effective when used
in the short term to address specific performance or business issues. If they were used on a regular basis there was a negative impact on the
workplace climate. Styles with a Positive Impact on Climate: In this newsletter, I'll address two leadership styles that have a positive impact on
climate. In the July newsletter, I'll address additional styles. Visionary: This style was found to have the most positive impact on climate. Leaders
who used this style consistently drove up each of the aspects of climate (refer to the Change Ability Challenge issues number four and five, So I
Can't Do This Alone and Getting the Best From Your People, for a description of the specific climate factors). o Primary objective: Mobilizing

consider the leadership or management style fits you least. Explain what is least desirable with that style from your perspective.
What leadership or management style speaks most to me? They are a few leadership styles that I venerate. The Transformational Leadership, the
Visionary Leadership, and the Charismatic Leadership styles are the most evident to me. Each one has its own distinct advantages and disadvantages.

Encourages others.
Provides support and recognition.
Stirs the emotions of people.
Gets people to look beyond their self–interest.
Inspires people to reach for the improbable.
These qualities are fundamental qualities a leader must possess. These are just the building blocks of crafting the consummate leader. Undoubtedly,
while sufficient, they are more qualities required.
What other qualities should a leader have? In addition to the eight qualities mentioned before, a leader needs a vision. Political sociologists Max
Weber and James MacGregor Burns theorized that many leaders are visionaries. "These visionary leaders possess a driving sense of purpose and
confidence in their ability to achieve their goals. They take the lead and inspire others to move forward." This style is known as the Visionary
Leadership style and is necessary in creating a complete leader. All of the great leaders of the world have a vision. From President John F.
Kennedy to Dr. Martin Luther King, each had visions of something greater. Great leaders give real thought to the values that inspire them as well as
to the people that follow. Ambition and persistence are invaluable to achieving a vision and are the first steps toward leadership success. On its own
a vision does not always make for a great leader and this is why Visionary Leadership comes in second to Transformational Leadership. A great leader
requires both styles. Adolf Hitler had a vision, as did Pol Pot

Three Types of Leadership Styles Essay
QUESTION 1 (500–550 words each)
There are three types of leadership styles. The first style of leadership style is Autocratic Style. According to Awan (2010, page 253
–266) autocratic
leaders make independent decisions 'to complete a singular objectives' and to rule over other team members. The second style is Democratic Style.
This style of leadership encourages and allows team members to have an input based on anything to work related, but the team leader will always
make the final decision (Robbins 2011, page 297–299). And the third leadership style is Laissez–Faire Style. According to Van (2004, page 1–13) a

Expert Power was found to be the main source of power used, as through out the two–hour meeting Terrill had with the engineers, Terrill allowed the
engineers to state any issues they had about the way they work. The engineers stated the reason why they were not producing was because they
spent most of their time writing reports for the top manager, which does not take the time to read the reports. From the input Terrill received from the
engineers, Terrill was then able to make a final decision based on the feedback received. Terrill's final decision was to, instead of sending the day's

Legitimate Power was used when Terrill told the engineers to, instead of sending the day's reports straight to the headquarters, to send them straight to

My leadership style is problem solver; this leadership style offers me the opportunity to utilize the knowledge and experience of my followers. I

this because I feel that everyone in the group have something tangible to contribute to the group, and sometimes they might have access to key

In situations where roles are vague or time is limited, this leadership style can lead to communication failures and uncompleted projects. Sometimes the

(2) Compare your leadership style to that of two of your team members.
In comparing my leadership style to that of two of my team members, I chose to compare Robert Boyd whose leadership style is delegating – this is a
leadership style where the leader leaves his or her colleagues to get on with their work, and Robert Kafka, whose leadership style is director – "an
extreme form of transactional leadership, where a leader exerts high levels of power over his or her employees or team members. People within the
team are given the opportunities for making suggestions, even if these could be in the team's or organization's interest." (Leadership Styles:
Understanding & Using the right one for your situation)
Comparing Robert Kafka's Director Leadership style, I found out that his leadership style has some similarities and differences with my leadership
style as a problem solver. In director style, we both share goal setting and identification of problems with our employees, but the director comes up
with solution while the problem solver develops a plan to solve problems and consults with employees. As problem solver

