1. Teaching for Diversity
(My initial ideas)
Teaching is ‘the work’ –
E.g. Administering the curriculum content
and meeting the mandated outcomes.
To teach is to instil ideas, values
and knowledge upon another.
Teaching is a process of informing
A teacher is in a
position of authority
Diversity recognises that
each individual is unique
Includes, but not limited to–
o Education/ability level
o Socioeconomic status
o Religious beliefs
o Sexual orientation
o Race
o Gender
o Nationality
Diversity is important beyond the classroom
because –
o To exist empathetically in society, we need to
understand one another.
o The workplace, in a lot of ways, expects
collaboration and cooperation – individuals
need these skills to be employable
A Hierarchy exists –
Teacher – the one who ‘knows’
Students – the ‘empty vessels’
Generic strategy:
Differentiation?
But, in reality, teachers do more!

than done…
