The brand offers a wide portfolio of products formulated from responsibly sourced ingredients from the origin itself and processed as per traditional principles of Ayurveda in small batches to ensure consistent quality, a tradition that is followed by over three generations of the family.
3. It was the early 19th century, a time when organized healthcare
and medicines were practically unknown to the small farming
communities of Kerala, Koshy Varghese (1908–1986), later
fondly known as Pappy Vaidyar committed his life to the
alleviation of the agony he observed as that was the time
when epidemics and disease played havoc in day to day life
Pappy Vaidyar enrolled in a gurukula near Kayamkulam where
he commenced his learning of Ayurveda.
Bipha Drug Laboratories was established under the name SGA
Pharmacy (St. George Ayurvedic Pharmacy)as a result of his
efforts in Oachira, a small village in South Kerala.
4. • Pappy Vaidyar, realized the need of an institution to meet the rising
demand for genuine Ayurvedic formulations/ treatment.
• Thus Bipha Drug Laboratories was founded in 1929 as SGA
Pharmacy (St. George Ayurvedic Pharmacy) in Oachira
• Bipha Drug Labs was shifted to Erattupetta and subsequently to
Kottayam to meet the rising number of patients from Central
Travancore.

proven herbal formulations for
HPV
30. HPV Virus
• Papillomaviruses are small, non-enveloped, icosahedral
DNA viruses that have a diameter of 52–55 nm.
• It has a single double-stranded DNA molecule of about 8000
base pairs (bp)
• HPV virus is epitheliotropic.
• Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually
transmitted infection
• More than 100 types of HPV is known.
• Two of these, HPV16 and HPV18, are responsible to cause
cervical cancer. It is the second-largest cancer of women
worldwide, with 510,000 new cases and 288,000 deaths
annually.
32. HPV BASANT- Ingredients
• 95 % Curcumin from Curcuma longa
• Purified extracts of Emblica officinalis (Amla)
• Neem (Azadirachta indica) leaves, and
• Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis)
• These ingredients were dispensed along with
pharmacopoeially
• Approved excipients: citric acid, sorbitol,
microcrystalline cellulose, sodium starch
glycolate, starlac, crospovidones, and sodium
alginate as a lubricating agent.
33. Function of Ingredients
Curcumin: (manjal)
• In vitro studies in cervical and oral cancer cells, curcumin has
shown to have a strong anti-HPV effect [10].
• Curcumin treatment, shown to inhibit transcription of HPV 16
E6/E7 as early as 6 h post-treatment, restores the expression of
tumor suppressor proteins p53, Rb and PTPN13 [11]
• It has the ability to improve the paclitaxel-induced apoptosis of
HPV-positive human cervical cancer cell lines via the NF-κB, p53-
caspase 3 pathway [12]
• Curcumin is also known to downregulate increased expression of
miRNA-21 in cervical cancer via AP-1 that binds to its promoter3] 1
34. Neem (Azadirachta indica) - Ariveppu
The schematization of neem components as
anticancer agents. Their effects include
angiogenesis suppression, antiproliferative
effects, and suppression of NF-κB. Also,
bioactive compounds of neem increase
transformed cell death and immunity
surveillance (adapted from Hao [14]).
35. Preclinical evidence using a diverse panel of cancer cell lines
shows aqueous extract from Phyllanthus emblica berries
induced apoptosis at concentrations ranging from 50 to 100
micrograms/mL [15]
A study has been carried out employing aqueous extracts of
the Indian Gooseberry administered orally against an ovarian
cancer xenograft model. In this report, the extracts were able
to completely ablate the growth of ovarian xenografts, with
little or no residual tumor being observed after treatment
[16].
Amla (Phyllanthus emblica)- (Nellika)
36. According to previous reports, AE can inhibit invasion of
nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells, human oral cancer KB cells
and hepatocarcinoma cells [17]. In addition, AE was also
worked as a growth inhibitor on cervical cancer cells[10].
In the study conducted by Gao.et.al, to evaluate the effect of
AE on cells’ apoptosis, Hela and SiHa cells were treated with
AE at concentrations of 50 and 100 µM for 24 h, displaying
that AE remarkably increased the apoptosis rates in Hela and
SiHa cells. They also found that AE inhibits the expression of
GLUT1 in cancer cells [10].
Aloe vera
37. It has wide spectrum action against a variety of
pathogens such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae,
including strains resistant to penicillin,
tetracycline, nalidixic acid and ciprofloxacin
Inhibitory action against Candida glabrata,
Candida albicans and Candida tropicalis
isolated from women with vulvovaginal
candidiasis, including three isolates resistant
to azole drugs and amphotericin
Inhibitory action on free as well as cell-infected
Chlamydia trachomatis
It prevents the entry of HPV 16 in Hela cells
42. Products with a global reach and significant
consumer bases in the US, Europe, South
East Asia, and the GCC nations