A Critical Analysis of Democratic Leadership Style Charles Maurice de Talleyrand
–PГ©rigord, a French, bishop, politician, and diplomat, once stated
"I am more afraid of an army of one–hundred sheep led by a lion than an army of one–hundred lions led by a sheep." Leadership is defined as the
ability to influence a group toward the achievement of a vision or a set of goals (Robbins & Judge, 2013). Leadership inside the context of the
workplace and the study of organizational behavior has the ability to dramatically affect the effectiveness of groups, teams, and overall productivity. In
fact, most companies believe leadership is important enough to spend billions of dollars on leadership training and development (Robbins & Judge,
2013). Under the category of leadership, there are several different styles. Three of the styles of leadership are authoritarian, democratic, and
laissez–faire. Recently, according to my results from a leadership style questionnaire, my results showed that I employ the democratic style of
leadership. Democratic leadership is a type of leadership style in which members of the group take a more participative role in the decision making
process (Cherry, 2015). In other words, democratic leadership gives the followers a legitimate voice in the decision making process, and it also has the
ability to foster relationships. Benefits of the Democratic Leadership Style The democratic leadership style has many benefits that are highly sought

Democratic Leadership Style

  • 1. Democratic Leadership Style Democratic Leadership Style Democratic leadership style is also referred to as participative leadership. This is because all employees and organizational members have an equal say in the administrative decisions affecting their lives. The style values affirmation and collaboration of members and candidates. Democratic leadership allows equal participation of people in reposing, developing and creating laws. Democratic style can be described as an institutionalized principle because it applies social order and cooperation in the management of the human behaviour. Institutions managed through democratic style are chosen depending on the permanence and social order. The style transcends the individual human lives and intentions through...show more content... The democratic process is characterized by free and fair elections. Democratic elections are governed by electoral rules. The elective rights are characterized by eligibility and suffrage i.e. the freedom to run for an elective post and the right to participate in voting. Democratic style is most effective when the leader is willing to keep employees informed on matters affecting their welfare (Caruso and Mayer, 2004; Goleman, Boyatzis and McKee, 2002; Spector, (2005)). The style is necessary when it is necessary for employees to share problem–solving and decision–making duties. The style is also effective when the leader is willing to develop a sense of personal progress and job satisfaction. Enormous or complex problems may require the intervention of democratic solutions for them to be ardently solved. The style is perfect when the leader is planning to encourage team building and participative role play among employees. However, democratic leadership style should not be applied when the time is not sufficient to include everyone's input. According to Grint (2005), democratic decisions are not suitable if the managers can easily and cost–effectively make decisions. It is also not advisable for the leaders to apply the style if they feel threatened by the democratic leadership Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. The Leadership Style Of Leadership Styles 1.Introduction It is suggested that leadership is a kind of ability or activity which a leader could straight affect and guide their followers to achieve certain objectives in the specific situation (John Calvin Maxwell,2011). The shifting internal elements and increasing external competitions have posed growing demanding to managers' leadership approaches. However, managers are provided with various personalities or perspectives, accordingly, managers are not accomplishing their aims by using similar styles. The leadership style, according to Newstrom and Davis (1993), is the ways and approaches of offering targets, fulfilling plans as well as inspiring subordinates. Based on the types of individuals the leader works with and various personality traits hold by the leader, the leadership style differs. There are several leadership styles suggested by different researchers such as autocratic, democratic, laissez–fair, transactional and transformational. Some of leadership styles are no longer suit for current marketplaces especially for those organizations which want to attract talent person from all over the world and exploit global markets. Therefore, this essay aims to focus on transactional and transformational styles, then take Baidu and Google as examples to make a comparison and contrast between these two styles as well as illustrate which one may generate better outcomes than another. 