Is Fast Food to Blame for Obesity?
Having a body mass index above 30 is considered obese (Williams). According to Sarah Muntel, a registered dietitian, "33.8% of the United States
population is affected by obesity and 19% of children and adolescents are also affected." Depending on who you ask, there are a variety of reasons why
obesity is such a big problem today. It is a simple fact that we now exercise less and eat more processed foods than we did 30 years ago (Williams). It
is obvious that obesity is a growing problem in today's society. Many try to blame the fast food industry, when in reality there are many other factors
that cause obesity.
People should not blame fast food restaurants for obesity; they are just giving consumers what they want (Williams). If fast food restaurants removed
all unhealthy choices from their menus and made everything healthy, food would not taste as good and it would cost more. These restaurants would
not have nearly as many customers, which in turn means they would be making no money. We can't really blame them for providing what people
want, especially since "Convenience, along with affordability and taste has always been a primary driver of fast food's success"...show more content...
Other factors can include people's lack of responsibility to take care of themselves, and fast paced life styles that can prevent people from eating
healthy. Expert in the nutrition field Jim Dock states that "cleaning up the quick– serve industry's name starts with consumers understanding the role its
food plays in their weekly diets" (qtd. in "Winning the Blame Game"). We need to stop dancing around the idea of obesity, but instead take a step to
change our daily lives for the better. Williams stated a simple fact that we all know to be true "We must do what we have always known we should
do; eat well, eat less, and

Obesity can be defined as, "a health condition of being grossly fat or overweight." This disease is spread throughout the world and is especially
common in the United States. Obesity can lead to many other illnesses like diabetes, heart attacks, high blood pressure, etc. Even though this condition
can be deadly, there are many different methods to prevent it. Obesity has greatly impacted America. Instead of trying to find a cure for obesity, we
can focus on educating people on ways that steer away from this unhealthy lifestyle.
To begin with, obesity has become a huge problem and it is currently not getting any better. According to Robert Johnson, "Obesity rates have doubled
among adults and more than tripled among children since the 1980s." Human health continues to decline throughout the years and if there is not a
change taking place, more people will become victim to this deadly medical condition. Another issue that Wood states is that, "The obesity crisis costs
our nation more than $150 billion in healthcare costs annually6 and billions of dollars more in lost productivity." This is money being wasted on a
condition that can be prevented by changing one's lifestyle. This is money that can be better spent somewhere else instead of wasting it on something
that many people can control themselves. "Obesity may increase the risk of many health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and certain
cancers" (Health Risks of Being Overweight). These are just a few of the

America has directly felt the aftershock of having the overwhelming amount of fast food restaurants and bad diets as the millennial's are dying from
obesity or related diseases. A well known disease is called obesity, an excessive accumulation and storage of fat, which is linked to health problems.
Obesity as well for additional corresponding diseases have recently increased over the years. The misconceptions of diagnosing Obesity by just

When being overweight, taking little steps is easier than running, so let's start with the first step in obesity prevention. The emotional distress young
adults can be feeling when they are overweight is only the first step leading to serious health disorders, and possibly suicide. Good health starts with
good nutrition, and good health gives physical and mental benefits in daily life. Trends, as young adults know, bring changes, and the whole "America
being known the #1 obese country in the world" trend, must be terminated. It's imperative in remembrance that teens have different nutritional needs
than adults. Their bodies are going through many changes that impact their physical and emotional well being, and will affect their health later on as
young adults grow older. Each person is different, and every individual has a different necessity, tolerance levels, beliefs, strengths, and weaknesses.
It's good to embrace them all, but share the same responsibilities. And that responsibility is taking care of oneself to take care of others. How can
society, possibly give care when they can't seem to care for themselves? Take every step into consideration; have the responsibility to be an informed
consumer, know family health history, maintain a balanced, healthy lifestyle, schedule medical checkups regularly, and be aware of disease symptoms.
Being young only lasts for so long, and young adults don't seem to realize how fortunate they truly are until they have

Imagine laying in bed and wanting to get up, but it is no longer possible. Obesity has been a cause of stopping people to be able to do certain
physical activities and daily tasks. It slowly made its way to America, when parents would work long hours and kids were left alone at home.
When it came to dinner, parents just wanted something easy and fast to feed their families, but not focusing on what was in the food. It was all
about if the food tasted good, but not if it was good for the body. This caused the rise of obesity along with Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure,
heart failure and more. The future leaders of this country should start coming up with solutions to fix this obesity problem and asking the question,
if fast food business are culpable? Americans need to stop taking one more bit of the laden burger that can be a closer step to their death.
Millennials need to learn more about the importance of person responsibility to stop America's problem with obesity and obesity related diseases. A
significant percentage of obesity in America has increased throughout the years and it is not getting any better. Obesity is when a person who is
unhealthily overweight, which makes the person start dealing with health issues. Obese people tend to be diagnosed with many diseases because of

