This document discusses types of volcanic eruptions. It begins with an opening prayer and review of assignments. It then presents objectives for the lesson which are to classify types of volcanic eruptions based on video evidence, illustrate the types observed in the Philippines by group, describe the characteristics of each type, and discuss precautions for eruptions. The lesson discusses five types of eruptions - phreatic, phreatomagmatic, strombolian, vulcanian, and plinian. Students draw and describe examples and discuss precautions to take before, during and after eruptions.
2. OPENING PRAYER: Lord’s Prayer
Reading of 1st Passage: Isaiah 45:7
‘I form the light and create darkness,
I make peace and create calamity,
I, the Lord, do all these things.’
2
4. REVIEW OF LESSONS
A. Classify whether the following volcanoes are active or
inactive;
1. Kanlaon of Negros Island
2. Hibok-hibok in Camiguin
3. Mayon Volcano of Albay
4. Taal Volcano of Batangas
5. Mt. Urat of Sulu
B. What are the two types of volcanoes and differentiate?
5. CHECKING OF ASSIGNMENT:
1. Enumerate examples of active
volcanoes found in your locality or
nearby places.
2. Enumerate and differentiate the
types of volcanic eruptions.
5
6. 6
UNLOCKING OF DIFFICULT TERMS:
1. Violent – very strong or powerful
2. Weak – lacking strength and energy
3. Explosive – able or likely to shatter violently or
burst apart
4. Eruption – a sudden outbreak of something
(ejection)
7. Objectives of
today’s lesson:
1. Classify the types of volcanic eruptions based on their observable
characteristics using the prepared video clip;
2. Illustrate or draw the types of volcanic eruptions observed in the
Philippines based on their eruptive style, done by group assignment;
3. Describe each type of volcanic eruption based on their observable
characteristics;
4. Cite some of the precautionary measures to be taken before, during, and
after volcanic eruption by making a short video presentation (Maka-tao).
7
8. ▪ What have you
understood about the
passage?
▪ Can you cite some
examples of calamities
we have encountered at
present time?
MOTIVATION:
(viewing the passage given earlier)
God’s Promise:
‘The Lord of host is with us;
The God of Jacob is our
refuge.’
8
▪ Have you already seen a volcanic eruption or had an experience? Yes
or No?
▪ Short video presentation on how volcanic eruption look like
10. DISCUSSION:
1. Based on the video presented, what are the types of volcanic
eruptions? How are they classified?
A. Phreatic or hydrothermal – is a stream-driven eruption as the hot
rocks come in contact with water (ex. Taal Volcano in Batangas)
B. Phreatomagmatic – is a violent eruption due to contact between
water and magma (ex. Mt. Mayon in Albay)
C. Strombolian – a periodic weak to violent eruption characterized by
fountain lava (ex. Irazu in Costa Rica)
D. Vulcanian – characterized by tall eruption, do not have much lava
flow, but larger than strombolian (ex. Paricutin in Mexico)
E. Plinian – excessively explosive type of eruption of gas (ex.
Pinatubo in Zambales)
10
11. DISCUSSION:
2. Which one is classified as a stream-driven
eruption as the rocks come out from the water
(Phreatic, Phreatomagmatic, Plinian, or
Strombolian)
3. Which types of volcanic eruption can be observed
in the Philippines?
11
12. GROUP ACTIVITY:
A. Draw the types of volcanic eruptions observed
in the Philippines and describe based on their
eruptive style/observable characteristics.
Group I: Draw the Phreatic type of eruption
Group II: Draw the Plinian type of eruption
B. Reporting follows by the group representative.
12
13. POST – ACTIVITY:
Match the name of volcanoes at Column A with the
type of eruption at Column B. (Letter & Word)
13
Column A
1. Mt. Taal in Batangas
2. Mt. Pinatubo of Zambales
3. Mt. Paricutin in Mexico
4. Mt. Mayon of Albay
Column B
A. Plinian
B. Phreatic
C. Phreatomagmatic
D. Strombolian
E. Vulcanian
14. ANALYSIS:
Answer the following questions based on your activity
above;
1. What are the different types of volcanic eruptions you
have learned from this lesson?
2. What is the basis of classifying the types of volcanic
eruptions?
3. Which type of volcanic eruptions are observable here
in the Philippines? Cite example for each type.
14
15. ABSTRACTION:
15
1. How did you classified the types of volcanic eruption?
2. In one word describe volcanic eruption.
APPLICATION:
Volcanoes are dangerous. They can kill people and damage
property.
▪ You are going to make a short video clip by group on some
precautionary measures to be taken before, during, and
after volcanic eruption;
Group I: Before; Group II: During; Group III: After
Note: Just send your output to our group chat with your group name and members
16. WRAP
UP:
16
1. Classify the types of volcanic eruptions
based on their observable characteristics
using the prepared video clip;
2. Illustrate or draw the types of volcanic
eruptions observed in the Philippines
based on their eruptive style, done by
group assignment;
3. Describe each type of volcanic eruption
based on their observable characteristics;
4. Cite some of the precautionary measures
to be taken before, during, and after
volcanic eruption by making a short video
presentation (Maka-tao).
17. ASSESSMENT:
SKILL PERFORMANCE TEST
Directions: Draw the following types of volcanic
eruptions in a short sized bondpaper using pencil
