3. Resume Objective
Summary should be your sale’s pitch.
Include your soft skills and highlight
accomplishments
Tailor to each and every position and use
appropriate titles
Describe your accomplishments using
active words versus listing tasks
4. Formatting Your Resume
Chronological Resumes are preferred
(include specific dates)
Have a brief summary of background and
experience – Objective is NOT necessary
Include technical environments for each
position
Education and additional information at
the end
This will be ported into a database – keep
it simple
Bullet point the top 5 – 7 accomplishments
5. Contents
Most recent information first
Ensure job titles are descriptive and industry
norms
Show career progression
Gaps – no problem! Give details for the gap
(training, family, whatever) and move on
Length – Appropriate to years of experience.
Remember, though, this is an introduction to
your experience, not your biography.
Use key words as often as possible to ensure you
appear at the top of searches
6. Background / Experience
Use descriptive words, ensure you have the skills
they are seeking
Describe your role and how you were key to
fulfilling role of the team, department, project,
etc.
What did you day everyday
Whatever is mentioned in summary should be
detailed in experience
What have you done that is directly related to the
role you are seeking
7. Do’s
Be Creative!
Understand the job description and
address challenges they may be facing
Be Solution – minded
Use proper grammar
SPELL CHECK!
Use accurate capitalization
8. Don’ts
No Tables, Cells
Bold only key points – resume should be
pleasing to the eye, not SHOUTING at
prospective employers
No contact information embedded in
headers or footers
No Personal information, hobbies,
interests. This is a professional resume,
not a dating service