I think the reason we have a big obesity problem is because too many people are eating unhealthy food, not exercising, and not being active. All they
do is sit inside, eat junk and watch TV and movies all day. People are also eating at non healthy fast food places instead of eating good healthy meals.
News–medical.net said Studies have shown that over the past four decades, consumption of food eaten away from home has also risen alarmingly. It
is well known that eating out may lead to excess calorie intake and increases the risk of obesity because of large portion sizes and increased energy
density of foods. Studies have shown that this rise of obesity among the world's population could be attributed to an increase in calorie intake coupled
with lack of adequate physical activity. Bariatric surgery source said that how frequently individuals visit fast food restaurants is directly correlated
with their weight. According to a 15–year study of 3,000 adults, people who visited fast food restaurants more than twice per week gained roughly 9
to 11 pounds (4 to 5 kg) more than people who visited them less than once per week. Pathway genomics said that most of the fast food contains a
large amount of sugar, fats and carbs and less minerals and vitamins. This means that you are taking in large amount of unhealthy calories in the shape
of fast food which leads to weight gain and ultimately obesity. Most of the fast foods have exceeding levels of sugar and fats which are directly

If you can prolong your life, and make yourself feel better about who you are then why not overcome this overweight issue. In today's world we are
facing an epidemic that seems to be affecting even are young at an early age. We all know that obesity can have adverse effects on health, well–being,
and relationship, and can be solved by eating organic food, exercising, and discipline. We are here to find out the different causes of obesity, and
find out what we can do to overcome this fast growing epidemic. "Although people in the Unites States might not be eating more, they are gaining
weight. According to the U.S Department of Agriculture, fat consumption by people in the United States has declined during past decades, but
calorie expenditure has gone down as well. Adults are not burning the calories they are consuming, and as a result, obesity rates increased by 214
percent between 1950 and 2000. Two out of every three people in the U.S. were obese or overweight in 2010". (Bird, 2011, March 26, p.1). They
are several solutions that can be implemented to these causes, and some are individual, community, and government solutions. I feel it is everyone's
own responsibility to make they maintain their own health. Obesity could occur in all humans, obesity does not care what race you are or even the
time you have lived in. "Ancient Egyptians are said to consider obesity as a disease, having been drawn in a wall of depicted illnesses". "The Aztecs

Imagine a world where people can not go outside because their body is not able to move because of how much people weigh and need to stay
inside where machines are helping monitor the health of the body. If the obesity epidemic and obesity related disease don't stop now that is how
the future world will look like for the next generation and it does not seem nice. Back in the 1970's people would have never expected a future
like that because it was all about healthy foods and exercising regularly. Now in 2017 it is all about eating at fast food restaurants and binge
watching shows on Netflix. Many people's mentality today is why go outside to exercise when there is technology as entertainment where the gossip
and entertainment is at? People fail to realize that lying on the couch or in bed after eating is a higher risk for obesity. Personal responsibility is what
people are failing to accept when it comes to obesity, blaming others for something people can become educated about seems easier. The media is also
at fault for all the propaganda about unhealthy fast food, and not the healthy food that benefits the persons body. 18–26 year–olds have the chance to
change this generation's mentality about obesity and change the future generation alongside the media who should change what is being advertised and
make the people choose a healthier and better option.
Dating back to the 70s, kids have either gone home to home cooked meals or to nothing at all. Parents were not able to prepare any food for their
children since both parents, or a single parent, had to work to provide for the family. Additionally, frozen foods were seen as a shortcut to help
parents prepare meals for their children. Obviously, fast food was the next option for parents to provide a quick, affordable source of food and
home cooked meals were seen as a thing in the past as fast food chains appealed to children with bigger portions. In the article Don't Blame The
Eater by David Zinczenko, Zinczenko states "These were the only available options for an American kid to get an affordable meal."(3) It was the

Obesity is defined as a health condition in which your body has an excess tissue fat. According to the article "The State of Childhood Obesity" , in the
united States around more than 12 million children are suffering from obesity which is one out of every six children. In addition, obesity can cause
many health problems and because of this we should encourage healthier eating in our school by affording healthy lunches ,proving classes for parent
to inform them of how to implement a balance healthy food and increasing exercise in students. Pathos :Why should we encourage children to eat
healthy? Well as the center for disease control and prevention stated "Childhood obesity has immediate and long–term impacts on physical, social, and
emotional health".Also children with obesity have a higher risk of having an early death. This is not the only problem that children with obesity
suffer, they also suffer from bullying which is one of the main problems in the world. By motivating students to eat healthier we could provide a
better and happy life for them. Ethos : One of the main causes of obesity is consuming an excess of calories. As it was stated in the article called Kids

Obesity in the U.S. is a major problem. The obese population is growing rapidly.
There are many different steps in preventing obesity. Obesity should not be taken lightly because people are at serious risks. Being overweight can
also be genetic, Which means people can't help being overweight. If a person is just over eating they have all the power to lose weight. People need
to exercise, eat healthy, and being obese can lead to serious health problems.
Exercise is a great way to stay in shape. Exercising can keep people slimmer.
For example, people people can exercise anywhere, they do not need a gym membership to exercise. People can exercise just by walking more and ever
doing simple exercises at home. For instance, If people want to work at a gym, they should be...show more content...

