4. ELECTRICAL WIRES
Electrical wires are the conductors that transmit
electricity.
The wires are available in 1mm,1.5mm,2.5mm,4mm
and 6mm diameter.
4mm wires :- meter dp(single phase
AC, refrigerators.
2.5mm wires :-lightings, fans, tube set.
1mm wires :-groundings.
6mm wires :-3 phase meter to dp where
one wire is neutral.
Min grounding requires 12mm copper
wire.
5. WIRES
Wires are the main source of
supply of electricity.
These wires are made of copper
and aluminium but copper wires
are used widely.
These are insulated wires.
1mm wire costs around 670 rs per
coil(90meter).
1.5mm wire costs around 1010 rs
per coil(90meter).
2.5mm wire costs around 1600 rs
per coil(90meter)
Incase of aluminium wire 4mm and
6mm are used.
6. Electrical wiring system
Electrical wiring system is the electrical power distribution
through the wires in a perfect manner.
Types of electrical wiring system ;
Domestic wiring system
Cleat wiring
Wooden wiring & capping wiring
CTS or TRS or PVC sheath wiring
Lead sheathed or metal sheathed wiring
Conduit wiring
7. DOMESTIC WIRING SYSTEM
Drawing electricity from mains supply to reach external
electrical fittings is known as domestic electric wiring.
The mains supply is delivered to house using three core
wiring called the live, neutral and the earth.
The live wire is BROWN in colour and brings in the current.
The neutral coloured BLUE is the return wire.
The earth is coloured GREEN or YELLOW.
8. CLEAT WIRING
This is the temporary electrical
wiring on building and construction
sites is necessary to enable lighting
and power to be provided for the
various points on the sites.
9. WOODEN WIRING OR
CAPING WIRING
PVC insulated wires are
placed in the plastic casing
or wooden casing and
covered with a cap , where
casing is a rectangular strip
where the cables run
through it having grooves.
10. PVC SHEATHED WIRING
It consists of a toughened
outer sheath of PVC
thermoplastic , covering one
or more individual annealed
copper conductors
,themselves insulated with
PVC . This type is used for
residential and light
commercial construction in
many countries.
11. JUNCTION BOX
These are designed for surface
mounting, it is used mostly in
ceilings, underfloors or
concealed behind an access
panel.
These are generally made up of
metal or plastic.
It connects two or more set of
wires.
It costs around 10 rs
12. LEAD SHEATHED OR METAL
SHEATHED WIRING
a lead sheath contains
outer sheath of lead-
aluminium(95% Pb).it can
be used as a chemical
barrier in low, medium and
instrumental cables for all
kinds of petrol chemical
projects.
13. CONDUIT WIRING
This is the most common
type wiring system. In this
type the wires run through
PVC pipe.
It includes:-
open conduit wiring
closed conduit wiring
15. ELECTRICAL SWITCHES
It is any device used to interrupt the flow of
electrons in a circuit.
Types in switches
One way (single pole):-
It is the electrical switch most commonly used
i.e., ON/OFF
Two way (double pole):-
These switches also contains ON and OFF. It is
used in industrial application, these swiches control a
device or equipment from more than one location.
16. Types of electrical switches
based on usage
Do not disturb switch:-
It is used in hospitals and hotels to
ensure privacy and silence.
Light dimmer/ step less regulator:-
It is used to control or change the
speed of a fan or sometimes to change
the intensify of a light.
Bell push switch:-
e.g., doorbells.
So, when the switch is pushed it rings the
bell connected to it.
17. SWITCH BOARD AND
SWITCHES
Switch board includes
switches, sockets, fan
regulator.
Price of switches varies
from 100 to 500 rs
depending upon the
brand used.
Price of sockets and
regulator are around 100
and 300 rs respectively.
18. LIGHTS AND FAN
Ceiling fan costs about 1300 rs to 5000
rs.
Tubelight costs about 400 rs.
Nowadays CFL(compact fluorescent
light) bulbs are widely used as it is more
energy efficient, durable and
comparatively less cost than LED bulbs.
It costs about 200 to 600 rs depending
upon the capacity
21. PLUG
A plug is defined as
the end piece of a cord
used for an electrical
device with prongs that
fit into a wall socket.
Plug type available is
type c (230v,50hz)
22. METAL BOX
These boxes are used for fitting
switches and sockets.
These metal frames are fitted
inside the wall through which
wires are connected.
2*2 inch boxes costs about 30
rs, 6*3 inch boxes costs around
60 rs.
Wooden boxes are also used to
avoid earthing and shortcircuits
caused due to metal box.
25. Flexible pipes
As name says these flexible pipes
are used in temporary wiring and
wiring done outside the wall.
Advantages of these pipes are, these
are low cost, flexible and it dose not
require any elbow collar
But these types are not for long term
uses.
27. RESIDUAL CURRENT
CIRCUIT BREAKER
A residual current circuit
breaker is essentially a current
sensing device used to protect
a low voltage circuit in case of
fault.
It contains a switch device
that switches off whenever
a fault occurs in the
connected circuit
28. MINIATURE CIRCUIT
BREAKER
Circuit breakers are small devices used
to control and protect the electric panel
and other devices from overflowing of
electric power.
When there is overflow of current or
short circuit it trips down.
Single pole and two pole MCB are used
in domestic wiring.
For single pole it costs around 190rs.
For two pole it costs around 600rs.
