Stress Response To Managing And Coping Essay
1.Review the debate about adaptation to, managing, and coping with stressor events. In your opinion, how do these reactions to stress relate to
resilience?
Stress reactions such as adaptation to, managing, and coping, relate to resilience because they are all examples of the term. Furthermore, these stress
reactions like resilience focus on family strengths and wellness. More specifically, coping requires a family to build skills through direct action. For
example, if the car is broken down, the family may focus on the strengths of the family by utilizing their mechanic skills, or learning new mechanical
skills. Adaptation follows a similar pattern, if we take the exact situation with the issue concerning the car, the family may just choose

The Nature of Stress self–assessment focused on my stressors. I learned that most of my stressors were chronic; mainly dealing with school and
socializing. The stressors were categorized as mental and spiritual, although I did notice missing family and friends could fall under spiritual and
emotional. Another thing I learned was most of my stressors were caused from my move to Bismarck. For example, living far from home, new
job, and not having close friendships. This form of assessment didn't work for me because I found I was focusing on the negative and felt more
stressed after seeing all my stressors in a list. The Signs of Stress assessment focused on my personal symptoms of stress. I previously noticed
these happened, but I never drew the connection to stress. For example, I normally have very clear skin, but every once in awhile I'll break out.
The effects of stress are physiological. Now that I have a list of my signs of stress, I am able to recognize when situations like break outs happen
what is really going on. The Personality Survey was to determine if I had a hardi personality. Before starting the assessment, I predicted I would be
classified with the hardi personality because I handle stress well. The categories I scored highest on were "I consider myself an optimist", "I approach
new situations with the idea that I will learn something valuable", and "I am strong willed". The one I resonate with most is the one about new
situations because I moved to

Reflection Paper On Coping With Stress
Each person suffers from stress at some point in their life whether it is short–term or chronic. The way I would describe stress would be an excess of
pressure one feels in everyday life. This can be caused by deadlines, illness, change, emotional problems, etc. Everyone has different coping
mechanisms to manage stress, but not all methods of coping are healthy. The stressmanagement course at the College of Western Idaho has taught me
the proper ways of handling stress. Based on the coping methods I have learned this semester, I have developed a three–month holistic stress
management strategy and plan. Making a major life change which aids in coping with stress is a challenge, so it is wise to start with small
modifications to one's daily life. The first step is to start participating in yoga. If one is new to yoga or they have not practiced yoga in a long time,
start with Hatha. Hatha is the most basic form of yoga and is meant for beginners. Starting with a form of yoga meant for the average novice helps
decrease the risk of injury. Hatha is also a slow–moving form of yoga which is more relaxing and can help ease a stress–filled mind. After practicing
yoga, it is common to meditate. This helps calm the mind and puts everyday stressors into a different perspective. When I feel stressed, I tend to
catastrophize the situation and my mind cannot stay calm. The practice of yoga and meditation would help calm my mind if I begin to feel
overwhelmed or stressed. Once one has

In a research, it is shown that 80% of the adults from the age of 30 – 50 admit that they have had a lot of stress in the past year. (Ted Talks, 2013)
Adults who are working say work stress is the most major stress that they have. (Delvin, 2011) In Canada, the percentage of the population
experiencing high level of stress has not decreased but increased since 2003. From the year 2012 to 2013, the percentage has already risen from

with stress are considered a rather personal measure. Psychologists, scientists and health associations publish books and give lectures to teach people

leading treatments in Canada. (Delvin, 2011) It is a counseling therapy where therapists assist people to use their thoughts to control their moods,

