2. What is Collage?
Collage is the pasting together of various
materials to create a picture.
The word collage comes from the French word
“coller” which means “to glue”.
3. Brief history about Collage
• It began in the early 20th century by French cubist Artists – PABLO
PICASSO and GEORGES BRAQUE.
• Both artists began gluing materials together on canvas to create a
new image or type of artwork.

Materials used to create a collage includes:
• Papers: assorted variety and types
• Textures: fabrics (plain, patterned, laced), ribbons, cardboard
of varying thickness,
• Pieces of old art work and drawings
• Lettering – various font styles and words
• Other found objects
• Glue.

is a Collage technique where the artwork is created using an
assemblage/arrangement of different types of paper.

hand-made paper,
gift wrap and other decorated paper,
tissue paper and crepe paper,
old book and magazines pages,
coloured paper,
old photographs,
old maps,
Stamps and old postcards,
Recycled paper etc.

Mixed media is a term used to describe artworks composed from a
combination of different media or materials.
• Mixed media Collage is using a combination of different
materials including cloth, paper, wood and found objects to create Art
work.
