Persuasive Essay About Helping People
I've always wanted to be able to help people in any type of way, even if it's something so small that means the world to them. Throughout my
childhood, I've become quite accustomed to the idea of wanting to really help people; make a change to their lives in a way. When I got older, it
became a little more difficult for me to be able to carry this out, since I've been working while going to school for the past three year. I started to run
out of time that I could be using to help people less fortunate, that time was instead used for school and work. I decided to get in contact with my
childhood friend's mother to see if she could help me out in any way. She eventually responded and she assisted me with this essay. Mrs. Whitmore has
been volunteering with many projects throughout her life to help make a homeless person's/ anyone who is less fortunate day a little bit better. I
asked her what made her want to start helping people in the first place. Mr. Whitmore informed me that it wasn't too far from what I had said; she
always liked helping people just because, but then she wanted to do more than just being polite, so she took it to the next level and ended up
making volunteer work a huge part of her life. The admiration that I have for this woman; she ended up being someone I have utmost respect for. In
the email, she insisted that I volunteer at this place called Cafe 180. She told me how it's a place that cares for it's community and is a great place to

Everyone has their own personal problems and there are people that work behind the scenes to help solve these personal troubles. Psychologists study
human behavior and counsel people in a way that will help them solve their dilemmas. There are several different fields in psychology and each field
specializes in solving crises in different situations. Considering psychology as a career has several advantages such as interesting duties, excellent pay
and remarkable hours. Psychologists have several interesting tasks they must be able to complete. As a professional in this field, each day will be
something new. Psychotherapists observe several patients a day and each patient will bring a new challenge. Professional must be able to adapt...show

In order to become a psychologist a high school graduate must also receive at minimum a bachelor's degree, but most jobs require a masters or a
phD. In addition the the schooling, a student must also complete a two year internship. Although going into personality study can be expensive, it
is a well paying job, making it easy to pay back any student loans. Also, completing an internship can be very exciting and helpful because of the
hands on work before trying to complete the needed tasks without any experience. Even though psychology has a few downfalls, along with every
other occupation, it is a great job to consider and possibly pursue. A final reason to consider psychology as a career choices for the excellent work
hours. A psychotherapist's schedule all depends on where he or she works. For instance, if a psychologist owns or runs their own private practice
they can decide when they want to work, how much they want to work, and how hard they want to work. Some private practice owners sometimes
even only work part time. On the other hand, psychologists that work for hospitals, nursery homes or other healthcare facilities generally have set
schedule. This schedule can include weekends, evenings, and holidays. Similar to those who work at healthcare facilities, those who work for the
government or school also have set work hours but they very rarely have to work weekends, evenings, or holidays.

A Career as a Registered Nurse Essay
A Registered Nurse is a person who enjoys helping other people. They practically have the responsibility for many peoples lives. What's interesting
about a Registered Nurse is that they get to learn about all the parts of the human body. A Registered Nurse works in the medical field and needs to
be ready with anything that comes their way. There could be a sudden death, some kind of medical issue that pops up, and even a patient just falls
over and hurt themselves. As a Registered Nurse they need to be able to deal with blood, snot, vomit etc. The main thing a Registered Nurse has to
be good at is being able, and wanting to help people in need. A Registered Nurse typically tends to work in a clean and healthy work environment

para. 1). Registered Nurses should be emotionally stable, so they can help the families through rough times ("Registered Nurses" U.S. para. 47).
An RN also needs to be organized, and to make sure the patient gets what they need when needed ("Registered Nurses" U.S. para. 48). All RN's will
need to have the patients medical issues, and problems handy and to give the patients, and their medicines when the patients need it ("Registered
Nurses" U.S. para. 8). An RN will usually records what the patient is doing, sometimes work with medical machinery, talk to doctors about the
patient, and help the patient and the patient's family on how to deal with their medical problems ("Registered Nurses" U.S. para. 8). Another
important thing that an RN will need is to have the physical stamina and to be ready to lift or transfer patients ("Registered Nurses" U.S. para. 49).
An RN will have to be able to lift at least 10 pounds, maybe even 20 pounds ("Registered Nurse" para. 4). A person in this career should have an
energy level that is somewhat high, has a skill that is interpersonal, and a knowledge that is a little scientific ("Career" para. 6). If you happen to be an
RN in a nursing home, an RN will watch over the LPN's and CNA's, may start fluids for the patient, make plans for treatments, and manage the patients