2.Literature review Max Weber (1947) stated that there are three types of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Leadership Style and Effective Communication in the Workplace Introduction Blanchard, Hersey & Johnson (2015) introduced the concepts pertaining to leadership styles, self–awareness in Chapter 11, and effective communication in Chapter 12. The two main ideas that will be taken away from the lesson review involve the use of feedback, and active listening, which helps in essential communication within the organization and in one's daily life. When it comes to choosing the right style of leadership that best suits one's environment within the workplace, things to consider include the experience and skills of the employees, the nature and type of work involved, the organization's environment, and one own preferred or natural style (Informa, n.d.). With Situational Leadership, Informa (n.d.) states "a good leader will find him or herself switching instinctively between styles according to the people and work they deal with" (Informa, n.d.). This paper serves as an analysis of personal and outside perceptions of one's leadership style. Furthermore, providing an explanation as to how one may leverage the ideas taken from the lessons and incorporate it into the workplace and personal life. Major Thesis According to Blanchard et. al's (2015) text, feedback enlarges one's self–awareness, when others are willing to openly share their views if a leader's behavior (Blanchard et. al, 2015, p. 191). Additionally, it is recommended that "leaders find a few trusted subordinates who Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay on Leadership Styles This report is attempting to delve into the systemic differences autocratic, democratic and laissez–faire styles of leadership has on an individual, class, department or institution. As a nursing student, I believe it is important to understand the distinct differences inherent to each style as well as the benefits and disadvantages associated with the various styles of leadership. From my studies and observations an autocratic leader is less likely to use the opinions or suggestions of others; in fact they could be a working dictator. They are very hands on and believe their way is the only way. Autocratic leaders are normally inflexible. Working with or for this type of person could make for a very long day. We were told by the medical team at Cincinnati that my mother was brain dead and that as soon as she was taken off of life support she would transition quickly. The doctor was hurried, blunt and to the point when he addressed the family. I am convinced that he was and is an autocratic leader. This man seemed to look right through us to his next case. Autocratic leaders are take control focused and they get the job done under stressful situations (Lewin & Lippitt, 1938). We were all in such poor sprits hearing the bad news about my mother. It was refreshing when a very positive nurse began to explain my mother's situation after the doctor left the room. I notice that although she was our attending nurse she was also in charge of the floor. Even though she would be assisting us she would from time to time assist her subordinates. She would use words and phrases such as how can "We..." (G. Pearson, personal communication, DATE). The democratic leader welcomes the opinions and suggestions of their subordinates. • 5. Army Leadership Style Essay Every leader in the U.S. Army have a different leadership style. During my thirteen years in the Army I have seen several leaders placed in positions where it was obvious that they were born for that position, performing admirably and making very real contributions. In other situations leaders were placed in positions of leadership appearing unprepared for the role. These leaders over time were soon surrounded by other leaders that ensured their success. Several leaders in my career have left a lifelong mark on my leadership style. Every one of them left me with knowledge that have built a foundation for my leadership beliefs and style. • 6. Servant Leadership Essay Servant Leadership What is it? The phrase "Servant Leadership" was coined by Robert K. Greenleaf in The Servant as a Leader, an essay he first published in 1970 ("What is servant," ). The servant leader serves first, while aspiring to lead second. The servant leader serves the people that he or she leads, implying employees are an end in themselves rather than a means to organizational purpose or bottom–line. Servant leadership is meant to replace a command and control, top–down, model of management. Servant leadership encourages collaboration, trust, foresight, listening, and the ethical use of power and empowerment. A few famous examples of servant leaders are George Washington, Gandi and Caesar Chavez. Key Principles In a...show more content... 8.Stewardship Greenleaf's view of all institutions was one in which CEO's, staff, directors and trustees all play significant roles in holding institutions in trust for the greater good of society. 9.Commitment to the Growth of People Leaders believe people have an intrinsic value beyond tangible contributions as workers. As a result, genuine interest in the spiritual, professional and personal growth of all employees is demonstrated. 10.Building Community Leaders seek to identify a means for building a sense of community among those who work in a given institution. Differences from Other Styles In the approach on general leadership characteristics, the fundamental difference is authentic leaderships strive to be "real", whereas servant leaders strive to be "right." Servant leadership is a style that lays down a set of characteristics that all leaders are supposed to emulate to attain success, and tries to shape the character and personality of the leader. On the other hand, authentic leaders tend to rely on their own unique set of experiences and style that has been learned and developed throughout their career. The main difference between servant and authentic styles, when applying into practice, is the serving of others. One of the primary applications is to give priority to the interest of others. • 7. Leadership Styles Essay Leadership Styles LDR/531 Organizational Leadership Leadership Styles Leaders have a "the ability to influence a group toward the achievement of a vision or set of goals" (Robbins & Judge, 2007, p. 402). In the past leaders have been described