Eating healthy is a big part of everyone's day to day lives. People need to eat better meals. One way people can eat healthier is by eating at home. For
instance, eating at home is more healthy than eating out. Eating out can lead to being overweight.
Likewise, "Many people realize that they can get a value meal at numerous fastÐ’food restaurants for far less money than it takes to purchase foods to
make a healthy meal for their family" (Mercola). According to Dr. Mercola people would rather get food faster and cheaper than to actually make a
home cooked meal. When people are on the go or very busy they do not have time to actually make a meal. In order to help people eat healthier,
restaurants and fast food chains are going to need to have a better healthier section. Most fast food chains will have healthy section that is the smallest
part on their menu's. Those fast food chains should make their healthy section bigger than. Another, by eating at home people can make their meals as
they wish. People need to slow down and make time to eat at home. By eating at home it becomes cheaper than

Eating healthy and exercising often, the two things seen as key against fighting obesity. While these are very important, they are not the only tools in
the fight against obesity. Before we can rely solely on eating healthy and daily exercise, we need to reform how the issue of obesity is being attacked.
Childhood obesity has become an exponentially growing epidemic that has no evidence of stopping anytime soon. The government needs to step in and
help with the fight because of food deserts, faulty advertising, and nutrition guidelines, which are all factors out of the public's control. Once we figure
out these issues, the real fight can begin.
Most people come to the debate over childhood obesity with an argument based on the facts that people should "eat healthier" and "exercise more"
and they will be just fine. While this is not only false in some cases, it is also not possible in certain areas of the U.S. Some areas of the United
States are what we call "food deserts" which means that there is a lack/unavailability of fresh and healthy foods to these areas. Due to this, people
who live in these areas are forced to live on either very unhealthy, cheap foods or, drive very far out of their ways to get healthier food, which
becomes very expensive, very fast. If the government were to step in and implement programs to help get fresh, nutritious food to these areas, a
significant impact would be made in the fight against obesity. By giving accessibility to healthier food options people living in these areas will not
only find it easier to lose weight and lead a healthier lifestyle but, eating healthy also leads to better concentration, improved performance in the
workplace, and higher energy levels giving a better standard of living. You can't simply tell someone to "eat healthier" when they do not have access
to these supplies, which is why our government needs to step in and make these food deserts into food oases.
When walking in a grocery store it is easy to notice how the candy, sugary cereals, and junk food stand out from the organic, non–gmo, healthy foods.

A Deeper Look into Childhood Obesity The percentage of children with obesity in the United States has more than tripled since the 1970s ("Healthy
Schools."). Childhood obesity is a medical condition that affects children and teenagers who contain excess body fat. This condition is very common
today, having about 3 million cases per year ("Healthy Schools."). A sign that a child is suffering from obesity is when their weight is well above the
average for a child's height and age. Today about one in five school children, ages 6–19, are obese ("Healthy Schools."). I will be addressing the causes,
health complications, treatments, controversy, and supporting obese students. First and foremost, the most common causes of childhood obesity are
genetic factors, overeating, and not exercising enough. Although obesity may run in a family, it does not determine whether a child will be obese or
not ("Obesity in Children"). If a child who comes from a family of obesity, happens to become overweight like them, the likely cause is due to bad
eating and activity habits. Many children today spend more time inside the house eating and watching television, rather than being active outdoors
("Obesity in Children"). This is due to the recent popularity of having electronics such as television, games, and phones serve as entertainment.
Another reason for the excessive eating is because parents are often too busy to cook healthy foods on a regular basis, leaving children to rely on fast
food or

Adolescents don't aren't cautions of the things they eat and are experiencing obesity problems that can lead to a shorter life sentence. People have lost
interest on their calorie intake which is now becoming a danger. Aside of that there are more consequences to an unhealthy body. Most people question
whether checking and limiting themselves to certain foods is healthy. Obesity is becoming more of a problem in the United States. These problems are
mostly triggered by low income. Young adults between the ages 18–26 should be aware of the dangers and health problems of obesity. Therefore,
people should reduce the consumption of fast food, organic foods' prices should lower to an affordable price, and calorie count should commence.
Most people don't know when they are considered "obese". Once a person is 30 lbs overweight they are obese. According to the MNT Editorial
Team on What is Obesity? "A person is obese if his/her body weight is at least 20% higher than it should be. Obesity is excess of adipose tissue;
also known as fat in the body. Obesity is leading to mortality, disability, and health care utilization. People tend to need more assistance or health care

With more than 12 million American children, ages two to 19, who are either overweight or obese, it may come as no surprise that parents and
doctors may be a bit shy to talk about the issue. But it's an issue that desperately needs discussing. Many parents may either be in denial about their
child's weight or just too embarrassed about it to ask the pediatrician about it. Many may wait to bring it up when the child's doctor starts the
discussion. Doctors have to approach the conversation rather sensitively so they don't insult the parent and/or child. In a recent survey by Rudd Center
for Food Policy and Obesity at Yale University, researchers found parents would rather have the doctor tell them "let's talk about your child's weight",