The Stressful Life of College Students Essay
The Stressful Life of College Students
Modern life is full of demands, frustrations, hassles, and deadlines. Everyone experiences stress as it is a natural part of human life. Our bodies
have a built mechanism for responding to stress. However, during a certain period of time, people tend to face more stress than usual. One of such
periods is college life. It can be very stressful for some people, especially for those who are not used to carrying out with so many responsibilities.
Students spend most of their time balancing classes, projects, tests, final exams, personal life, and work; that is enough to make anyone feel
overwhelmed. This stress can cause multiples problems, not just emotional, but physicals as well.
One of the causes...show more content...
It becomes a problem to manage time effectively and distribute it to have balance. A lot of students are used to leaving all the work for the last minute.
They follow a false idea that everything can be done before the deadline. However, it is not the case with education. Procrastination makes students do
things halfway and not retain all needed information.
The effects of constant stress on a student's body are devastating and may have long–term consequences. When stress escalates without coping with it,
numerous troublesome psychological and physiological conditions may occur. First, the stressful life of college students may result in such physical
problems as sleeping disorders, breathing difficulties, headaches, and a loss of appetite. In addition, fatigue, colds, weight change, teeth grinding,
increased alcohol and drug use are also common. Unfortunately, stress is often linked to the immune system suppression. It increases the chances of
altering any existing disease. teeth grinding, increased alcohol and drug use are also common. Unfortunately, stress is often linked to the immune
system suppression. It increases the chances of altering any existing disease.
Second, stress may result in a number of emotional problems. The most common ones are the feeling of being overwhelmed, depression, fear, and
anger. However, students may also experience irritability, mood swings, bad temper, worrying, nervous laugh, and crying spells.

Reflection On Coping With Stress
I have learned that I am not doing so well in coping with stress from life since I have been taking this class. Many different things that I have not
paid attention to as warning signs not just to my emotions, but also to my health. First, we have to define what the word adjustment is in physiology
to be able to understand how to deal with everyday stressors and situations that arise in our lives. "Adjustment is the physiological process of
adapting, coping with and managing." (Santrock, 2006. P.5). Everyday life situations and challenges that we face. I feel that I handle stress at work

believe that going to work in a plant setting made me change from a shy person into someone who now has the confidence to do anything I set out
to achieve. Balancing a family, social life, work and school has been a challenge that I have made it a priority to put my family first and not the
job I do. Going back to school was not about a promotion in the workplace, but about me accomplishing something that others said in my past that I
would not achieve. This is for me and no one else to finish and get a degree so that I can prove to myself and to others it can be done with the right
prospective. Coping with issues have been a strong point with me since this disease has hit me and I deal with life as it comes. I am learning to enjoy
each day even though I do not feel good and have learned to push forward even when I am sick to accomplish my goals in life. With each new day
new challenges arise and I must look at them and analyzing what needs to be done sand then take the steps to accomplish and overcome those areas
that may have been weak once, but now have become a building block for success and accomplishment. The need to celebrate the little victories as
well as the big ones is important to me at this time and finding

In America and around the world everyday people have stress and they find ways to cope. Stress is a person's feeling that is created by our body when
there is certain event that can cause tension to strain upon our physical, mental, and emotional state. Stress can be caused by being in college, the tests,

Transitioning to life at college is exciting and stressful, this will be the best time of their life. Coping with stress during the first year at college,
becomes important due to their social–emotional adjustments, but also their academic success. College student's main stressors is their academics
comes in at 50%, and managing time comes in at 43% (DeRosier, 2013). When I became a college student I wasn't sure what to expect. I am an
older college student, that changed from one school to an online school was bit stressful to say the least. Learning how online school worked
seemed harder than it was. Once I got everything figured out I planned on how to make my classes work for me and the time I had. I do one set of
classes the first part of the week and the second class I worked on it toward the end of the week. It still is stressful but managing my time helps.
Adding clinicals into the mix made me stress even more. I wasn't sure how I would keep up with my school work. I learned that doing breathing
exercise, and just taking a break when I feel overwhelmed. When stressed about school you must find out what works for you.
Life's most Stressful Events is the Loss of a Loved One When we experience loss the fight or flight response kicks in, and wanting to run from what is

After learning about stress in this class my understanding is that, stress symptoms may be affecting your health, even though you might not realize it.
You may think illness is to blame for that nagging headache, your frequent forgetfulness or your decreased productivity at work. But sometimes stress
is to blame. Indeed, stress symptoms can affect your body, your thoughts and feelings, and your behavior. There is a long list of serious health
problems that may develop due to stress. Some include depression, diabetes, hair loss, heart disease, high blood pressure, stomach upset, sleep
problems, chest pain, back pain, obesity, obsessive–compulsive or anxiety disorder, sexual dysfunction, tooth and gum disease, ulcers, cancer. Some