by certain traits or characteristics. These traits can help an organization identify potential candidates who may be strong leaders. Later behavior approaches of leaders were identified that could be taught. In short, leaders could be made. Situations have an impact on which leader behaviors will be most effect at any given time. Several contingency theories have been formulated over the years to identify how situations influence leadership behavior. Each style has strengths and...show more content... Dependent on the situation a leader can use a supportive, directive, participative or achievement–oriented behavior type to motivate subordinates to achieve higher performance levels. Situational leadership theory "specifies the appropriate type of leadership behavior for different levels of subordinate maturity in relation to the work" (Yuki, 2006, p. 223). For less mature subordinates may require a leader to be more task and directive–oriented to provide guidance that will help mature the individual. Mature subordinates require less task–oriented structures and work best when a leader uses a relation–oriented method. Multiple–linkage model includes four variables: managerial, intervening, criterion, and situational (Yuki, 2006). This model describes "the interacting effects of managerial behavior and situational variables on the intervening variables that determine the performance of a work unit" (Yuki, 2006, p. 228). The six intervening variables are task–commitment, ability and role clarity, organization of work, cooperation and mutual respect, resources and support, and external coordination. These variables are interdependent. To maximize the effectiveness of a group, a balance of each variable is critical. A situation can affect the variables, regardless of leader involvement. A leader's role is to correct any deficiencies. Cognitive resource theory analyzes the situations in which Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. My Leadership Style Paper A leader's style is the way in which someone provides direction, implements plans and motivates people.1 In other words, everybody has a method of leading others to accomplish a shared vision and goal. Furthermore, understanding leadership style is vitally important for both a leader and those under his or her leadership. For example, if a leader is a democratic leader, people's opinions will be very important to that leader as well as lengthy discussion before a decision is made. Therefore, those under this leader need to know that their opinion is valued and necessary. When I first started leading at church, I was a very democratic leader until someone said, "Just tell us what you want us to do." What they were asking for was a compelling vision and assignment. We were just getting started and they wanted to charge a hill, but did not know what hill we should charge....show more content... This leadership style creates a great atmosphere of independence, yet over time can lead to a group of silos within a church. Finally, I relate most to the team–building leader because after much trial and error I have learned that it takes a team to equip the body of Christ and do it well. Therefore, learning to work through a team has become my leadership style with a heaving leaning towards the entrepreneurial style because I love to start new works that will connect more people to the mission of God. I believe that much of a leader's style is connected to a leader's S.H.A.P.E. This is because a leader cannot lead well if they do not lead from who they are and as God created them. I love what Rick Warren says in Purpose Driven Life, "No one else can play your role, because they don't have the unique shape that God has given Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 10. Leadership Style Essay Leadership Essay, A.P.A 1000 word essay The leadership style combination between autocratic leadership and empowerment leadership would give the futuristic cutting edge per se, to create a diversified ultimate decision making policy. Autocratic leadership, which is a style that leaders who make decisions on their own without consulting employees enjoy and empowerment, which is a practice in which managers lead employees by sharing power, responsibility, and decision making with them (Boone, L. E., & Kurtz, D. L. 2009 p. 260–270). This mixture creates responsibility and accountability. "It is not easy to do." (Amble, B. 2006) In regard to the previous statement of Dr. Hmieleski, one could formulate an idea that many empowerment leaders today, do not take in account that there are different factors in which one should keep in mind. This involves different aspects such as, urban and suburban cultures, psychological aspects of possible behavior of a tardy or insubordinate employee and in general, not letting friends or family get in the way of hiring and firing. In one's opinion one could also notice how it is working at a fast food restaurant; many will notice that when a place is not run well, it is due to the lack of proper communication from the leader to the worker – thus, creating animosity, people quitting in the middle of a "rush" and overall mal–attitude. The first strength identified is Harmony. Harmony is defined in the freedictionary.com as an agreement in a feeling or opinion (Dictionary, 2009). The third strength listed by Strengths Finder 2.0 is Empathy. Empathy is defined by thefreedictionary.com as the identification with and understanding of another's feelings, and motives (Dictionary, 2009). Strengths Finder 2.0 describes Empathy: you can sense the emotions of those around you, you feel what they are feeling, you don't necessarily agree with their perspective, and you don't feel pity for the person's perspective (Rath, Strengths Finder 