5. Comparison of how the news is
delivered via these platforms
• Accessibility - the BBC news website is very accessible, but only if you
have a data connection and are tech savvy. Newspapers and the TV don’t
require a data connection or tech knowledge to be accessed, but you cannot
buy a newspaper or watch TV everywhere like you can with a mobile device.
• Environment - consuming the news via the TV and online can be
considered more eco-friendly as they don’t use paper, but electricity is
required to use a mobile device or a television.
• Multi-media - the news on TV and online can include videos and audio
related to the story, with newspapers they are purely visual.
• Speed - the news on TV and online can update very quickly and give you
the news as it happens, newspaper articles need to be written, printed and
then distributed before you can read the same story.
11. Contrasting how the news is
delivered via these platforms
• Viewpoint - The BBC article is a lot more biased towards the
pilots who are being wrongly blamed for the flight cancellations.
Channel 4 are fairly neutral as they have interviews with both
passengers affected by the cancellations and with the CEO of
Ryanair. The Independent are also mostly neutral, but imply that
the CEO is at fault as they use the phrase “Ryanair blamed a
number of factors”.
• Bias - The BBC is generally politically neutral and give both sides
of the story in the majority of their articles. Channel 4 is generally
more left wing and this shows in their video as they make people
feel sorry for the passengers. The I newspaper always includes
both right and left-wing stories and viewpoints, but their
viewership is generally centre-left.
12. Information not included on
some platforms
• Channel 4 News gives a lot more coverage of the CEO’s
point of view than the other two news distributers
• The I includes information about the amount of money that
is being refunded
• The BBC article focuses heavily on the pilots’ opinions
whereas the other two methods don’t really cover what the
pilots had to say at all
• Channel 4 also gives opinions from the passengers
affected by the cancellations