However, after taking this class I have learned many ways to cope with this and it has been a tremendous help to me and my relationship. I believe
my strengths are keeping organized and motivated. If I am not organized it is a huge stressor for me. When I stay motivated I accomplish a lot
more things in one day, which in return is a huge stress relief. Some areas that I show room for improvement are I need to set more weekly or
monthly goals for myself instead of just long term goals, by doing this I believe I would feel more accomplished. Another area of improvement for
me is I need to have more trust for my boyfriend. Forgive, forget and move on. One last improvement would be to improve my level of self
discipline. The topics I related to the most or the ones that I was most interested in were body awareness, breathing exercises, the worry and anxiety
chapter, goal setting, and time management. I really enjoyed the body awareness exercises because it recognizes that when stressed the body
automatically tenses. Our muscles become hard, tight and tense. Holding this tension is very tiring, and hence, a feeling of fatigue can occur. If the
muscular tension has no release, because of the constant stress levels and not knowing how to relax your muscles can cause strain on your body.
After doing this exercise in the book I was able to recognize what tense muscles felt and looked like and what relaxed muscles felt and looked like. So

Essay Conclusion On Stress
Introduction
Stress is a normal reaction to life events. It is what you feel when life demands more than you are used to or more than you can handle. Some stress
can be useful. For example, the stress reaction can help you catch the last bus of the day, study for a test, or meet a deadline at work. But stress that
occurs too often or for too long can cause problems. It can affect your emotional health and interfere with relationships and normal daily activities. Too
much stress can weaken your immune system and increase your risk for physical illness. If you already have a medical problem, stress can make it
worse.

Stress management is the recommended treatment for stress. The goals of stress management are reducing stressful life events and coping with stress
in healthy ways.
Techniques for reducing stressful life events include the following:
Stress identification. Monitor yourself for stress and identify what causes stress for you. These skills may help you to avoid some stressful events.
Time management. Set your priorities, keep a calendar of events, and learn to say "no." These tools can help you avoid making too many commitments.
Techniques for coping with stress include the following:
Rethinking the problem. Try to think realistically about stressful events rather than ignoring them or overreacting. Try to find the positives in a
stressful situation rather than focusing on the negatives.

on your behavior is overeating or under eating, drug or alcohol abuse, and social withdraw. Since anyone at any age can be stressed there is no
certain population that is effected the most. I would say that teenagers get stressed easily due to school, spots and or jobs. The thing that stresses
most high school student out is picking and choosing what they are going to do after high school and what college they will be going to if any.
People a little bit older after college could be stressed by trying to find a job or trying to find or support a family. Older people could be stressed if they

from minor to chronic events, and these events that cause people to be stressed out is called stressors. There are three types of stressors, namely:

and this involves the adaptive coping. On the other hand, others use alcohol, drugs or overeat to escape from their problems, and this involves the
maladaptive coping. Another strategy to manage stress is getting rid of negative attitudes, confess, give up the thoughts that produce resentments and
replace them with a different perspective. There are so many coping strategies; if individuals fail to tolerate their stress, they can be sick. I strongly

Not having enough time can be a major source of stress. Since demands of daily living keep on growing more and more, people feel there just
aren't enough hours in a day to do everything that needs to get done. Training people how to manage there time is now an American activity. Today
there are books, tapes, workshops, and seminars to make people more proficient. There are also daily planners, organizers, and calendars to help
people remember and organize things. Having a better understanding of managing time can make people feel more in control of their life. If people

