Conjunctions are used to join one idea (words, phrases, clauses or sentences) together in the same
sentence.
Look at the following examples.

Kata hubung to memiliki arti “untuk”. Kata hubung ini digunakan dengan kata kerja
bentuk pertama (V1). Perhatikan contoh berikut:
I usually use my pencil to write on my notebook.
(Aku biasanya menggunakan pensilku untuk menulis di buku catatanku)
My teachers always tell me to study everyday.
(Guru-guruku selalu memberitahuku untuk belajar setiap hari)
I’m using my phone to send her a message.
(Aku sedang menggunakan HPku untuk mengiriminya sebuah pesan)

Kata hubung in order to memiliki makna “supaya/agar”. Frasa ini biasanya
digunakan untuk menjawab pertanyaan dengan kata tanya kenapa (why).
Penggunaanya yaitu in order to+V1. Perhatikan contoh berikut:
I always set my alarm at 4 in the morning in order to wake up early everyday.
(Aku selalu mengatur alarmku jam 4 pagi agar bangun lebih pagi setiap hari)
We have to study hard in order to pass the examination.
(Kita harus belajar dengan keras supaya lulus ujian)
Selain dapat diletakkan di tengah, in order to bisa juga diletakkan di awal kalimat.
In order to stay healthy, we have to eat healthy food.
(Agar tetap sehat, kita harus makan makanan sehat)

Kata hubung so that juga memiliki makna “supaya/agar”. Perbedaan dengan in orther to
adalah setelah so that kita harus menggunakan kalimat lengkap (terdiri dari subjek dan kata
kerja atau subjek dan modal) bukan kata kerja bentuk pertama (V1). Penggunaanya yaitu so
that+S+V1 atau so that+S+can/could. Perhatikan contoh berikut:
I always use my cycle to school so that I can get there faster.
(Aku selalu menggunakan sepedaku ke sekolah agar aku sampai ke sana lebih cepat)
I always bring my umbrella so that I don’t get wet.
(Aku selalu membawa payung supaya aku tidak kehujanan)
so that tidak bisa diletakkan di awal kalimat.
