2. COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND
MATLAB
Computer programming (often shortened to programming) is a process that leads from an original
formulation of a computing problem to executable computer programs.
Programming involves activities such as analysis, developing understanding, generating algorithms, verification
of requirements of algorithms including their correctness and resources consumption, and implementation
(commonly referred to as coding[1][2]) of algorithms in a target programming language.
Source code is written in one or more programming languages.
The purpose of programming is to find a sequence of instructions that will automate performing a specific task
or solving a given problem. The process of programming thus often requires expertise in many different
subjects, including knowledge of the application domain, specialized algorithms, and formal logic.
3. COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND
MATLAB
MATLAB (matrix laboratory) is a multi-paradigm numerical computing environment and fourth-generation
programming language.
A proprietary programming language developed by MathWorks, MATLAB allows matrix manipulations, plotting
of functions and data, implementation of algorithms, creation of user interfaces, and interfacing with programs
written in other languages, including C, C++, C#, Java, Fortran and Python.

5. HOW CAN I INSTALL MATLAB?
• Matlab(R) is a commercial software;
• Some universities offer their own license;
• Most universities offer versions installed in their
laboratories;
• One can download a demo version, for one Month;
• On the day of the event, we are planning to book a
lab for the participant, you shall create a list on the
Thursday Morning Science meeting, you may send
an email to Antinisca Di Marco
<antinisca.dimarco@univaq.it>
6. WHY MATLAB?
• I have been working with Matlab for a while, lately
constantly;
• It is adopted by most books in technical computation;
• It is “easy” to find;
• It is ease to use;
7. SIMILAR SOFTWARE
• Scilab (free): http://www.scilab.org/ (extremely close to
Matlab)
• Octave(free): https://www.gnu.org/software/octave/
(extremely close to Matlab)
• Maple (commercial)
• Mathematica;
• R
8. That is all, hope see you around, either by broadcast or on the day of
the seminars.