The person shouldn't get carried away with multitasking, though. That may lead to more stress and that could be dangerous. A person should also
decide what he realistically can do in the time he has and should get help in doing the rest. With time and practice a person can become quite good at
managing personal and professional time.
In order to efficiently and effectively compete in today's business world, one must be able to strike a balance between work and life in general. Too
often individuals focus on one area while remaining lax or negligent to others. Stephen Covey, of Franklin Covey, developed an outline for individuals
to maintain that balance in his book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. By following his guidelines, one is not only improving his/ her
physical ability to complete things, but also the mental ability to deal with possible changes.
First, Covey suggests writing a brief personal statement that focuses on their long term goals. This helps an individual to maintain focus and a sense of
priority in their work or personal lives. The reasoning behind this is to differentiate between what needs to be done now and what can wait until time
permits. When writing, it is most convenient to compare your own mission statement to that of a company. What is your purpose, your maingoal in life,
and a general description of how to get there.
Second, you should state your short term

How Do You Handle Stress Essay
How Do You Handle Stress? Stress is part our daily lives. It makes us want to work harder or improve ourselves. However, too much stress can
take its toll on your body. You could lose sleep and even increase your risk of chronic disease. How do you handle stress? There are, in fact, several
ways to cope with stress. Here are some ideas for dealing with stress to help you avoid unnecessary strain on your physical and mental health. Part 1:
How Do You Handle Stress? 1.Avoid too much caffeine, alcohol, or nicotine. The worst way to deal with stress is use cigarettes, alcohol or coffee to
stimulate your mind and body to be able to work harder. However, these stimulants may increase your stress levels further. So then, how do you handle

Exercise more. Stress increases the production of cortisol and adrenaline in your body. These stress hormones are released as your "fight or flight"
mechanism to protect you from harm. To counteract these, try to engage in more physical activity, which increases your "feel good" hormones
and reduces your stress hormones, thus restoring your mind and body to a more relaxed state. It will also improve your sleep quality. 3.Sleep
more. Stress causes loss of sleep and lack of sleep causes stress. But instead of taking sleep medications, try to relax before going to bed. Use your
bed only to sleep and avoid doing other activities such as reading, using the computer or watching TV on your bed. You can also take a warm bath or
read a light book to relax before sleeping. Aim for regular sleeping hours so that your body gets used to a healthy bedtime routine. 4.Use relaxation
techniques. Try practicing some stress reduction techniques. These include self–hypnosis, focusing on a positive mantra, and disregarding negative
thoughts. This may take some time to develop, but with practice you can learn the art of relaxation. 5.Talk to a

Strategies for Coping with Stress Essay examples
Strategies for Coping with Stress
Stress has been defined as a pattern of negative physiological and psychological processes occurring in situations where people perceive threats to
their well being which they may be unable to meet. These situations involve stimuli which can be either real or imagines and are generally known as
stressors.
Stressors come in many forms; for example, they can be cataclysmic such as life disasters including floods and earthquakes and also things such as
rape and abuse. But they can also quite insignificant things such as being late for work or stuck in traffic – these are generally known as life's little
hassles.
Although stressors are mainly seen as negative,...show more content...
There is also the problem of prolonged and severe stress as many people's lifestyles can easily produce stressors and this increases their chances of a
stress related illness.
Much of the research regarding stressors and their long–term effects on the body comes from Seyle's General Adaptation Syndrome (1956). A lot of
Seyle's research was based on using laboratory animals and his results showed that constant exposure to severe stressors produces three physiological
phases, the first phase is alarm reaction, and this showed the bodies physiological response to a situation with stressful stimuli. Phase two was known
as the stage of resistance in which if the stressful stimuli (stressor) persists or is not dealt with correctly the body seeks to maintain arousal at a
constant lower level. The final phase was the stage of exhaustion where by eventually the continued high arousal levels exhaust the body's resources
producing both negative physiological and psychological effects.
The extent to which people can adapt to a stressor depends on the individual and how they perceive the stressful stimuli because people's emotions
seem to be able to cope with short–term events where as the physiological response our body's produce coincides with our negative emotions and so

