Sociologists have classified the different types of
societies into six categories, each of which possess their
own unique characteristics:
 Hunting and gathering societies.
 Pastoral societies.
 Horticultural societies.
 Agricultural societies.
 Industrial societies.
 Post-industrial societies.

2. • Societies that rely primarily
or exclusively on hunting
wild animals, fishing, and
gathering wild fruits,
berries, nuts, and
vegetables to support their
diet.

industrial society is the
stage of society's
development when the
service sector generates
more wealth than the
manufacturing sector of
the economy.

4. • A pastoral society is a
social group of
pastoralists, whose way of
life is based on
pastoralism, and is
typically nomadic. Daily life
is centered upon the
tending of herds or flocks.

5. • A horticultural society is an
organization devoted to the
study and culture of cultivated
plants. Such organizations
may be local, regional,
national, or international.
Some have a more general
focus, whereas others are
devoted to a particular kind or
group of plants. They are also
clustered.

6. • An agrarian society (or
agricultural society) is any
society whose economy is
based on producing and
maintaining crops and
farmland.

society refers to a society
driven by the use of
technology to enable mass
production, supporting a
large population with a
high capacity for division
of labour.