2.0, 2007). Empathy is a good strength to have it makes you as an individual to be more open to what others are feeling, but with this their feelings can't be a cause of conflict within the workplace. • 12. My Personal Leadership Style A Disc Assessment is an excellent tool to obtain an individual personality trait. It can disclose information one may or may not have known about themselves. In my case I discovered I have a blend of Cautious, Supportive, and Dominant trait. This explains why I see myself as a Democratic, Authoritative, and an Affiliative leader. By John Cronkite Ed.D. www.dirigoconsulting.com A Few Reminders from Last Month: One of the most significant strengths of an effective leader is the ability to create a positive work climate. In an outstanding organizational climate, people are energized to do their best work, free of unnecessary distractions. Climates that energize workers to produce their very best can improve results by as much as 30 percent. What's New This Month: Up to 70 percent of an employee's perception of organizational climate can be traced directly to the actions of you as the organization's leader. Four of the styles when used consistently over time had a positive impact on climate and results. The other two styles were only effective when used in the short term to address specific performance or business issues. If they were used on a regular basis there was a negative impact on the workplace climate. Styles with a Positive Impact on Climate: In this newsletter, I'll address two leadership styles that have a positive impact on climate. In the July newsletter, I'll address additional styles. Visionary: This style was found to have the most positive impact on climate. Leaders who used this style consistently drove up each of the aspects of climate (refer to the Change Ability Challenge issues number four and five, So I Can't Do This Alone and Getting the Best From Your People, for a description of the specific climate factors). o Primary objective: Mobilizing people toward a long term direction and vision What does it look like when the leader is using this style? Alternatively, consider the leadership or management style fits you least. Explain what is least desirable with that style from your perspective. What leadership or management style speaks most to me? They are a few leadership styles that I venerate. The Transformational Leadership, the Visionary Leadership, and the Charismatic Leadership styles are the most evident to me. Undoubtedly, while sufficient, they are more qualities required. What other qualities should a leader have? In addition to the eight qualities mentioned before, a leader needs a vision. Political sociologists Max Weber and James MacGregor Burns theorized that many leaders are visionaries. "These visionary leaders possess a driving sense of purpose and confidence in their ability to achieve their goals. They take the lead and inspire others to move forward." This style is known as the Visionary Leadership style and is necessary in creating a complete leader. All of the great leaders of the world have a vision. From President John F. Kennedy to Dr. Martin Luther King, each had visions of something greater. Great leaders give real thought to the values that inspire them as well as to the people that follow. Ambition and persistence are invaluable to achieving a vision and are the first steps toward leadership success. On its own a vision does not always make for a great leader and this is why Visionary Leadership comes in second to Transformational Leadership. A great leader requires both styles. Adolf Hitler had a vision, as did Pol Pot Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Three Types of Leadership Styles Essay QUESTION 1 (500–550 words each) There are three types of leadership styles. The first style of leadership style is Autocratic Style. According to Awan (2010, page 253 –266) autocratic leaders make independent decisions 'to complete a singular objectives' and to rule over other team members. The second style is Democratic Style. This style of leadership encourages and allows team members to have an input based on anything to work related, but the team leader will always make the final decision (Robbins 2011, page 297–299). And the third leadership style is Laissez–Faire Style. Expert Power was found to be the main source of power used, as through out the two–hour meeting Terrill had with the engineers, Terrill allowed the engineers to state any issues they had about the way they work. The engineers stated the reason why they were not producing was because they spent most of their time writing reports for the top manager, which does not take the time to read the reports. From the input Terrill received from the engineers, Terrill was then able to make a final decision based on the feedback received. Terrill's final decision was to, instead of sending the day's reports to the headquarters, send them straight to his office. This is where Terrill used Legitimate Power as another primary source of power. Referent Legitimate Power was used when Terrill told the engineers to, instead of sending the day's reports straight to the headquarters, to send them straight to his office. This was to prove if what the engineers were saying, about the day's report not being read, was true. And it was true, headquarters did not ask for the reports until the end of the month. 