DESCON ENGINEERING COMPANY
INTRODUCTION:
Descon is a Pakistani multinational company which is based
in Lahore, Pakistan. The company was founded on 15 December 1977. It operates
in Engineering, Power and Chemicals sectors. Descon is the only Pakistani
company to be included in the Engineering News-Record list since 2007 The
company was founded by Abdul Razak Dawood as Design Engineering and
Construction Services in 1977 with only four engineers. The initial money used for
the startup was ₹ 3.2 million. From this, they expanded into three sectors and are
now operating in UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman. Iraq and South Africa.
MISSION STATEMENT
“Making HSE (health, safety, and environment) performance a key indicator
of organizational excellence by integrating HSE into the company’s business
processes thereby sustaining growth, complying social obligations, protecting
human loss and the environment.”
Descon company work on three sectors:

â–Ș Chemicals
We work on the engineering sector of the Descon company.
The vision of Descon engineering company is,
“To become a world class engineering, manufacturing company, operating
internationally”

PROJECT MANAGER:
Project managers are the people incharge of a specific projects or projects
with in a company. as the project manager your job is to plan, budget, oversee
and document aspects of the specific project you are working on project manager
any work closely with upper manager to make sure that the scope and direction
of each project is on scheduled. as well as other department for support. Project
manager might work by themselves or be in charge of a team to get the job done.
JOB ANALYSIS METHOD FOR PROJECT MANAGER:
INTERVIEW METHOD
the interview method is used by the descon engineering company for the job
analysis of the project manager. this interview is conducted by the senior
manager of descon company with the different job holder. Usually this interview
is held at job site. due to this method an authentic information is obtained which
is useful for further HR function.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Following point are include in the job description of the project manager,
‱ Assuring deployment of human resources and Inspection & Testing equipment’s
as per project budget and utilize them to get time tested results.
‱ Ensuring the overall execution of the Quality inspection Plan at Project through
a well-managed project QA/QC team.
‱ Review and Submission of weekly, fortnightly, monthly QA/QC reports to client,
contractor, site management and DESCON head quarter.
‱ Attend internal and external meeting with all parties; company, contractor,
vendors, contractor’s subcontractor.

‱ Ensuring the implementation of applicable Codes, standards, project
specification to meet quality requirements.
‱ Publicizing Quality Issues/concerns with site project team and as well as with
contractor and company.
‱ Responsible for ensuring that work methods are in line with Quality Inspection
Plans and are well understood by concerned supervisors, places emphasis and
concentration on quality cost reduction opportunities through close coordination
with project QA/QC team.
‱ Responsible for providing assistance to the Corporate Commercial/BA for
incoming material inspections as and when required.
‱ Responsible for ensuring that controlled copies of all relevant codes and/or
specifications are available at Project to avoid any misinformation.
JOB SPECIFICATION:
A job specification is a document which describes education, experience,
skills, knowledge required to perform a job. It is a very important document used
by HR professionals to communicate the desired people requirement in the

A minimum 2 years of experience is required to manage all work related to
project.

project managers are expected to keep and maintain a budget in almost
every field. you will need to be confident in using math skill to make sure you

ANALYTICAL SKILLS
you will also need analytical skills to be able to solve problems that may
come up during a typical workday. You will be analyzing data and making decision
that affect the project on a regular basis.

HUMAN RESOURCE PLANNING
Human resource planning tell us that how a specific work can be done
effectively with proper number of labor. HRP is very helpful in determine how
many labors forces an organization required for a particular work. and it also
measure the ability of worker and give him that kind of task which is similar with
his taste and skill. if an organization gives task to labor according to their taste
than it can enhance its efficiency of doing work. HRP also helpful in hiring the
employees.
Farqaleet Iqbal is the head of human resource department of Descon
engineering limited. he is a humble man. he knows how to manage all the labor
power and distribute the work. he has skill to motivate his staff, encourage them
and appreciate their work. he knows how a worker do his job properly.
He interacts his staff directly that's why he knows all about his worker and
their skills. so, he gives them task or work according to their skills.

JOB ORIENTATION FOR PROJECT MANAGER:
Orientation program for project manager is designed by

â–Ș Immediate Supervisor
Head of the Department in which the employee is selected.
The program usually includes:
History, policies, practices, rules and regulations of the organization. An
overview of the department, the employee joints. An introduction to the work
environment, co-workers, superiors, and sub-ordinates.
Hence, in this way the new project manager is thoroughly acquainted with
the Descon culture and thus can perform his job effectively.
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT OF PROJECT MANAGER:
DESCON TRAINING INSTITUTE (D.T.I)
Descon Has Specific institute (D.T.I) in the employees and especially
technical workers are trained and become company’s dynamic asset. These
institutes have capacity to train all types of technical works done in Pakistan and
other places.
The training program of Descon normally for the period of lesser then six
months and its purpose is to investigate strength and weakness after that making
effort to remove these weaknesses. They analyze that employee need training by
self-assessment, performance record, and questionnaire. The handouts which
they provide to trainee develop by themselves not net based. All the cost incurred
by the company let it be in-house training or training organized by the Descon

Engineering Co. The employee (project manager) normally needs training about
his skill, knowledge and career development.
For the training of project manager, we need to consider these things
carefully.
