5. How it All Began
Cardno ATC was founded in 1982
in Sioux Falls, SD as an analytical
laboratory. The company’s initial
services included water quality
analysis, lake restoration and general
analytical testing. Readily adapting to
an evolving market, Cardno ATC began
conducting asbestos analyses and air
monitoring services, creating a new
direction for the growing company.
Driven by contractor and clients’
requests, Cardno ATC continued to
expand its reach and opened several
offices nationwide including New
York City, Denver, Lincoln, Omaha,
Detroit, St. Louis, Kansas City and
Los Angeles. During the 1990s, our
geographic influence and our ability to
serve a diversified client base increased
exponentially with the addition of
more service lines. Cardno ATC also
acquired more than 10 companies and
50 additional offices nationwide.