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends body mass index or BMI screening starting at age two, so it's a good idea to talk with your

as well as the family's eating and exercise habits. There are questions parents should ask if they're considered with their child's weight, and they vary
with age groups. For preschoolers, the focus is on the family's eating habits. So parents should ask about how to help your child learn healthy habits,
examples of healthy snacks, and appropriate portion sizes for children. If your child is overweight when they're in elementary school, your doctor may
recommend ways to maintain their weight to allow them to grow into the extra pounds. But many parents may want to ask about ways to get your child

Obesity is a very serious subject that a lot of people take lightly, especially us as Americans. America is the most obese country in the world.
Statistics show that 300,000 people die a day in the United States of America due to obesity. This clearly shows that we have a serious problem that
is massively underestimated. Obesity is also something that countries all across the world suffer from. For example, Australia is also one of the
most obese countries in the world, and 50,000 people die a year from obesity in Australia. That's 140 people who die per day in Australia. To solve the
problem of obesity the prices of junk food should be raised and the prices of healthy food should be lowered and more convenient.
Obesity is something that a huge fraction of people in the United States suffers from. 160 million adult Americans suffer from obesity, and many kids
suffer from it as well. Sometimes people focus so much on adults that they tend to forget kids. Kids usually suffer from obesity because they are not
active.
Portions have grown over the years. Statistics show that Americans consumed about 2,160 calories a day, in 1970. Today Americans consume about
2,673 calorie. Foods had much less calories and they did not contain as much fat or anything like that. Cheeseburgers once had 333 calories and now
they have 590 calories. In 1970, soda was 6oz, and now one bottle of coke is 20oz. It has more than doubled in just a short period of time. Americans
today consume 25% more

Obesity is a growing epidemic in the American people, but what is the root of this seemingly unavoidable problem? According to David Zinczenko, it
is the failings of the American society, but in the opinion of Radley Balko, it's the facilitation of the government's support and the failure to take
self–responsibility from the people themselves. They both have an opinion as to what the cause of obesity in America, but Zinczenko has the better
argument. Through the use of real–life examples, refutation, and sound logic/reasoning Zinczenko writes a more persuasive piece than Balko.

He uses information that can be gathered by reading the newspaper. Where is his credibility? He uses information gathered by other non–experts, like
himself, to justify his opinions. In his essay, Balko says, "All of the Democrat candidates for president boasted plans to push health care further into
the public sector. More and more, states are preventing private health insurers from charging overweight and obese clients higher premiums, which
effectively removes any financial incentive for maintaining a healthy lifestyle." (Balko 467). He chooses to blame the government for the failures of
society. These ideas are not well supported and prove to be juvenile at best. The government is attempting to look after it's people by supporting them
through whatever health issues they may have. The government did not make people obese. Sure, it has enabled large fast–food corporations to grow
and expand throughout the entire country, but society has done the same. There is no one person or thing to blame for the failings of America. The
choices American society has made, as a whole, are what has failed the American people. Zinczenko uses multiple relatable real–life examples to refute
Balko's beliefs of government failure through enabling and people's lack of responsibility. These refutations is what helps to create Zinczenko's
powerful argument. Zinczenko writes many refutations in his essay that help to drive his argument home. He acknowledges