Are People Likely To Protect Others?
Many people wonder why they are left alone and without a purpose, but the solution has always been in plain sight; it is always in your best
interest to aid others. If you are too focused on yourself and act as if you are the only one that matters, who would help you when you wouldn't
help anyone? The reasons why it would be wise to protect others is shown throughout history and many people's lives, proven true time and time
again. Standing up to injustices happening to a person can form a strong trust between you and that person, even if they are someone you never
have met before. Although it is implied by parents or society that as an individual you should only concern yourself with problems that pertain to
you, it is crucial that you recognize the struggles of others because of the various benefits it can provide for you. While many people believe trying
to protect others will produce negativity, the actuality is that doing this allures benefits to your happiness which in turn improves your overall mental
state. What I mean by mental state is how you are feeling at a certain time and whether you are thinking about a situation negatively or positively.
This is where happiness plays a major role towards your state of mind, as proven by a study ran by a group of sociologists. They claimed that people
who described themselves as, "very happy" volunteered in helping others or participating in community service for 5.8 hours a month. This study
consisted of 2000 people

Reflective Essay On Helping People
We always talked about helping others. I noticed that you love helping people, it gives you joy to help others, and I think that's something we both
share. I understand now, when you cannot help me, you don't feel the joy. In a way you feel like you can't help me and it may feel like a rejection. I
am not rejecting you when you offer help and I say no. There are times where I should have asked for help and I didn't, because I thought you couldn't,
which isn't an excuse, I should have given you a chance. I didn't ask for help because I was embarrassed and thought you would think less of me. I
have problems with helping others and my professor actually pulled me aside from the final and wanted me to write why I felt like I need to be a savoir,
and help others so much. I talked to her after class as a therapist and not a professor. I realized that what I thought was helping, was actually not. I
thought all help was good and it's not. When I go out my way and help others who been helped their whole lives, I'm just feeding into what they want.
I'm not letting them learn on their own, and will continue to help, and its actually not helping at all. I am guilty of doing that to you sometimes. I'm
always trying to help and it's not real help and we get stuck in the same cycle.
We went back and forth on this relationship, at one point you didn't want it, and I did, another point you wanted it and I didn't. There were points
where we both wanted it and It was wonderful. I had learned

Disabilities : People With Disabilities Essay
People with Disabilities
In 2012, the U.S. Census Bureau released a report that approximately 1 in every 5 Americans has a disability, which translated into almost 56.7
million people (U.S. Census Bureau, 2012). Moreover, more than half of that population was severely disabled. However, many disabled people are
stigmatized and excluded from everyday activities, do not receive the required disability–related services, and are not accorded equal access to
employment opportunities, education, and health care. Despite the treatment people with disabilities get from other people, disability has been
recognized as a human rights issue. It also proves that people with disabilities increasingly lead poor lives and experience poor socio–economic
outcomes than other people.
Since disability is a human condition, the majority of the people in the world will at some point in their lives experience a permanent or temporary
impairment, especially when they grow old. Disability is contested, multidimensional, dynamic, and complex and thus refers to difficulties persons
encounter in the body functioning, socially, physically, and mentally. It is the term used to refer to participation restrictions, activity limitations, and
physical impairments when the disabled persons interact with their contextual factors. One of the impairments afflicting people is mental retardation,
which results in social, physical, speech, and learning disabilities. Mental retardation is

The Importance Of Being An Effective Helper
In these self–assessments, I have realize several things about myself and how difficult some experiences may be for me. The ideal of the first
assessment, Assessing Adult Developmental Level, was to evaluate the important qualities of being an effective helper. My score was an 81 out of
120. The closer you are to 100 shows that you are more empathetic, accepting, competent, cognitively complex, and open to feedback. This assessment
help me realize how open–minded and empathetic I am. I have always listen when people are talking to me. I know that everyone makes mistakes and
if I want to become a Social Worker, then it is my job to help and not judge. Of course I can give them feedback and offers that can help, but it is also
my job to listen before making any decisions. What I need to work on is gathering facts and information before I make a decision. Not all decision I
make are going to be right. That is why I should view the problem from every angle before making a decision. In the second self–assessment, Theory
and Conceptual Orientation, my highest orientation was Post–Modern. Post–Modern suggest that all reality should be questioned and your past can
result to mental health problems which you can resort to therapy for help. Within this orientation, I scored the highest in narrative. Narrative suggest
that the conflict that people have are created by his/her social discourse. I usually do not believe in surveys, but this one was accurate. The reason I

Motive Behind Helping People
One of my strength is trying my best to help someone without expecting anything in return. Some people help others because they might receive a
favor from that person one day or the person might give them money. Many people ask me what my motive behind helping people? My answer is
simple, I don't help people because I have to, but I help people because I think it is a privilege that God give me to further glorify his name. One of my
weakness is when I hear a parent or anybody talking bad or negative about a kid. For example, strangers might gossip about "Mrs. X kid" is such a bad
kid, or "Mrs. Y" might repeatedly tell her kid, why are you so bad? Why can't you be like the other kids at school? Not knowing that words are
powerful, therefore,

