1. A Brief Overview of AIEQ

A Professor of French and Francophone Studies at Colby College in Maine, BénédicteMaugière studied at
the Sorbonne University in Paris, where she earned her doctorate. She currently serves as Vice President
for the Americas of the Association Internationale des ÉtudesQuébécoises (AIEQ). The following text
provides a short introduction to the organization.
Celebrating 15 years, AIEQ operates with two goals: to connect individuals studying the Canadian
province of Québec and to facilitate development of courses, publications, and seminars to enhance
worldwide understanding of Québec. Presently the organization includes 3,000 members from 82
countries who specialize in various aspects of Québec, including sociology, history, linguistics, literature,
and political science.
AIEQ’s activities include offering scholarships and other funding in Quebec Studies. Among the available
fellowships are one for American students seeking to study in Québec and one for McGill University that
focuses on French language and Québec studies. To learn more about the organization, or to find