Obesity Persuasive Essay

  • 1. Obesity Persuasive Essay Ashton Rigsbee A. Williamson English 4 March 20th, 2015 Is Fast Food to Blame for Obesity? Having a body mass index above 30 is considered obese (Williams). According to Sarah Muntel, a registered dietitian, "33.8% of the United States population is affected by obesity and 19% of children and adolescents are also affected." Depending on who you ask, there are a variety of reasons why obesity is such a big problem today. It is a simple fact that we now exercise less and eat more processed foods than we did 30 years ago (Williams). It is obvious that obesity is a growing problem in today's society. Many try to blame the fast food industry, when in reality there are many other factors that cause obesity. People should not blame fast food restaurants for obesity; they are just giving consumers what they want (Williams). If fast food restaurants removed all unhealthy choices from their menus and made everything healthy, food would not taste as good and it would cost more. These restaurants would not have nearly as many customers, which in turn means they would be making no money. We can't really blame them for providing what people want, especially since "Convenience, along with affordability and taste has always been a primary driver of fast food's success"...show more content... Other factors can include people's lack of responsibility to take care of themselves, and fast paced life styles that can prevent people from eating healthy. Expert in the nutrition field Jim Dock states that "cleaning up the quick– serve industry's name starts with consumers understanding the role its food plays in their weekly diets" (qtd. in "Winning the Blame Game"). We need to stop dancing around the idea of obesity, but instead take a step to change our daily lives for the better. Williams stated a simple fact that we all know to be true "We must do what we have always known we should do; eat well, eat less, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Obesity Obesity can be defined as, "a health condition of being grossly fat or overweight." This disease is spread throughout the world and is especially common in the United States. Obesity can lead to many other illnesses like diabetes, heart attacks, high blood pressure, etc. Even though this condition can be deadly, there are many different methods to prevent it. Obesity has greatly impacted America. Instead of trying to find a cure for obesity, we can focus on educating people on ways that steer away from this unhealthy lifestyle. To begin with, obesity has become a huge problem and it is currently not getting any better. According to Robert Johnson, "Obesity rates have doubled among adults and more than tripled among children since the 1980s." Human health continues to decline throughout the years and if there is not a change taking place, more people will become victim to this deadly medical condition. Another issue that Wood states is that, "The obesity crisis costs our nation more than $150 billion in healthcare costs annually6 and billions of dollars more in lost productivity." This is money being wasted on a condition that can be prevented by changing one's lifestyle. This is money that can be better spent somewhere else instead of wasting it on something that many people can control themselves. "Obesity may increase the risk of many health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers" (Health Risks of Being Overweight). These are just a few of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Persuasive Essay On Obesity America has directly felt the aftershock of having the overwhelming amount of fast food restaurants and bad diets as the millennial's are dying from obesity or related diseases. A well known disease is called obesity, an excessive accumulation and storage of fat, which is linked to health problems. Obesity as well for additional corresponding diseases have recently increased over the years. The misconceptions of diagnosing Obesity by just appearance is no longer the case in this society. Food industries have shown food nutrition, however are still discreet about how much or what is within the meal creating an person to intake more than the recommended calories. The government is not enforcing law, regulations allowing these food industries to manipulate consumers. The availability of education can allow consumers to become more aware of this issue. The individual responsibility is needed to produce a healthier lifestyle by knowing the risks, and understanding the issue that taking place. This problem is due to lack of individual responsibility, little government involvement, and no education, now it is up to young adolescents to save their generation before it's endangered due to obesity. 1970's was an era that traditionally had homemade meals where the family would gather around the table to eat, however fast–food industries would create a shift in our nation's lifestyle. As mother's began to start working they would be coming home tired and late creating them to no Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Obesity When being overweight, taking little steps is easier than running, so let's start with the first step in obesity prevention. The emotional distress young adults can be feeling when they are overweight is only the first step leading to serious health disorders, and possibly suicide. Good health starts with good nutrition, and good health gives physical and mental benefits in daily life. Trends, as young adults know, bring changes, and the whole "America being known the #1 obese country in the world" trend, must be terminated. It's imperative in remembrance that teens have different nutritional needs than adults. Their bodies are going through many changes that impact their physical and emotional well being, and will affect their health later on as young adults grow older. Each person is different, and every individual has a different necessity, tolerance levels, beliefs, strengths, and weaknesses. It's good to embrace them all, but share the same responsibilities. And that responsibility is taking care of oneself to take care of others. How can society, possibly give care when they can't seem to care for themselves? Take every step into consideration; have the responsibility to be an informed consumer, know family health history, maintain a balanced, healthy lifestyle, schedule medical checkups regularly, and be aware of disease symptoms. Being young only lasts for so long, and young adults don't seem to realize how fortunate they truly are until they have Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Obesity Persuasive Speech The kids are hungry so their Mom pulls into the nearest drive through and it goes like this...Welcome to McDonalds drive through can I take your order. Yes, I will have two chicken nugget happy meals and a Big Mac. Would you like to combo that up with a pop and fries. Sure. How about upsizing your order to a big fry for only 59 cents more? Another sure, and Mom is heading home with dinner. Ladies and gentlemen I am here today to share with you my input on the vast increasing population of children that are becoming obese today. It is an issue not usually discussed or considered to be an issue in today's society but I feel is a huge concern in our country. Being obese affects you physically and increases the risk of developing life threatening...show more content... (www.phac–aspc.gc.ca) " Research has shown that: heavier mothers tend to have heavier babies, which is associated with obesity later in life; children are more likely to be over weight or obese if they have overweight or obese parents and over–nutrition at a young age can have a lifelong effect on obesity." (www.phac–aspc.gc.ca) Child obesity is seen most often among poorer families