My Desire And Passion For Helping Others
My desire and passion for helping others is intertwine with my personal and professional life experiences. Growing up in Guatemala, a third world
country, helped me become the person I am today. My first twelve years in my native country taught me lessons that changed my perspective and
shaped who I am and who I want to be in the future. From a young age, I had this great admiration for nature and in Guatemala I was able to admire
it. I remember endless nights looking at the stars and patiently waiting for a shooting star. Nature was my play room. Life in Guatemala was
beautiful but it wasn't easy. It was not until I came to the United States that I begin to realize how much my mother had sheltered me from the
violence and poverty that surrounded us. Sadly, my beautiful country is fill with corruption. The rich exploit the poor and laws are created to protect
does in power regardless of their wrongdoing. In Guatemala, women are treated unequally because our society has rigid gender roles and has created
a culture that takes pride in masculinity and machismo. It was well known in my small village that if a man found a female attractive and wanted her
for himself he could "robarte" which translates to "steal you." My mother and many other women in my family experienced this. My father was a
policeman in Guatemala and he was attracted to my mother. My mother, on the other hand, was not looking for any serious relationship because she
was only 17 years old. The city closest to

Pursuing My Passion Of Helping People
For the longest time I have wanted to pursue my passion of helping people. That is how I selected my major to be in Microbiology, so I can move
on and eventually get into medical school. After a year and a half have passed, I decided that I wanted to continue pursuing my passion in business as
well. While attending UNR my first year, I was greatly frustrated because while being majored in Biology, I also tookbusiness courses for my
Entrepreneurship minor. As days pass by, I am currently thinking about swapping my major into the business field. After completing the survey
answering everything honestly, the results showed all business related positions. Now, I did have the opportunity to manipulate the factors that gave
these results, but I honestly believe that these positions fit what I should be aiming for. After the completion of the survey, the four positions I decided
to select from the list included "Marketing Manager, Public Relations Manager, Events Manager, Medical Sales Representative." Although my major
may not follow along these results, they do follow along who I believe I am as a person. I decided to prioritize the jobs in order from, what job I
believe I would most fit to the job that I would least recommend for myself. The first job I chose off the list was the position of Marketing manager. A
marketing manager carries the position of actually using strategized techniques that involve manipulating and giving ideas on how to set the price of
certain products

The Importance of Helping Others
One time I had to help my friend Louie. We had been at my house and he forgot to turn his lights off in his old pickup. He went to start it and it
would not turn over, he realized that he left his lights on. I brought my pickup over to try and jump start his pickup. I wasted a quarter tank of gas
revving up my truck to try to provide more power. At this point we gave up, we then realized that we could roll start his pickup. I pulled his truck
with my truck up the bump to my sloped driveway. He got rolling, popped the clutch, and off he went.
Being able to help someone is a great advantage in life. I love helping people and to be able to help my friend in his moment of need is a great
pleasure in my life. When he got that truck going it...show more content...
BeoWulf is placed on the spectrum somewhere toward the top between robin hood and man in the water because he was very courageous and strong
but he did not give the ultimate gift like man in the water but he was not acting evil as Robin Hood was. The Man in the Water showed great generosity
when it comes to human nature which put him at the top of the spectrum. There is a difference between Man in the Water and BeoWulf because
BeoWulf is not as high up as Man in the water is on the spectrum.
The evidence that I have shown on Man in the Water shows that this man was willing to risk everything for complete strangers. It shows me that
this man is willing to do anything for his fellow man and he is a true hero. This man is on the top of the spectrum in every way possible. He is at
the top because he gave the greatest gift possible, and continued to give it to everyone till he died for his good deeds. The spectrum contains good and
bad characters and this man was definitely very good.
In Robin Hood Robin's actions put him on both ends of the spectrum he is good

Supporting the Elderly Essay
As adults the transition into old age can be difficult for some people. Frustration, lack of responsibility and dependence can make the process of
aging undesirable. Old age should be viewed as another phase of life, but not the end of life. In order to help elderly cope with aging it is important
for them to have social interaction. Support from family, friends and the local community can make a difference in the psychological well being of
older adults. There is great concern for the increasing amount of elderly people without children. Childlessness can not be directly linked to loneliness
and depression in the elderly, but there is some evidence that it can have an effect on their psychological well being. According to an article...show more

