September 2004 – June 2007 (ACS) multiple versions of 2, 3 and 4-axis CNC Hot Wire
Machine
Lead Design Engineer Software Programmer and Electrical Engineer in the design, development and
implementation of a Four-axis CNC Hot Wire Cutting System. This system is used in the EPS foam
industry to cut architectural shapes and profiles out of expanded polystyrene for use as structural
members. The accuracy of the system in the X, Y, and Z-axis is 0.00254mm of movement and 100%
repeatable operations. The angular accuracy is 0.05 degrees and is 100% repeatable. The high accuracy
and repeatability is due to use of optical encoders mounted on the motors to monitor and provide feedback
for position accountability and high precision helical gear heads. Designed all of the custom electronic
interfaces for command, safety interface and motor control. The electronics allow for automatic wire
temperature compensation and auto motor velocity control on the fly. The software is designed to import
dxf-formatted files and automatically convert the file to G-code for direct motor control. This software
feature allows the user to go from design directly to cutting of the end product without touching up the
design to match up with the system configuration, which reduces machine down time.

June 2000 – May 2001 - Air Quality Sciences, Inc. , Marietta GA
Primary Hardware Design and Software Engineer for development of a Custom Environmental
Control and Data Acquisition System. Designed the system for separate control and monitoring
of a bank of five environmental chambers in order to create and maintain prescribed
environmental conditions (pressure, temperature, humidity and air flow) within the above
chambers within +-2% tolerance level. The chambers are used to run tests on certain media or
equipment that is placed within the chambers to show how environmental conditions affect the
test material over predetermined amounts of exposure to these conditions. Designed control
hardware based around Opto22 digital and analog control devices and interfaced to a Pentium
based controller. Developed and implemented PC based software written in a VB 6.0 object
oriented environment which controls all system functions via an RS232/422 port. Wrote software
to gather and monitor information coming from the chambers in real-time and store the operation
and conditions in a central relational database for historical reporting and modeling. The software
also includes a reporting facility that generates custom reports based on time studies of the
environmental conditions and the off-gassing of the media or piece of equipment under study.
The information captured can also be sent over the Intranet or Internet via XML to another
package for analysis.

Software Engineer – Developed GUI interface and high level communication package was
developed using Visual Basic 6.0 to interface with an existing 68HC16 C++ developed micro-
controller to control the operation of HVAC in large industrial environments. The GUI
environment was designed to allow for 3-D graphics of the information captured from the micro
controller, report generation and to facilitate precise communication with the Access 2000
database. The VB system uses dynamic SQL calls to interface with multiple hardware and
software configurations to extract data from the particular controller and store in the database.
The software allows for various communication types based on the type of controller that is being
interfaced. The main type of communication is a proprietary protocol developed by Johnson
Controls and the other communications are carried out via RS-232, 488, 422, Modem, LAN and
WAN environments.

Software product designed for the air quality and emission monitoring industry that monitors
Ozone or O3. This product is PC based and written in a VB 6.0 object oriented environment. The
custom software controls all of the functions of an (Thermo Environmental Instruments) O3
analyzer via an RS232 port. The software gathers and monitors the information coming from the
O3 in real-time and displays the data in a graphical format to the user. This information is also
recorded in a central relational database for historical reporting and trending for O3 studies and
management control. The software also includes a reporting facility that generates standard O3
reports based on time studies of an environment or piece of equipment. These reports display
particulars such as Ozone Depletion, Ozone Buildup, Ozone Decay, and other related O3
information. Reports may be printed in preformatted type or exported to Microsoft Word or Excel
in either Text or HTML format.

Environmental Chamber Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System
Primary design engineer, software engineer, and project manager of a design and implementation
team for an Environmental Chamber Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System.
This system was designed for an indoor air quality firm that provides product emissions testing
using environmental chamber technology. This state of the art system uses PC based object
oriented software and a custom built electronic controller to capture, in real time, interior and
exterior environmental conditions of pressure, air temperature, relative humidity, and airflow.
The control software simultaneously captures environmental data and reacts to achieve constant
user prescribed environmental conditions in the chamber. The system uses a series of heat
exchangers; water chillers and dampening devices to achieve the user defined conditions within a
prescribed tolerance of 1-3%. This control system provides complete data logging and reporting
of events, tests and procedures that are taking place. The system is designed to allow the
electronics to be automatically calibrated at prescribed intervals so the system can hold the
tolerances the end user has set.
