5. Tactful Disagreement
When you deny or contradict what someone is has
stated the effect is often impolite unless the denial is
softened in some way. You can soften it by an apology
or by adjusting to the speaker point of view.
Example;
English is difficut language to learn.
-I am afraid I disagree with you: some languages are
even more difficult think.
Yes, but it's not so difficult as Russian.
6. Partial or qualified agreement
• In discussion and argument ,there is often a
need to agree with one part of a speaker's
view and disagree with another.
Example;
-Certainly,she had been under a lot of stress,but
on other hand she had to manage all her task.
-I realize that every form of taxation has its
critics but surely this is the most unfair and
unpopular tax that was ever invented.
7. Strengthened agreement
We can agree and add a further point to
strengthen the agreement.
Example:
The government will have to take steps to limit
the number of cars on the road.
-Yes, in fact I believe public opinion it now in
favour of banning cars in the central areas of
major cities.