because they do not have the money to provide their children with healthy food choices and physical activity opportunities such as playing on a house league soccer team. (www.phac–aspc.gc.ca) I stayed fit and active during my childhood because of all the physical activities my parents afforded for me as a child. Without three healthy meals and participation in some sort of physical activity daily it is hard for a child to stay fit. The worldwide chains of fast food restaurants such as McDonalds are large factors in child obesity. Obese people have specifically blamed fast–food chains like McDonalds for their condition. (39) Although McDonalds does not present you with a variety of healthy food choices when it comes time to order, you are the one that made the decision to stop by McDonalds on your way home from work instead of making a healthy meal at home. The more advertisement on TV persuading children to buy their food the more likely a child is to want McDonald's and possibly Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Persuasive Essay About Obesity Imagine laying in bed and wanting to get up, but it is no longer possible. Obesity has been a cause of stopping people to be able to do certain physical activities and daily tasks. It slowly made its way to America, when parents would work long hours and kids were left alone at home. When it came to dinner, parents just wanted something easy and fast to feed their families, but not focusing on what was in the food. It was all about if the food tasted good, but not if it was good for the body. This caused the rise of obesity along with Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart failure and more. The future leaders of this country should start coming up with solutions to fix this obesity problem and asking the question, if fast food business are culpable? Americans need to stop taking one more bit of the laden burger that can be a closer step to their death. Millennials need to learn more about the importance of person responsibility to stop America's problem with obesity and obesity related diseases. A significant percentage of obesity in America has increased throughout the years and it is not getting any better. Obesity is when a person who is unhealthily overweight, which makes the person start dealing with health issues. Obese people tend to be diagnosed with many diseases because of the weight and are at a higher risk than most people. One of theses diseases are Type 2 diabetes, before people would be diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes if the person had a genetic Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Persuasive Essay On Obesity I think the reason we have a big obesity problem is because too many people are eating unhealthy food, not exercising, and not being active. All they do is sit inside, eat junk and watch TV and movies all day. People are also eating at non healthy fast food places instead of eating good healthy meals. News–medical.net said Studies have shown that over the past four decades, consumption of food eaten away from home has also risen alarmingly. It is well known that eating out may lead to excess calorie intake and increases the risk of obesity because of large portion sizes and increased energy density of foods. Studies have shown that this rise of obesity among the world's population could be attributed to an increase in calorie intake coupled with lack of adequate physical activity. Bariatric surgery source said that how frequently individuals visit fast food restaurants is directly correlated with their weight. According to a 15–year study of 3,000 adults, people who visited fast food restaurants more than twice per week gained roughly 9 to 11 pounds (4 to 5 kg) more than people who visited them less than once per week. Pathway genomics said that most of the fast food contains a large amount of sugar, fats and carbs and less minerals and vitamins. This means that you are taking in large amount of unhealthy calories in the shape of fast food which leads to weight gain and ultimately obesity. Most of the fast foods have exceeding levels of sugar and fats which are directly Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Persuasive Essay About Obesity If you can prolong your life, and make yourself feel better about who you are then why not overcome this overweight issue. In today's world we are facing an epidemic that seems to be affecting even are young at an early age. We all know that obesity can have adverse effects on health, well–being, and relationship, and can be solved by eating organic food, exercising, and discipline. We are here to find out the different causes of obesity, and find out what we can do to overcome this fast growing epidemic. "Although people in the Unites States might not be eating more, they are gaining weight. According to the U.S Department of Agriculture, fat consumption by people in the United States has declined during past decades, but calorie expenditure has gone down as well. Adults are not burning the calories they are consuming, and as a result, obesity rates increased by 214 percent between 1950 and 2000. Two out of every three people in the U.S. were obese or overweight in 2010". (Bird, 2011, March 26, p.1). They are several solutions that can be implemented to these causes, and some are individual, community, and government solutions. I feel it is everyone's own responsibility to make they maintain their own health. Obesity could occur in all humans, obesity does not care what race you are or even the time you have lived in. "Ancient Egyptians are said to consider obesity as a disease, having been drawn in a wall of depicted illnesses". "The Aztecs believed that obesity was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Persuasive Essay About Obesity Imagine a world where people can not go outside because their body is not able to move because of how much people weigh and need to stay inside where machines are helping monitor the health of the body. If the obesity epidemic and obesity related disease don't stop now that is how the future world will look like for the next generation and it does not seem nice. Back in the 1970's people would have never expected a future like that because it was all about healthy foods and exercising regularly. Now in 2017 it is all about eating at fast food restaurants and binge watching shows on Netflix. Many people's mentality today is why go outside to exercise when there is technology as entertainment where the gossip and entertainment is at? People fail to realize that lying on the couch or in bed after eating is a higher risk for obesity. Personal responsibility is what people are failing to accept when it comes to obesity, blaming others for something people can become educated about seems easier. The media is also at fault for all the propaganda about unhealthy fast food, and not the healthy food that benefits the persons body. 18–26 year–olds have the chance to change this generation's mentality about obesity and change the future generation alongside the media who should change what is being advertised and make the people choose a healthier and better option. Dating back to the 70s, kids have either gone home to home cooked meals or to nothing at all. Parents were not able to prepare any food for their children since both parents, or a single parent, had to work to provide for the family. Additionally, frozen foods were seen as a shortcut to help parents prepare meals for their children. Obviously, fast food was the next option for parents to provide a quick, affordable source of food and home cooked meals were seen as a thing in the past as fast food chains appealed to children with bigger portions. In the article Don't Blame The Eater by David Zinczenko, Zinczenko states "These were the only available options for an American kid to get an affordable meal."