PROPOSAL
Title of Proposal
The title of my proposal is: “Using Tasseled Cap Transformation Technique to Study the
Urban Environment, and its effect on Agriculture and Pollution, of Lahore, Pakistan.”
Study Area
The study area chosen for this project (so for now, other options can be considered.) is: Lahore,
Capital of Province Punjab, and the 2nd largest city of the Pakistan, with latitude and
longitude of 31.6 and 747.7 degrees, in the northern hemisphere, respectively.
Purpose and Objective of Study
Few of the main objectives of my proposel are:
1. To assess the “Tasseled Cap Transformation Technique” in Lahore area;
2. To know the extent of urbanization in Lahore city, since 2000;
3. To know the land cover and land use change detection for past decade (2000-2010);
4. Estimation of deforestation (in terms of agriculture, here. ) and its effects on
the production yield of local vegetation;
5. Understanding the relationship between deforestation and temperature cha-nges
and;
a. Its future prediction (optional_ as per personal performance).
Datasets and Methodology
Available Datasets:
The available datasets for the study are (till now_ 10th
June, 2014, other options can be
considered based on availabilty):

PROPOSAL
1. LANDSAT_7 (Options: LANDSAT 4,5,7,8 )
images of ETM and EMT+ of 2000 and 2010. (Path/rows: 149/8, 149/39);
2. Lahore Shapefile. (in PCS and GCS systems);
3. Lahore DEM (GLS DEM and SRTM);
4. Lahore Temperature profile (average data, tabular and graphical);
5. Lahore Wind direction profile (average data, tabular and graphical);
6. Lahore Agriculture type and yield.
Methodology:
1. Tasseled Cap Transformation Technique (Brightness, Greenness, Wetness);
2. Euclidean Distance Method for Change Vector Analysis (CVA);
a. Magnitude (1st
Preference)
b. Direction (2nd
Preference)
3. NDVI (Normalized Distance Vegetation Index);
4. SAVI (Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index);
Other supportive techniques can be used based on availability.
Software:
Following are the software that are planned to be used in are:
1. ArcGIS 10.1 (1st
Preference)
2. ERDAS 13 (2nd
Preference)
3. ENVI 4.7 (3rd
Preference)
Applications and Significance:
This will helps in the assessment of potential accuracy of “Tasseled Cap Transforma
tion Technique” especially in urban areas of Lahore, that is the main task of this proposel.
And put us one step towards the understanding of PCA (Principal Component
Technique) in an another way.
It will also help to understand the relationship between, urbanization and pollution as well
as its effects on agricutltural yield.
