2. Abstract
• This story is about a girl named Sam’s journey throughout time and
history in Native America. She experiences pre- European
Colonization, contact, and the fight for sovereignty and civil rights in
the 1940’s through a native person’s eyes.
• In the time of Removal, Civil War, Settlement and Expansion, Sam gets
to experience what it is like to be a white land owner in the slavery
state of Georgia. Dealing with racial superiority, and remembering her
identity as a Native American woman.
• The narrative contributes to the broader scope of U.S. history through
the eyes of two groups of people.

6. Introduction
• “Hi, my name is Sam and I am a member of the Lumbee Tribe of
North Carolina.” “Uhhh… today I am going to talk about… umm…” It is
the night before my final and I cannot think. I have no clue what to
say, how to present, or what to even discuss! Taking that nap earlier
was a huge mistake, and I definitely should have started sooner. I
have been staring at my blank screen and my notes for hours. Okay,
take a deep breath. Restart, and let’s try this again. My mind begins to
drift in a million different places. My eyes begin to close, and I drift
off into a deep sleep.