Managing Exam Stress Essays
Define stress: Stress is the body's natural response to a threatening situation, and stress causes the release of hormones such as adrenaline, that prepare
the body for its instinctual response to a threat: flight, fight or freeze. The adrenaline causes processes in your body to change, for example, your
breathing and heart rate quicken, your senses sharpen, muscles tighten and your blood pressure is raised. These changes allow your reaction time to
increase, which could mean the difference between life and death. However, many people, including students, live in stressful situations every day, and
this has a negative effect of their health.
Factors causing exam–related stress: One of the main causes of exam–related stress is the...show more content...
There is a fear of disappointing a person such as a family member with poor academic results from exams, or not being accepted into a tertiary
institution. This fear motivates the student to do well, but also creates stress because of the thought of not achieving top marks or being rejected from
their ideal university because of low exam results.
Inadequate exam preparation is a major cause of exam–related stress because the student feels like there isn't enough time to study everything, and so
they lose sleep because of worry or studying late into the night. There are feelings of despondency and a sense of being overwhelmed by the amount of
work to study. Also, last minute studying lowers the chance of the facts being remembered, which increasesanxiety and stress during exam time. A
lack of sleep before an exam, as well as not having a proper breakfast or vitamin supplement also increases stress levels because the student is tired,
irritable, worried and the student's immune system weakens during stressful times such as exams, increasing their chance of getting sick.
Learners' responses to exam situations: Nicky Hayes, the editor of Foundations of Psychology, says that common responses to "exam stress" include
disturbed sleep patterns, tiredness, worry, irregular eating habits, increased infections because of a lowered immune system, and an inability to
concentrate. This is due to the increased amount of adrenaline being released into the body. Indecisiveness,

Coping with Stress Essay
Stress is part of our lives. We live with it, deal with it, and above all worry about it. Our way of life, the area in which we live, the economy, and our
jobs can cause a great deal of stress. Not everyone deals with the same level of stress and there are several factors that can impact our lives and cause
us to have higher or lower stress levels. We can have stress caused by Cataclysmic events which according to Feldman (2009) are events that can affect
many people at the same time and are "disasters such as tornado and plane crashes, as well as terrorist attacks". (p418). Other factors are personal

Work Stress and Mental Health Some people have higher levels of stress because they might have a very stressful job. Police officers, fire fighters,
soldiers in a war zone, health care providers, long distance truck drivers, and yes, even educators (think of a classroom full of students where you
are responsible for making sure that they are learning the skills they need to succeed) have very stressful jobs. According to Elkin and Rosch
(1990) workplace related stress in a major problem in the U.S. and it creates a major expense for corporations. Koeske, Kirk, and Koeske (1993)
indicate that all jobs have some level of stress but jobs that are in the human services have additional stressors because they "derive from intense
involvement in the lives of others". (p.319). They also refer to the type of stress experienced by individuals working in human services as
"burnout" (Koeske, Kirk, and Koeske, 1993, p.319). Another factor that can influence our stress level is how we handle life's demands. There are
different ways of reacting to the situations we face every day of our lives. We have all heard of expressions such as 'road rage' and 'going postal'.
These are terms that we have come to identified with violent reactions to stressors caused by situations all of us face every day. How many of us have