Although the main effects of childlessness are minimal in this study for older persons, it can not be ruled out that childlessness has no direct effect on
the psychological wellbeing of older people. The aspect of well being can differ, but is still important for rural elderly. An article in Sex Roles,
"Compared to their urban counterparts, rural elders experience significant threats to their economic, physical, and psychological well–being" (Patrick,
Cortells, and Barnes, 1993.) Factors such as age, gender, education, income, and marital status, can be predictors of well–being. More important though
is social support. Socialization differences in men and women can produce varying results of positive or negative well being. Women are more
emotionally supportive and have a larger network of support. Men do not rely on friends as much and are more withdrawn. In the article, Gender,
emotional support, and well–being among the rural elderly, a study was done to determine the association among emotional support and well–being as
well as gender differences. Evidence from the study demonstrates "Women and those perceiving less emotional support from family were more likely
to report high levels of negative affect." (Patrick, Cortells, and Barnes, 1993.) The

Why Do People Help Others? Essay
To discuss why people help others we must consider whether people are by nature selfless or selfish. The dominant view today in psychology is of
universal egoism; that we are fundamentally selfish, and that altruism (helping motivated by the wish to benefit another person) an impossibility. One
form of universal egoism is Piliavin et al's "arousal: cost–reward" model, whereby faced with a potential helping situation we weigh the
probable costs and rewards of alternative courses of action, then arrive at a decision which produces the best outcome for ourselves.Darley and Batson
(1973) conducted an experiment into the effect of the cost time in the decision to offer help. They found that 63% of students with plenty of time to get

Piliavin found that there is evidence of racism occurring in our decisions to help when he found that blacks were much more likely to help a black
drunk, and whites a white drunk. This suggests that we are less likely to help those with the least genes in common with us.Chagnon & Bugos
(1979), in an analysis of fighting in Southern Venezuela, found that the likelihood of a person helping another was strongly correlated with their
genetic relatedness to the person. However, how do we account for cases of altruism on the part of animals who are not related?
This could be explained by the fact that all members of a species have an element of shared genes even if not at all closely related. Trivers (1971),
however, proposed the principle of delayed reciprocal altruism, whereby animals return favours, therefore helpful behaviour is worthwhile because it is
likely to be returned. For example, Packer (1977) observed that male baboons which assisted another male in courting were more likely to receive this
help in return. Batson (1987), in contradiction with universal egoism proposed the "empathy–altruism" hypothesis. He saw helping as the
result of feeling empathy (experiencing another's emotions). By experimentally manipulating the degree to which his subjects experienced empathy or
personal distress in a potential helping situation Batson showed that empathetically aroused

Definition Essay On Helping
Being Helpful in Different ways: A Definition Essay "You do not need a reason to help someone." ("Media Web Apps," n.d.). Helping is the reaction
that comes from heart not because of self–interest. Some people have temperament to be helpful, or it can be nurtured from parents. When someone
needs help in any way, people offer their hand without thinking. Helping is caring about yourself and caring about others. Helping is not being
conceited and not seeing others lower than you when you help them. Helping is when someone lends a hand without thinking and not waiting for
anything in return. Helping is the action which can effectively change people's lives by giving money, encouraging people and expecting results in
the future. People may not be able to change the world, but they may change a person's life by help his/her. Helping people can be shown in many
ways such as giving money. For example, when a friend has a financial problem, and he/she can not overcome it, people can give money to help him

My Reflection Of Helping With Anxiety
Helping people has always been a passion of mine, particularly when sharing previous experiences I have been through in my life. Beginning in
about fifth grade I began having major issues dealing with anxiety. As the years passed, I began to learn ways to deal with my anxiety. With the help
of numerous counselors, friends, and family I was finally able to function with my anxiety. Looking back now, I can actually value my struggles with
anxiety, it has opened my eyes to numerous different things regarding the people in this world I am here with. Facing my struggles head on have
brought me to the realization throughout the years that I am far from alone with my struggles, according to healthstatus.com around 18% of all
Millennials also suffer from similar illnesses affecting their lives.
Growing older has brought me to the realization that, I feel I am here to help people who suffer from mental illnesses. Having the experiences of
dealing with anxiety for most of my life has opened up my eyes, revealing that there are no better people to help deal with mental illnesses than those
who have actually lived through them. As the end of my high school career quickly approaches the idea of coming back into schools in the near
future to help kids is becoming more and more exciting for me. Without the presence of Mrs. Goff in my life, I wouldn't be on the same track. She
has inspired me to make my past and the experiences I have been through into a way to help other kid's. Her being