(3) It was the easiest way to a meal than having a late dinner. Plus with no nutrition facts on the back of a food's packaging, the consumer would not know Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Persuasive Essay On Obesity Obesity is defined as a health condition in which your body has an excess tissue fat. According to the article "The State of Childhood Obesity" , in the united States around more than 12 million children are suffering from obesity which is one out of every six children. In addition, obesity can cause many health problems and because of this we should encourage healthier eating in our school by affording healthy lunches ,proving classes for parent to inform them of how to implement a balance healthy food and increasing exercise in students. Pathos :Why should we encourage children to eat healthy? Well as the center for disease control and prevention stated "Childhood obesity has immediate and long–term impacts on physical, social, and emotional health".Also children with obesity have a higher risk of having an early death. This is not the only problem that children with obesity suffer, they also suffer from bullying which is one of the main problems in the world. By motivating students to eat healthier we could provide a better and happy life for them. Ethos : One of the main causes of obesity is consuming an excess of calories. As it was stated in the article called Kids health by Mary L,Gavin ,most school–age kid should confume around 2,200 to 1,600 calories per day which in reality they consume more calories that what they are supposed to eat. By proving healthy lunches in schools childrens would learn what food should they consume. Also if we provide healthy Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Obesity Persuasive Essay Obesity in the U.S. is a major problem. The obese population is growing rapidly. There are many different steps in preventing obesity. Obesity should not be taken lightly because people are at serious risks. Being overweight can also be genetic, Which means people can't help being overweight. If a person is just over eating they have all the power to lose weight. People need to exercise, eat healthy, and being obese can lead to serious health problems. Exercise is a great way to stay in shape. Exercising can keep people slimmer. For example, people people can exercise anywhere, they do not need a gym membership to exercise. People can exercise just by walking more and ever doing simple exercises at home. For instance, If people want to work at a gym, they should be...show more content... They could even jog if they got enough courage to allow their neighbors to see them exercise. Eating healthy is a big part of everyone's day to day lives. People need to eat better meals. One way people can eat healthier is by eating at home. For instance, eating at home is more healthy than eating out. Eating out can lead to being overweight. Likewise, "Many people realize that they can get a value meal at numerous fastÐ’food restaurants for far less money than it takes to purchase foods to make a healthy meal for their family" (Mercola). According to Dr. Mercola people would rather get food faster and cheaper than to actually make a home cooked meal. When people are on the go or very busy they do not have time to actually make a meal. In order to help people eat healthier, restaurants and fast food chains are going to need to have a better healthier section. Most fast food chains will have healthy section that is the smallest part on their menu's. Those fast food chains should make their healthy section bigger than. Another, by eating at home people can make their meals as they wish. People need to slow down and make time to eat at home. • 12. Persuasive Essay On Obesity Eating healthy and exercising often, the two things seen as key against fighting obesity. While these are very important, they are not the only tools in the fight against obesity. Before we can rely solely on eating healthy and daily exercise, we need to reform how the issue of obesity is being attacked. Childhood obesity has become an exponentially growing epidemic that has no evidence of stopping anytime soon. The government needs to step in and help with the fight because of food deserts, faulty advertising, and nutrition guidelines, which are all factors out of the public's control. Once we figure out these issues, the real fight can begin. Most people come to the debate over childhood obesity with an argument based on the facts that people should "eat healthier" and "exercise more" and they will be just fine. While this is not only false in some cases, it is also not possible in certain areas of the U.S. Some areas of the United States are what we call "food deserts" which means that there is a lack/unavailability of fresh and healthy foods to these areas. Due to this, people who live in these areas are forced to live on either very unhealthy, cheap foods or, drive very far out of their ways to get healthier food, which becomes very expensive, very fast. If the government were to step in and implement programs to help get fresh, nutritious food to these areas, a significant impact would be made in the fight against obesity. By giving accessibility to healthier food options people living in these areas will not only find it easier to lose weight and lead a healthier lifestyle but, eating healthy also leads to better concentration, improved performance in the workplace, and higher energy levels giving a better standard of living. You can't simply tell someone to "eat healthier" when they do not have access to these supplies, which is why our government needs to step in and make these food deserts into food oases. When walking in a grocery store it is easy to notice how the candy, sugary cereals, and junk food stand out from the organic, non–gmo, healthy foods. Walking through the candy/cereal aisles, it's obvious that the colors on the packaging are more vibrant, the characters are cooler and more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Persuasive Essay On Childhood Obesity A Deeper Look into Childhood Obesity The percentage of children with obesity in the United States has more than tripled since the 1970s ("Healthy Schools."). Childhood obesity is a medical condition that affects children and teenagers who contain excess body fat. This condition is very common today, having about 3 million cases per year ("Healthy Schools."). A sign that a child is suffering from obesity is when their weight is well above the average for a child's height and age. Today about one in five school children, ages 6–19, are obese ("Healthy Schools."). I will be addressing the causes, health complications, treatments, controversy, and supporting obese students. First and foremost, the most common causes of childhood obesity are genetic factors, overeating, and not exercising enough. Although obesity may run in a family, it does not determine whether a child will be obese or not ("Obesity in Children"). If a child who comes from a family of obesity, happens to become overweight like them, the likely cause is due to bad eating and activity habits. Many children today spend more time inside the house eating and watching television, rather than being active outdoors ("Obesity in Children"). This is due to the recent popularity of having electronics such as television, games, and phones serve as entertainment. Another reason for the excessive eating is because parents are often too busy to cook healthy foods on a regular basis, leaving children to rely on fast food or Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Persuasive Essay On Obesity Adolescents don't aren't cautions of the things they eat and are experiencing obesity problems that can lead to a shorter life