Stress Response To Managing And Coping Essay

  • 1. Stress Response To Managing And Coping Essay 1.Review the debate about adaptation to, managing, and coping with stressor events. In your opinion, how do these reactions to stress relate to resilience? Stress reactions such as adaptation to, managing, and coping, relate to resilience because they are all examples of the term. Furthermore, these stress reactions like resilience focus on family strengths and wellness. More specifically, coping requires a family to build skills through direct action. For example, if the car is broken down, the family may focus on the strengths of the family by utilizing their mechanic skills, or learning new mechanical skills. Adaptation follows a similar pattern, if we take the exact situation with the issue concerning the car, the family may just choose Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. The Nature of Stress self–assessment focused on my stressors. I learned that most of my stressors were chronic; mainly dealing with school and socializing. The stressors were categorized as mental and spiritual, although I did notice missing family and friends could fall under spiritual and emotional. Another thing I learned was most of my stressors were caused from my move to Bismarck. For example, living far from home, new job, and not having close friendships. This form of assessment didn't work for me because I found I was focusing on the negative and felt more stressed after seeing all my stressors in a list. The Signs of Stress assessment focused on my personal symptoms of stress. I previously noticed these happened, but I never drew the connection to stress. For example, I normally have very clear skin, but every once in awhile I'll break out. The effects of stress are physiological. Now that I have a list of my signs of stress, I am able to recognize when situations like break outs happen what is really going on. The Personality Survey was to determine if I had a hardi personality. Before starting the assessment, I predicted I would be classified with the hardi personality because I handle stress well. The categories I scored highest on were "I consider myself an optimist", "I approach new situations with the idea that I will learn something valuable", and "I am strong willed". The one I resonate with most is the one about new situations because I moved to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Reflection Paper On Coping With Stress Each person suffers from stress at some point in their life whether it is short–term or chronic. The way I would describe stress would be an excess of pressure one feels in everyday life. This can be caused by deadlines, illness, change, emotional problems, etc. Everyone has different coping mechanisms to manage stress, but not all methods of coping are healthy. The stressmanagement course at the College of Western Idaho has taught me the proper ways of handling stress. Based on the coping methods I have learned this semester, I have developed a three–month holistic stress management strategy and plan. Making a major life change which aids in coping with stress is a challenge, so it is wise to start with small modifications to one's daily life. The first step is to start participating in yoga. If one is new to yoga or they have not practiced yoga in a long time, start with Hatha. Hatha is the most basic form of yoga and is meant for beginners. Starting with a form of yoga meant for the average novice helps decrease the risk of injury. Hatha is also a slow–moving form of yoga which is more relaxing and can help ease a stress–filled mind. After practicing yoga, it is common to meditate. This helps calm the mind and puts everyday stressors into a different perspective. When I feel stressed, I tend to catastrophize the situation and my mind cannot stay calm. The practice of yoga and meditation would help calm my mind if I begin to feel overwhelmed or stressed. Once one has Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Coping With Stress And Stress In a research, it is shown that 80% of the adults from the age of 30 – 50 admit that they have had a lot of stress in the past year. (Ted Talks, 2013) Adults who are working say work stress is the most major stress that they have. (Delvin, 2011) In Canada, the percentage of the population experiencing high level of stress has not decreased but increased since 2003. From the year 2012 to 2013, the percentage has already risen from 22.7% to 23.0%. Despite of the small change in numbers, it is a observed trend that more people reported feeling 'extremely stressed'. (Statistics Canada, 2014) (Statistics Canada, 2014) Strategies currently in place to address this issue There is no official way yet definitely more than one way of coping with stress. Since coping with stress is a personal issue, and the impact of stress on individuals are different. Methods or means taken to deal with stress are considered a rather personal measure. Psychologists, scientists and health associations publish books and give lectures to teach people ways to manage and beat stress. Some people go to therapists and psychiatrists when they have stress. Cognitive behavioral therapy, (CBT) is one of the leading treatments in Canada. (Delvin, 2011) It is a counseling therapy where therapists assist people to use their thoughts to control their moods, altering their attitude and method of facing stress. Some of the most common advices are time management, meditation, seek help, relaxation, laugh, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 8. The Stressful Life of College Students Essay The Stressful Life of College Students Modern life is full of demands, frustrations, hassles, and deadlines. Everyone experiences stress as it is a natural part of human life. Our bodies have a built mechanism for responding to stress. However, during a certain period of time, people tend to face more stress than usual. One of such periods is college life. It can be very stressful for some people, especially for those who are not used to carrying out with so many responsibilities. Students spend most of their time balancing classes, projects, tests, final exams, personal life, and work; that is enough to make anyone feel overwhelmed. Procrastination makes students do things halfway and not retain all needed information. The effects of constant stress on a student's body are devastating and may have long–term consequences. When stress escalates without coping with it, numerous troublesome psychological and physiological conditions may occur. First, the stressful life of college students may result in such physical problems as sleeping disorders, breathing difficulties, headaches, and a loss of appetite. In addition, fatigue, colds, weight change, teeth grinding, increased alcohol and drug use are also common. Unfortunately, stress is often linked to the immune system suppression. It increases the chances of altering any existing disease. teeth grinding, increased alcohol and drug use are also common. Unfortunately, stress is often linked to the immune system suppression. It increases the chances of altering any existing disease. Second, stress may result in a number of emotional problems. • 9. Reflection On Coping With Stress I have learned that I am not doing so well in coping with stress from life since I have been taking this class. Many different things that I have not paid attention to as warning signs not just to my emotions, but also to my health. First, we have to define what the word adjustment is in physiology to be able to understand how to deal with everyday stressors and situations that arise in our lives. "Adjustment is the physiological process of adapting, coping with and managing." (Santrock, 2006. P.5). Everyday life situations and challenges that we face. I feel that I handle stress at work as it comes in a good manner always trying to find