522 QUESTION 2 (500–550 words each) According to Robbins (2011, page 303) the Hersey–Blanchard Theory was created in order to focus on leader effectiveness and followers' readiness. Shadowed by an example of an observed unsuccessful leadership strategy, how I responded, and a recommended strategy for the situation described. Ending with the type of leader I aspire to be in the future and my final thought regarding leadership. During this meeting we communicated about unmet needs for the project. Being new to this event, I needed an in–depth explanation. Her situational leadership style was confirmed through explanations and my comprehension. Some areas she needed to emphasize on, while others were easier to understand. I may have left overwhelmed, but she did not create a feeling of incompetence. Proving she exhibits this style of leadership. Unsuccessful Leadership Style Secondly, in contrast, I once obtained a preceptor who created the feeling of incompetence and left me feeling unwelcome. This occurred during a rotation at a hospital. This preceptors' leadership skills were unsuccessful and ruled by autocratic command. When communication happened, it was one way. This created an unfriendly work environment and unpleasant partnership. For instance, I was dismissed, sent to read charts and not to interact with the patient. I complied until I heard my patient calling for the nurse and her not being there. Incidentally, I was the student nurse with an obligation to aid the patient under our care. I inquired on how I could contribute that lead to offering support with toileting needs. Accordingly, I entered the room and assisted. Instead of leaving due to cardiac issues I remained in the room until finished. While there, I simultaneously finished my head to toe as required by my instructor. • 17. Leadership Style Self-Analysis Essay (1)Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your leadership style. My leadership style is problem solver; this leadership style offers me the opportunity to utilize the knowledge and experience of my followers. I believe that I am more of this leadership style because I tend to accept input from group members when making decisions and solving problems. I do this because I feel that everyone in the group have something tangible to contribute to the group, and sometimes they might have access to key information that can help in my decision making. I take the information and put them together to use in reaching a decision, because I know that I will have the final say as the leader of the group. Sometimes the group members may not have the necessary expertise to make quality contributions to the decision–making process. (2) Compare your leadership style to that of two of your team members. In comparing my leadership style to that of two of my team members, I chose to compare Robert Boyd whose leadership style is delegating – this is a leadership style where the leader leaves his or her colleagues to get on with their work, and Robert Kafka, whose leadership style is director – "an extreme form of transactional leadership, where a leader exerts high levels of power over his or her employees or team members. People within the team are given the opportunities for making suggestions, even if these could be in the team's or organization's interest." (Leadership Styles: Understanding & Using the right one for your situation) Comparing Robert Kafka's Director Leadership style, I found out that his leadership style has some similarities and differences with my leadership style as a problem solver. In director style, we both share goal setting and identification of problems with our employees, but the director comes up with solution while the problem solver develops a plan to solve problems and consults with employees. • 18. Lyndon B. Johnson Leadership Style Once, a pastor speaking at a conference showed us a picture of Jawaharlal Nehru and another of Mahatma Gandhi. He then asked the crowd to identify these pictures; I was able to recognize Gandhi but I couldn't identify the Prime Minister of India in that time period. A similar demonstration implementing Martin Luther King Jr. and Lyndon B. Johnson elicited similar responses: no one could identify the person in office but could recognize the true leader. Through this demonstration, I learned that leaders do not have to be facilitated by a position, instead positions should be granted to those who deserve it: the people who care for others, do the right thing, and set good examples. Generally, I find myself to be the person who breaks up the awkward Get more content on HelpWriting.net

A Critical Analysis of Democratic Leadership Style Charles Maurice de Talleyrand –PГ©rigord, a French, bishop, politician, and diplomat, once stated "I am more afraid of an army of one–hundred sheep led by a lion than an army of one–hundred lions led by a sheep." Leadership is defined as the ability to influence a group toward the achievement of a vision or a set of goals (Robbins & Judge, 2013). Leadership inside the context of the workplace and the study of organizational behavior has the ability to dramatically affect the effectiveness of groups, teams, and overall productivity. In fact, most companies believe leadership is important enough to spend billions of dollars on leadership training and development (Robbins & Judge, 2013). Under the category of leadership, there are several different styles. Three of the styles of leadership are authoritarian, democratic, and laissez–faire. Recently, according to my results from a leadership style questionnaire, my results showed that I employ the democratic style of leadership. Democratic leadership is a type of leadership style in which members of the group take a more participative role in the decision making process (Cherry, 2015). In other words, democratic leadership gives the followers a legitimate voice in the decision making process, and it also has the ability to foster relationships. Benefits of the Democratic Leadership Style The democratic leadership style has many benefits that are highly sought after in every Get more content on HelpWriting.net