Social Workers Help People With Disabilities
Social workers can aid in helping people with disabilities by promoting social justice. People with disabilities are often stereotyped and labeled
helpless, cannot hold a job, their burden to society, have no social skills, and that they do not contribute to society. People with disabilities are often
isolated from family, but when communities work with social workers and other entities they can live and work in a community setting. This gives
people with disabilities a chance to feel a sense of belonging and feel that they are contributing to society. Social workers should be advocates for
people with disabilities and work to ensure that public policies and service programs are more responsive to people with disabilities needs. Social

Have you ever wondered why nurses are so passionate about helping people? Is it because a nurse earns a lot of money? Being a nurse does not
mean there is a lot of money, but there is a passion for nurses that drive them to get up every day and go to work to help thousands of patients'
injuries, illness, and diseases. In the late 20th century, there were not enough nurses, and patients suffered and died because of lack of health
services. The reason a nurse inspires me is because I believe there is hope for patients' illness, and I want to help people. A nurse's career involves
many educations, responsibilities, and good working environment. A nurse has 3 types of degree education, including associate, bachelor, and a

The Homeless: Are They Worth Helping?
What is the one thing that all people wish they had, or take for granted if they do have? This is a thing that most do not even realize that they have the
luxury to call their own. Some find it with family and friends, some with material things, and some with the mental state they call normal. This is a
home. People are in constant poverty all around us and we do nothing to help. While poverty is a little different from homelessness, it's no different in
the fact that millions of people all across the United States are struggling to get by every day, and we do nothing to help. People live in community
housing, in the streets, in cardboard shelters, in between buildings and alleys, under bridges and inside of sewers. But these are just the well–known
places, created by the 'hollywood movie' standards of homeless people. Poverty is happening all around you, whether it be by the neighbors that can't
afford to buy groceries anymore, the couple downtown that has nowhere to stay because their apartment building was burned to the ground, or the
children that run away from their abusive or destructive families in desperate attempts to regain the grip of control on their life. If there has ever
been a more pressing time for the citizens of the U.S. to stand up for each other, it is now. I believe that while there are many ways to help the
homeless and assist them, but some of these solutions are not working. If we can locate the good and honest