ways to solve the issues even though I need to learn more self–control and how to divert that stress ...show more content... Today I have learned to take things with a Grain of salt and to move pass what people thought of me or perceived me to be. I have learned to be expressive and open to new things and ideals. I believe that going to work in a plant setting made me change from a shy person into someone who now has the confidence to do anything I set out to achieve. Balancing a family, social life, work and school has been a challenge that I have made it a priority to put my family first and not the job I do. Going back to school was not about a promotion in the workplace, but about me accomplishing something that others said in my past that I would not achieve. This is for me and no one else to finish and get a degree so that I can prove to myself and to others it can be done with the right prospective. Coping with issues have been a strong point with me since this disease has hit me and I deal with life as it comes. I am learning to enjoy each day even though I do not feel good and have learned to push forward even when I am sick to accomplish my goals in life. With each new day new challenges arise and I must look at them and analyzing what needs to be done sand then take the steps to accomplish and overcome those areas that may have been weak once, but now have become a building block for success and accomplishment. The need to celebrate the little victories as well as the big ones is important to me at this time and finding Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Coping With Stress Essay In America and around the world everyday people have stress and they find ways to cope. Stress is a person's feeling that is created by our body when there is certain event that can cause tension to strain upon our physical, mental, and emotional state. Stress can be caused by being in college, the tests, homework, clinicals and state boards can have an overwhelming amount of pressure. Stress can be physical and mental strain on our body, this can be very harmful. The tragic loss of a loved one can cause tremendous amount of stress. Coping with stress during the first year at college, becomes important due to their social–emotional adjustments, but also their academic success. College student's main stressors is their academics comes in at 50%, and managing time comes in at 43% (DeRosier, 2013). When I became a college student I wasn't sure what to expect. I am an older college student, that changed from one school to an online school was bit stressful to say the least. Learning how online school worked seemed harder than it was. Once I got everything figured out I planned on how to make my classes work for me and the time I had. I do one set of classes the first part of the week and the second class I worked on it toward the end of the week. It still is stressful but managing my time helps. Adding clinicals into the mix made me stress even more. I wasn't sure how I would keep up with my school work. I learned that doing breathing exercise, and just taking a break when I feel overwhelmed. When stressed about school you must find out what works for you. Life's most Stressful Events is the Loss of a Loved One When we experience loss the fight or flight response kicks in, and wanting to run from what is happening to you. • 11. Stress Management Reflection Essay After learning about stress in this class my understanding is that, stress symptoms may be affecting your health, even though you might not realize it. You may think illness is to blame for that nagging headache, your frequent forgetfulness or your decreased productivity at work. But sometimes stress is to blame. Indeed, stress symptoms can affect your body, your thoughts and feelings, and your behavior. There is a long list of serious health problems that may develop due to stress. Some include depression, diabetes, hair loss, heart disease, high blood pressure, stomach upset, sleep problems, chest pain, back pain, obesity, obsessive–compulsive or anxiety disorder, sexual dysfunction, tooth and gum disease, ulcers, cancer. Some examples...show more content... However, after taking this class I have learned many ways to cope with this and it has been a tremendous help to me and my relationship. I believe my strengths are keeping organized and motivated. If I am not organized it is a huge stressor for me. When I stay motivated I accomplish a lot more things in one day, which in return is a huge stress relief. Some areas that I show room for improvement are I need to set more weekly or monthly goals for myself instead of just long term goals, by doing this I believe I would feel more accomplished. Another area of improvement for me is I need to have more trust for my boyfriend. Forgive, forget and move on. One last improvement would be to improve my level of self discipline. The topics I related to the most or the ones that I was most interested in were body awareness, breathing exercises, the worry and anxiety chapter, goal setting, and time management. I really enjoyed the body awareness exercises because it recognizes that when stressed the body automatically tenses. Our muscles become hard, tight and tense. Holding this tension is very tiring, and hence, a feeling of fatigue can occur. If the muscular tension has no release, because of the constant stress levels and not knowing how to relax your muscles can cause strain on your body. After doing this exercise in the book I was able to recognize what tense muscles felt and looked like and what relaxed muscles felt and looked like. So now when I Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Some stress can be useful. For example, the stress reaction can help you catch the last bus of the day, study for a test, or meet a deadline at work. Stephen Covey, of Franklin Covey, developed an outline for individuals to maintain that balance in his book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. By following his guidelines, one is not only improving his/ her physical ability to complete things, but also the mental ability to deal with possible changes. First, Covey suggests writing a brief personal statement that focuses on their long term goals. This helps an individual to maintain focus and a sense of priority in their work or personal lives. The reasoning behind this is to differentiate between what needs to be done now and what can wait until time permits. Stressors come in many forms; for example, they can be cataclysmic such as life disasters including floods and earthquakes and also things such as rape and abuse. There is also the problem of prolonged and severe stress as many people's lifestyles can easily produce stressors and this increases their chances of a stress related illness. Much of the research regarding stressors and their long–term effects on the body comes from Seyle's General Adaptation Syndrome (1956). A lot of Seyle's research was based on using laboratory animals and his results showed that constant exposure to severe stressors produces three physiological phases, the first phase is alarm reaction, and this showed the bodies physiological response to a situation with stressful stimuli. Phase two was known as the stage of resistance in which if the stressful stimuli (stressor) persists or is not dealt with correctly the body seeks to maintain arousal at a constant lower level. The final phase was the stage of exhaustion where by eventually the continued high arousal levels exhaust the body's resources producing both negative physiological and psychological effects. The extent to which people can adapt to a stressor depends on the individual and how they perceive the stressful stimuli because people's emotions seem to be able to cope with short–term events where as the physiological response our body's produce coincides with our negative emotions and so

