We use WHO to give extra information about people.
We use WHICH to give extra information about things.
We use WHERE to give extra information about places.
We use WHOSE to give extra information about possession.

J.K.Rowling wrote the Harry Potter books.
Rowling was born in 1965.
We can combine the two sentences using the relative pronoun WHO.
J.K.Rowling, who was born in 1965, wrote the Harry Potter books.
QUESTION: Do we need the information between the commas?
ANSWER: No. The second sentence gives us extra information.

GRAMMAR – DEFINING VS. NON-DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSES
RULE: Non-defining relative clauses give extra information , after a comma or between commas.
John’s brother, who is a doctor, lives in London.
John probably has only one brother.
Defining relative clauses tell us which person, place or thing we mean. There are no commas.
John’s brother who is a doctor lives in London
John probably has more than one brother.