sentence. People have lost interest on their calorie intake which is now becoming a danger. Aside of that there are more consequences to an unhealthy body. Most people question whether checking and limiting themselves to certain foods is healthy. Obesity is becoming more of a problem in the United States. These problems are mostly triggered by low income. Young adults between the ages 18–26 should be aware of the dangers and health problems of obesity. Therefore, people should reduce the consumption of fast food, organic foods' prices should lower to an affordable price, and calorie count should commence. Most people don't know when they are considered "obese". Once a person is 30 lbs overweight they are obese. According to the MNT Editorial Team on What is Obesity? • 15. Obesity Persuasive Essay With more than 12 million American children, ages two to 19, who are either overweight or obese, it may come as no surprise that parents and doctors may be a bit shy to talk about the issue. But it's an issue that desperately needs discussing. Many parents may either be in denial about their child's weight or just too embarrassed about it to ask the pediatrician about it. Many may wait to bring it up when the child's doctor starts the discussion. Doctors have to approach the conversation rather sensitively so they don't insult the parent and/or child. In a recent survey by Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity at Yale University, researchers found parents would rather have the doctor tell them "let's talk about your child's weight", than telling them their kid is fat, obese, overweight, chubby, etc. The Yale study also found fat –shaming has the...show more content... The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends body mass index or BMI screening starting at age two, so it's a good idea to talk with your pediatrician about your child's weight at every visit. Your child's doctor will also ask about the weight history of both parents, family health history, as well as the family's eating and exercise habits. There are questions parents should ask if they're considered with their child's weight, and they vary with age groups. For preschoolers, the focus is on the family's eating habits. So parents should ask about how to help your child learn healthy habits, examples of healthy snacks, and appropriate portion sizes for children. If your child is overweight when they're in elementary school, your doctor may recommend ways to maintain their weight to allow them to grow into the extra pounds. But many parents may want to ask about ways to get your child motivated off the couch, and to eat healthier snacks without nagging. Also, one big question for parents may be how puberty will affect your child's Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Persuasive Essay About Obesity I.Introduction Because of the omnipotence of fast food chains in America, when we feel the urge for an easy meal, Americans, in general, immediately look to the fast food nation for a quick suppression to their hunger. Because we live in a time–is–money society the most efficient means of hunger satisfaction is the almighty drive–through. Corporations spend billions of dollars advertising to enhance sales of their products. With American catching on to the lack of healthy food options in the fast food nation, fast food chains began campaigning healthier food such as their salads and fruit cups. Meaning to control how much soda we can drink or how much salt can be in our soup. Now you're probably thinking "We don't want that because every person is different, there might be someone who has to eat a lot more food, because he and/or she is too skinny. We are not saying that personal responsibility is not the most important thing, but there is more to it than that. Obesity is a societal problem, and we all have a role to play in addressing: parents, individuals, health professionals, organizations, food companies, manufactures of sporting goods, and, of course, government." In the other article called "Keep the State off my Plate" by Julie Gunlock, says that children in San Francisco must cross the Bay Bridge in Oakland if they want a free toy with their chicken nuggets. • 18. Persuasive Essay On Obesity Obesity is a very serious subject that a lot of people take lightly, especially us as Americans. America is the most obese country in the world. Statistics show that 300,000 people die a day in the United States of America due to obesity. This clearly shows that we have a serious problem that is massively underestimated. Obesity is also something that countries all across the world suffer from. For example, Australia is also one of the most obese countries in the world, and 50,000 people die a year from obesity in Australia. That's 140 people who die per day in Australia. To solve the problem of obesity the prices of junk food should be raised and the prices of healthy food should be lowered and more convenient. Obesity is something that a huge fraction of people in the United States suffers from. 160 million adult Americans suffer from obesity, and many kids suffer from it as well. Sometimes people focus so much on adults that they tend to forget kids. Kids usually suffer from obesity because they are not active. Portions have grown over the years. Statistics show that Americans consumed about 2,160 calories a day, in 1970. Today Americans consume about 2,673 calorie. Foods had much less calories and they did not contain as much fat or anything like that. Cheeseburgers once had 333 calories and now they have 590 calories. In 1970, soda was 6oz, and now one bottle of coke is 20oz. It has more than doubled in just a short period of time. Americans today consume 25% more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Persuasive Essay On Obesity Obesity is a growing epidemic in the American people, but what is the root of this seemingly unavoidable problem? According to David Zinczenko, it is the failings of the American society, but in the opinion of Radley Balko, it's the facilitation of the government's support and the failure to take self–responsibility from the people themselves. They both have an opinion as to what the cause of obesity in America, but Zinczenko has the better argument. Through the use of real–life examples, refutation, and sound logic/reasoning Zinczenko writes a more persuasive piece than Balko. Zinczenko uses real–life examples to strengthen his argument. Where is his credibility? He uses information gathered by other non–experts, like himself, to justify his opinions. In his essay, Balko says, "All of the Democrat candidates for president boasted plans to push health care further into the public sector. More and more, states are preventing private health insurers from charging overweight and obese clients higher premiums, which effectively removes any financial incentive for maintaining a healthy lifestyle." (Balko 467). He chooses to blame the government for the failures of society. These ideas are not well supported and prove to be juvenile at best. The government is attempting to look after it's people by supporting them through whatever health issues they may have. The government did not make people obese. Sure, it has enabled large fast–food corporations to grow and expand throughout the entire country, but society has done the same. There is no one person or thing to blame for the failings of America. The choices American society has made, as a whole, are what has failed the American people. Zinczenko uses multiple relatable real–life examples to refute Balko's beliefs of government failure through enabling and people's lack of responsibility. These refutations is what helps to create Zinczenko's powerful argument. Zinczenko writes many refutations in his essay that help to drive his argument home.