  • 20. Managing Exam Stress Essays Define stress: Stress is the body's natural response to a threatening situation, and stress causes the release of hormones such as adrenaline, that prepare the body for its instinctual response to a threat: flight, fight or freeze. The adrenaline causes processes in your body to change, for example, your breathing and heart rate quicken, your senses sharpen, muscles tighten and your blood pressure is raised. These changes allow your reaction time to increase, which could mean the difference between life and death. However, many people, including students, live in stressful situations every day, and this has a negative effect of their health. There is a fear of disappointing a person such as a family member with poor academic results from exams, or not being accepted into a tertiary institution. This fear motivates the student to do well, but also creates stress because of the thought of not achieving top marks or being rejected from their ideal university because of low exam results. Inadequate exam preparation is a major cause of exam–related stress because the student feels like there isn't enough time to study everything, and so they lose sleep because of worry or studying late into the night. There are feelings of despondency and a sense of being overwhelmed by the amount of work to study. Also, last minute studying lowers the chance of the facts being remembered, which increasesanxiety and stress during exam time. A lack of sleep before an exam, as well as not having a proper breakfast or vitamin supplement also increases stress levels because the student is tired, irritable, worried and the student's immune system weakens during stressful times such as exams, increasing their chance of getting sick. Learners' responses to exam situations: Nicky Hayes, the editor of Foundations of Psychology, says that common responses to "exam stress" include disturbed sleep patterns, tiredness, worry, irregular eating habits, increased infections because of a lowered immune system, and an inability to concentrate. This is due to the increased amount of adrenaline being released into the body. Indecisiveness, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