Persuasive Essay About Helping People

  • 1. Persuasive Essay About Helping People I've always wanted to be able to help people in any type of way, even if it's something so small that means the world to them. Throughout my childhood, I've become quite accustomed to the idea of wanting to really help people; make a change to their lives in a way. When I got older, it became a little more difficult for me to be able to carry this out, since I've been working while going to school for the past three year. I started to run out of time that I could be using to help people less fortunate, that time was instead used for school and work. I decided to get in contact with my childhood friend's mother to see if she could help me out in any way. She eventually responded and she assisted me with this essay. Mrs. Whitmore has been volunteering with many projects throughout her life to help make a homeless person's/ anyone who is less fortunate day a little bit better. I asked her what made her want to start helping people in the first place. Mr. Whitmore informed me that it wasn't too far from what I had said; she always liked helping people just because, but then she wanted to do more than just being polite, so she took it to the next level and ended up making volunteer work a huge part of her life. The admiration that I have for this woman; she ended up being someone I have utmost respect for. In the email, she insisted that I volunteer at this place called Cafe 180. She told me how it's a place that cares for it's community and is a great place to get the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Everyone has their own personal problems and there are people that work behind the scenes to help solve these personal troubles. Psychologists study human behavior and counsel people in a way that will help them solve their dilemmas. There are several different fields in psychology and each field specializes in solving crises in different situations. Considering psychology as a career has several advantages such as interesting duties, excellent pay and remarkable hours. Psychologists have several interesting tasks they must be able to complete. As a professional in this field, each day will be something new. Psychotherapists observe several patients a day and each patient will bring a new challenge. Professional must be able to adapt...show more content... In order to become a psychologist a high school graduate must also receive at minimum a bachelor's degree, but most jobs require a masters or a phD. In addition the the schooling, a student must also complete a two year internship. Although going into personality study can be expensive, it is a well paying job, making it easy to pay back any student loans. Also, completing an internship can be very exciting and helpful because of the hands on work before trying to complete the needed tasks without any experience. Even though psychology has a few downfalls, along with every other occupation, it is a great job to consider and possibly pursue. A final reason to consider psychology as a career choices for the excellent work hours. A psychotherapist's schedule all depends on where he or she works. For instance, if a psychologist owns or runs their own private practice they can decide when they want to work, how much they want to work, and how hard they want to work. Some private practice owners sometimes even only work part time. On the other hand, psychologists that work for hospitals, nursery homes or other healthcare facilities generally have set schedule. This schedule can include weekends, evenings, and holidays. Similar to those who work at healthcare facilities, those who work for the government or school also have set work hours but they very rarely have to work weekends, evenings, or holidays. • 3. A Career as a Registered Nurse Essay A Registered Nurse is a person who enjoys helping other people. They practically have the responsibility for many peoples lives. What's interesting about a Registered Nurse is that they get to learn about all the parts of the human body. A Registered Nurse works in the medical field and needs to be ready with anything that comes their way. There could be a sudden death, some kind of medical issue that pops up, and even a patient just falls over and hurt themselves. As a Registered Nurse they need to be able to deal with blood, snot, vomit etc. The main thing a Registered Nurse has to be good at is being able, and wanting to help people in need. A Registered Nurse typically tends to work in a clean and healthy work environment ("Registered...show more content... para. 1). Registered Nurses should be emotionally stable, so they can help the families through rough times ("Registered Nurses" U.S. para. 47). An RN also needs to be organized, and to make sure the patient gets what they need when needed ("Registered Nurses" U.S. para. 48). All RN's will need to have the patients medical issues, and problems handy and to give the patients, and their medicines when the patients need it ("Registered Nurses" U.S. para. 8). An RN will usually records what the patient is doing, sometimes work with medical machinery, talk to doctors about the patient, and help the patient and the patient's family on how to deal with their medical problems ("Registered Nurses" U.S. para. 8). Another important thing that an RN will need is to have the physical stamina and to be ready to lift or transfer patients ("Registered Nurses" U.S. para. 49). An RN will have to be able to lift at least 10 pounds, maybe even 20 pounds ("Registered Nurse" para. 4). A person in this career should have an energy level that is somewhat high, has a skill that is interpersonal, and a knowledge that is a little scientific ("Career" para. 6). If you happen to be an RN in a nursing home, an RN will watch over the LPN's and CNA's, may start fluids for the patient, make plans for treatments, and manage the patients health Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Are People Likely To Protect Others? Many people wonder why they are left alone and without a purpose, but the solution has always been in plain sight; it is always in your best interest to aid others. If you are too focused on yourself and act as if you are the only one that matters, who would help you when you wouldn't help anyone? The reasons why it would be wise to protect others is shown throughout history and many people's lives, proven true time and time again. Standing up to injustices happening to a person can form a strong trust between you and that person, even if they are someone you never have met before. Although it is implied by parents or society that as an individual you should only concern yourself with problems that pertain to you, it is crucial that you recognize the struggles of others because of the various benefits it can provide for you. While many people believe trying to protect others will produce negativity, the actuality is that doing this allures benefits to your happiness which in turn improves your overall mental state. What I mean by mental state is how you are feeling at a certain time and whether you are thinking about a situation negatively or positively. This is where happiness plays a major role towards your state of mind, as proven by a study ran by a group of sociologists. They claimed that people who described themselves as, "very happy" volunteered in helping others or participating in community service for 5.8 hours a month. This study consisted of 2000 people Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Reflective Essay On Helping People We always talked about helping others. I noticed that you love helping people, it gives you joy to help others, and I think that's something we both share. I understand now, when you cannot help me, you don't feel the joy. In a way you feel like you can't help me and it may feel like a rejection. I am not rejecting you when you offer help and I say no. There are times where I should have asked for help and I didn't, because I thought you couldn't, which isn't an excuse, I should have given you a chance. I didn't ask for help because I was embarrassed and thought you would think less of me. I have problems with helping others and my professor actually pulled me aside from the final and wanted me to write why I felt like I need to be a savoir, and help others so much. I talked to her after class as a therapist and not a professor. I realized that what I thought was helping, was actually not. I thought all help was good and it's not. When I go out my way and help others who been helped their whole lives, I'm just feeding into what they want. I'm not letting them learn on their own, and will continue to help, and its actually not helping at all. I am guilty of doing that to you sometimes. I'm always trying to help and it's not real help and we get stuck in the same cycle. We went back and forth on this relationship, at one point you didn't want it, and I did, another point you wanted it and I didn't. There were points where we both wanted it and It was wonderful. • 6. Disabilities : People With Disabilities Essay People with Disabilities In 2012, the U.S. Census Bureau released a report that approximately 1 in every 5 Americans has a disability, which translated into almost 56.7 million people (U.S. Census Bureau, 2012). Moreover, more than half of that population was severely disabled. However, many disabled people are stigmatized and excluded from everyday activities, do not receive the required disability–related services, and are not accorded equal access to employment opportunities, education, and health care. Despite the treatment people with disabilities get from other people, disability has been recognized as a human rights issue. It also proves that people with disabilities increasingly lead poor lives and experience poor socio–economic outcomes than other people. Since disability is a human condition, the majority of the people in the world will at some point in their lives experience a permanent or temporary impairment, especially when they grow old. Disability is contested, multidimensional, dynamic, and complex and thus refers to difficulties persons encounter in the body functioning, socially, physically, and mentally. It is the term used to refer to participation restrictions, activity limitations, and physical impairments when the disabled persons interact with their contextual factors. One of the impairments afflicting people is mental retardation, which results in social, physical, speech, and learning disabilities. Mental retardation is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. The Importance Of Being An Effective Helper In these self–assessments, I have realize several things about myself and how difficult some experiences may be for me. The ideal of the first assessment, Assessing Adult Developmental Level, was to evaluate the important qualities of being an effective helper. My score was an 81 out of 120. The closer you are to 100 shows that you are more empathetic, accepting, competent, cognitively complex, and open to feedback. This assessment help me realize how open–minded and empathetic I am. I have always listen when people are talking to me. I know that everyone makes mistakes and if I want to become a Social Worker, then it is my job to help and not judge. Of course I can give them feedback and offers that can help, but it is also my job to listen before making any decisions. What I need to work on is gathering facts and information before I make a decision. Not all decision I make are going to be right. That is why I should view the problem from every angle before making a decision. In the second self–assessment, Theory and Conceptual Orientation, my highest orientation was Post–Modern. Post–Modern suggest that all reality should be questioned and your past can result to mental health problems which you can resort to therapy for help. Within this orientation, I scored the highest in narrative. Narrative suggest that the conflict that people have are created by his/her social discourse. I usually do not believe in surveys, but this one was accurate. The reason I want to become a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Motive Behind Helping People One of my strength is trying my best to help someone without expecting anything in return. Some people help others because they might receive a favor from that person one day or the person might give them money. Many people ask me what my motive behind helping people? My answer is simple, I don't help people because I have to, but I help people because I think it is a privilege that God give me to further glorify his name. One of my weakness is when I hear a parent or anybody talking bad or negative about a kid. For example, strangers might gossip about "Mrs. X kid" is such a bad kid, or "Mrs. Y" might repeatedly tell her kid, why are you so bad? Why can't you be like the other kids at school? Not knowing that words are powerful, therefore, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. My Desire And Passion For Helping Others My desire and passion for helping others is intertwine with my personal and professional life experiences. Growing up in Guatemala, a third world country, helped me become the person I am today. My first twelve years in my native country taught me lessons that changed my perspective and shaped who I am and who I want to be in the future. From a young age, I had this great admiration for nature and in Guatemala I was able to admire it. I remember endless nights looking at the stars and patiently waiting for a shooting star. Nature was my play room. Life in Guatemala was beautiful but it wasn't easy. It was not until I came to the United States that I begin to realize how much my mother had sheltered me from the violence and poverty that surrounded us. Sadly, my beautiful country is fill with corruption. The rich exploit the poor and laws are created to protect does in power regardless of their wrongdoing. In Guatemala, women are treated unequally because our society has rigid gender roles and has created a culture that takes pride in masculinity and machismo. It was well known in my small village that if a man found a female attractive and wanted her for himself he could "robarte" which translates to "steal you." My mother and many other women in my family experienced this. My father was a policeman in Guatemala and he was attracted to my mother. My mother, on the other hand, was not looking for any serious relationship because she was only 17 years old. The city closest to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Pursuing My Passion Of Helping People For the longest time I have wanted to pursue my passion of helping people. That is how I selected my major to be in Microbiology, so I can move on and eventually get into medical school. After a year and a half have passed, I decided that I wanted to continue pursuing my passion in business as well. While attending UNR my first year, I was greatly frustrated