2. Poverty in the Philippines
- it remains the most critical social problem that needs to
be addressed.
- 26.5% of the population falls below poverty line
Causes of Poverty:
1. Rapid Population Growth: 23.1 Million lives below poverty
line. As Philippines has limited resources and an existing
high poverty rate, the rapid increase in population has
become a problem because there is already insufficient
resources to support the population, which leaves much lesser
resources to improve the economy.
2. Unemployment: Poverty rises largely due to high
unemployment rate, high inflation rate and wide income
inequality.
Because of these factors, poverty rate remain constant
throughout the years and more to come without sustainable
solution.

5. His life bounced back slowly but dramatically after experiencing a spiritual renewal
and appealing himself in his own vision of success. And after becoming a
Christian, still, things did not turn out well fast. He plunged to his lowest ebb - he
became a taong grasa, living on park benches. He used more drugs than ever
before and slept in drug pushers'' dens. This, after his family kicked him out of the
house for being La Loma''s worst drinker and for his drug addiction. I had nothing.

bad to good is a vision - that I could do big things with God''s help, and that I could
work so that my own family would be spared the hardships and horror I
experienced." "I started by pulling away from things and persons that kept me
down. I started to go to church often and met new friends, real friends," he said.
His vision later found substance in product distribution and network marketing. "I

highest premium to one''s wife and kids.

6. Eight years ago, Me, my wife and my 2 kids were in a situation where everything that we would ever need, was "within our reach". You might ask, "you
mean you got everything you ever dreamed of!?" and my answer is No. "Within our reach" meant we could reach for anything we would ever need if
we needed them, literally. We lived in a "very small" studio where the bedroom, living room and the bathroom are all in one space. So, if we needed
something, all we need do is "reach" for it.
Since we were so hard up then, i left for work early and came home late from making sales calls. That was my routine most of the time. Coming home
late meant not seeing my kids awake when i arrived. But one scene always stood out. Every morning after fixing our bed and breakfast, our second
child would always tell us he's already finished eating because he always gets up ahead of us. At first, we really didn't take notice because being 6
years old at the time, he knew where and how to get leftovers. But we noticed that there were no leftovers missing, instead, there were a lot of biscuit
wrappers in the trashbin.
So, one morning, i asked my son what his morning breakfast routine was. But before the answer, please imagine with me as i paint a mental picture of
our studio, for you to better appreciate my sons daily morning quest for a meal. As you enter the door and shut it behind you, imagine just standing still.
On your lower left side is the sink, and above the sink is a cupboard where the treasure (biscuits) is stored. On your right side is the bathroom. If you
walk 3 paces along the short corridor, that is our bed. Before the bed is a stack of monoblock chairs. Now his answer: He said, "Dad, (1)when i wake
up and (2)feel hungry, (3)i take a chair from the stack (remember he is only 6 years old), (4)carry it over to the sink,(5) i climb up the chair,(6) climb
onto the sink and balance myself carefully as i (7)open the cupboard,(8) get the container where the biscuits are, (9)bite the biscuits between my teeth
as i return the container, (10)close the cupboard door, (11)carefully climb down the sink to the chair,(12)then climb down the chair and finally (13)return
the chair to the stack...Whew! i got tired just listening to him and really felt sorry for the daily ordeal he goes through just to get a meal.
As i went home that night and shut the door behind me, i saw the stack of chairs and immediately i foresaw what my son was going to do the next
morning. As a father, my instincts kicked in. I opened the cupboard and got 2 packs of biscuits (not 1, just in case he wanted more), and placed it
where he would immediately notice it, on top of the stack of chairs. It was then that I heard God, my Father, whisper to my heart, .."that’s how "I" am to
you rads....." and my heart just melted and i cried for several reasons:
1. Knowing the fact that my Father loves me is enough to overwhelm me.
2. He is doing everything in His power to get His blessing into our life if we would but only listen to Him, trust and obey Him. Not trusting in our abilities
and doing it our own way, like what my son did...come to think of it, like what i do from time to time.
3. It took my son 13 steps to get to what he wanted, it only took me 3
steps(opening the cupboard, getting the biscuit and putting it on the
stack of chairs.) our idea of "shortcuts" is actually longer than Gods.
4. Lastly, that if we would just wait on God, trust His timing and have the faith that what He has for us is
better than "biscuits", we would enjoy more than just having breakfast alone, we would revel in a feast "with"
our Father.
So, what is the FOOTNOTE?
PSALM 127:2 In vain you rise early and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
" for he grants sleep to those he loves"<---- FOR WHILE THEY SLEEP,HE PROVIDES FOR....
this is "THE FOOTNOTE".

9. As the only child, Isko Moreno took upon
himself to share the burden of earning for
himself and his family. He was in Grade 4
when he started gathering old newspapers,
plastics, carton boxes, used bottles and any
reusable and recyclable junk worth selling.
These went on until he finish his elementary
grades at the Rosauro Almario Elementary
School. For his secondary education, Isko
Moreno went to the Tondo High School. Now a
budding teenager, he “promoted” himself into
a pedicab driver. In high school, Isko Moreno
was likewise deprived of teenage indulgences
like parties, outings, proms and other activities
inherent in growing adolescents because he
was busy eking out a living. Undaunted by
these early setbacks in life, Isko Moreno knew
that adherence to hard work and belief in
one’s self are key ingredients to success.
The life of Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso is a story of success, triumph and victory. It is an inspiring story that
reminds us that poverty and deprivation are not hindrances to success. Born October 24, 1974 in a depressed area of
Tondo, Manila Isko Moreno started his young life amongst the most underprivileged and in a portion of the City that’s
almost forsaken.
Reared by doting parents, Joaquin and Rosario Domagoso, whose natural desire was to see their only child succeed in life,
the Domagoso family was beset with problems endemic to most families in Parola, Tondo. His father worked as stevedore
at Manila’s North Harbor, earning barely enough for their family’s needs. Thus, Isko Moreno even at an early age was
aware of his social and economic condition and standing. Because of poverty, he missed the luxury of boyhood joys, like
toys, new shoes and clothes and other things a young person usually craves for.
10. At the outset, he landed only small roles but patience and perseverance paid off. From bit roles, he
landed big projects that propelled him to be one of the most promising actors of his time. Yet, in
spite of the glitter of the silver screen, Isko Moreno never lost focus on his dream.
In 1998, in his desire to help alleviate the sad plight of his neighbors in Tondo, Isko Moreno began
a new leaf of his life-a career in politics and public service. In that year’s elections, in spite of being
a neophyte politician, he was elected among the top Councilors of the 1st District of Manila. His
showing surprised a lot of political observers. In 2001, he was re-elected, garnering the most
number of votes than any other Councilor in all the 6 districts of the City. His winning ways
continued that in 2004, he landed among the topnotcher- Councilors in that year’s elections. His
stint as a 3-term Councilor speaks for itself. He authored and sponsored pro-poor ordinances and
resolutions especially in concerns like education, health, and housing. His political stand always
find him at the side of truth and righteousness, a move which necessitates him crossing party lines
and sometimes foregoing personal gains when these run in contrary to the interest especially of
the poor and unprivileged, the very people he vowed to serve.
At a wake in Tondo, star maker
Wowie Roxas spotted this Drawing inspiration from an equally talented, supportive and understanding wife, Dynne and 4
dashing young man. With an adorable kids, Isko Moreno’s dream took another step forward in May 14, 2007. Backed by his
inherent talent and physical outstanding legislative agenda and a meritorious public service record, Manileños elected him
