IRREGULAR VERBS

PAST SIMPLE
•Use the Past Simple for finished actions.
•The Past Simple is the same for all persons ( I, you,
he, she,…)
•There are regular and irregular verbs.
PAST SIMPLE: IRREGULAR VERBS
SUBJECT PRONOUNS IRREGULAR VERBS COMPLEMENT
I went to the gym.
You did the housework.
He got up late.
She took a shower at noon.
It had a black collar.
We found your keys.
You made our dinner.
They saw an interesting movie.
PAST SIMPLE: REGULAR VERBS
RULES:
• Verb + ed e.g., work worked.
• Verbs with final “e” add “d” e.g.,
change changed .
• Verbs with final consonant + “y” = y +
“ied” e.g., cry cried.
• Verbs with final consonant + vowel+
consonant = double consonant + “ed”
e.g., stop stopped.

I studied for the exam.
You called her last night.
He lived in Canada.
She finished her report.
It stopped the thief.
We started a new course.
You worked in a bakery.
They danced in my party.

RULES:

• Main verb: Infinitive form.

RULES:
• Auxiliary verb: Did

  • 2. PAST SIMPLE •Use the Past Simple for finished actions. •The Past Simple is the same for all persons ( I, you, he, she,…) •There are regular and irregular verbs.
  • 3. PAST SIMPLE: IRREGULAR VERBS SUBJECT PRONOUNS IRREGULAR VERBS COMPLEMENT I went to the gym. You did the housework. He got up late. She took a shower at noon. It had a black collar. We found your keys. You made our dinner. They saw an interesting movie.

PAST SIMPLE: REGULAR VERBS RULES: • Verb + ed e.g., work worked. • Verbs with final “e” add “d” e.g., change changed . • Verbs with final consonant + “y” = y + “ied” e.g., cry cried. • Verbs with final consonant + vowel+ consonant = double consonant + “ed” e.g., stop stopped.
