Changes in matter can occur through changes in temperature or the application of heat. There are five main types of changes: 1) Solids can become liquids through melting as heat is applied and particles move farther apart. 2) Liquids can become gases through evaporation as boiling increases particle motion and separation. 3) Gases can become liquids through condensation as cooler surfaces cause particles to slow down and come closer together. 4) Liquids can become solids through freezing as cooler temperatures slow particles and pull them closer to form a solid. 5) Solids can become gases through sublimation as particle motion and freedom increases without becoming a liquid first.

3. SOLID TO LIQUID
- Using the process called melting you can increase the temperature
to change its properties and turn it into a liquid.
- Melting is when change of a solid into a liquid when heat is applied.
- Ex. Candle wax. When you heat a candle wax it will melt and turns
into a liquid.
- Ex. Ice. when you melt it, it turns in to liquid.

4. LIQUID TO GAS
- A liquid can turn into a gas by a process called evaporation.
- Evaporation can be achieved by boiling the liquid which will cause
the liquid particles to move faster and more rapidly apart turning it
into gas.
- Ex. boiled water and the steam coming from the top of it.

5. GAS TO LIQUID
- Gas turns into liquid by a process called condensation.
- Condensation is when a liquid vapor comes in contact with a
cool surface, it releases heat energy and the particles that
make up the gas begins to slow down and move closer
together.
- Ex. Droplets on the glass of a cold beverage.

6. LIQUID TO SOLID
- Liquid can change into a solid by a process called freezing/cooling.
- Using the freezing process, the particles in the liquid will slow
down and will move closer to each other causing the liquid to
change into solid.
- Ex. Ice candy, when you put an ice candy into a freezer it will
freeze overnight.

7. SOLID TO GAS
- A solid can turn into gas by a process called sublimation.
- In sublimation, particles of a solid material sublimate into a gas
and the freedom of motion of its particles increases which is how
a solid turns into a gas.
- Ex. dry ice and moth balls.