because while being majored in Biology, I also tookbusiness courses for my Entrepreneurship minor. As days pass by, I am currently thinking about swapping my major into the business field. After completing the survey answering everything honestly, the results showed all business related positions. Now, I did have the opportunity to manipulate the factors that gave these results, but I honestly believe that these positions fit what I should be aiming for. After the completion of the survey, the four positions I decided to select from the list included "Marketing Manager, Public Relations Manager, Events Manager, Medical Sales Representative." Although my major may not follow along these results, they do follow along who I believe I am as a person. I decided to prioritize the jobs in order from, what job I believe I would most fit to the job that I would least recommend for myself. The first job I chose off the list was the position of Marketing manager. A marketing manager carries the position of actually using strategized techniques that involve manipulating and giving ideas on how to set the price of certain products Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. The Importance of Helping Others One time I had to help my friend Louie. We had been at my house and he forgot to turn his lights off in his old pickup. He went to start it and it would not turn over, he realized that he left his lights on. I brought my pickup over to try and jump start his pickup. I wasted a quarter tank of gas revving up my truck to try to provide more power. At this point we gave up, we then realized that we could roll start his pickup. I pulled his truck with my truck up the bump to my sloped driveway. He got rolling, popped the clutch, and off he went. Being able to help someone is a great advantage in life. BeoWulf is placed on the spectrum somewhere toward the top between robin hood and man in the water because he was very courageous and strong but he did not give the ultimate gift like man in the water but he was not acting evil as Robin Hood was. The Man in the Water showed great generosity when it comes to human nature which put him at the top of the spectrum. There is a difference between Man in the Water and BeoWulf because BeoWulf is not as high up as Man in the water is on the spectrum. The evidence that I have shown on Man in the Water shows that this man was willing to risk everything for complete strangers. It shows me that this man is willing to do anything for his fellow man and he is a true hero. This man is on the top of the spectrum in every way possible. He is at the top because he gave the greatest gift possible, and continued to give it to everyone till he died for his good deeds. The spectrum contains good and bad characters and this man was definitely very good. In Robin Hood Robin's actions put him on both ends of the spectrum he is good Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Supporting the Elderly Essay As adults the transition into old age can be difficult for some people. Frustration, lack of responsibility and dependence can make the process of aging undesirable. Old age should be viewed as another phase of life, but not the end of life. In order to help elderly cope with aging it is important for them to have social interaction. Support from family, friends and the local community can make a difference in the psychological well being of older adults. There is great concern for the increasing amount of elderly people without children. Childlessness can not be directly linked to loneliness and depression in the elderly, but there is some evidence that it can have an effect on their psychological well being. According to an article...show more content... Although the main effects of childlessness are minimal in this study for older persons, it can not be ruled out that childlessness has no direct effect on the psychological wellbeing of older people. The aspect of well being can differ, but is still important for rural elderly. An article in Sex Roles, "Compared to their urban counterparts, rural elders experience significant threats to their economic, physical, and psychological well–being" (Patrick, Cortells, and Barnes, 1993.) Factors such as age, gender, education, income, and marital status, can be predictors of well–being. More important though is social support. Socialization differences in men and women can produce varying results of positive or negative well being. Women are more emotionally supportive and have a larger network of support. Men do not rely on friends as much and are more withdrawn. In the article, Gender, emotional support, and well–being among the rural elderly, a study was done to determine the association among emotional support and well–being as well as gender differences. Evidence from the study demonstrates "Women and those perceiving less emotional support from family were more likely to report high levels of negative affect." (Patrick, Cortells, and Barnes, 1993.) • 13. Why Do People Help Others? Essay To discuss why people help others we must consider whether people are by nature selfless or selfish. The dominant view today in psychology is of universal egoism; that we are fundamentally selfish, and that altruism (helping motivated by the wish to benefit another person) an impossibility. One form of universal egoism is Piliavin et al's "arousal: cost–reward" model, whereby faced with a potential helping situation we weigh the probable costs and rewards of alternative courses of action, then arrive at a decision which produces the best outcome for ourselves.Darley and Batson (1973) conducted an experiment into the effect of the cost time in the decision to offer help. This suggests that we are less likely to help those with the least genes in common with us.Chagnon & Bugos (1979), in an analysis of fighting in Southern Venezuela, found that the likelihood of a person helping another was strongly correlated with their genetic relatedness to the person. However, how do we account for cases of altruism on the part of animals who are not related? This could be explained by the fact that all members of a species have an element of shared genes even if not at all closely related. Trivers (1971), however, proposed the principle of delayed reciprocal altruism, whereby animals return favours, therefore helpful behaviour is worthwhile because it is likely to be returned. For example, Packer (1977) observed that male baboons which assisted another male in courting were more likely to receive this help in return. Batson (1987), in contradiction with universal egoism proposed the "empathy–altruism" hypothesis. He saw helping as the result of feeling empathy (experiencing another's emotions). By experimentally manipulating the degree to which his subjects experienced empathy or personal distress in a potential helping situation Batson showed that empathetically aroused Get more content on HelpWriting.net

But these are just the well–known places, created by the 'hollywood movie' standards of homeless people. Poverty is happening all around you, whether it be by the neighbors that can't afford to buy groceries anymore, the couple downtown that has nowhere to stay because their apartment building was burned to the ground, or the children that run away from their abusive or destructive families in desperate attempts to regain the grip of control on their life. If there has ever been a more pressing time for the citizens of the U.S. to stand up for each other, it is now.
