Presentation given at Agile 2014. Are you working with multiple agile teams on a single software application? Are you looking for help with making agile work for you at the program level? Have you considered leveraging the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) but been scared off by its prescriptive nature? Are you confused about how program level SAFe applies in your context? Every organisation is different and what works for one organisation may not work for another. One of the benefits of a framework, is that they can and should be adapted to your context. Based on learnings derived from practical experience, this session will illustrate how focusing on values and principles over practice and processes, can help you design a pragmatic approach to program level SAFe suitable for your unique situation. By contrasting principles and practises this session will: * draw out the principles behind SAFe and the standard SAFe practises that apply to them, * show how practises from other scaling models align to SAFe principles and compliment program level SAFe; and, * share real word examples of how adapting SAFe practises, while remaining aligned to the principles, can help you create a working model applicable to your program

The Atlassian User Group (AUG) program built a culture of community that includes over 130 groups around the world and continues to grow 60% YoY, thanks to a team of passionate volunteer leaders and members. Building a focused and motivated team across the globe isn't easy, but we'll share the foundation to the user group community's success along with take-aways for attendees looking to build successful teams of their own. In this unique session, we will highlight the Atlassian User Group culture by presenting elements of a real user group event and provide meaningful information for attendees, including the opportunity to sign up and experience the user group team culture themselves.

What happens when an organization’s learning management system misses the mark in delivering a culture of learning? It’s a complicated and challenging decision, but if an LMS fails to meet the educational needs of customers, training needs of employees and business goals of the organization, an enterprise redeployment may be necessary. During this spotlight webinar, Arthur Harrington, director of education at Imprivata — a health care IT security company — will share how he made the tough choices to rethink, redesign and redeploy the organization’s LMS. During this Spotlight Webinar, viewers will: Realize when it is time to take your medicine and let stakeholders know “we’re starting over from scratch.” Learn how to balance training needs and business needs as you plan your LMS deployment (and plan for its growth). Appreciate what it takes to maintain and scale your learning management system.

Starting, building and operating a nonprofit organization is done under conditions of extreme uncertainty, but we plan with confidence. Enormous energy is put into Five Year Strategic Plans, Annual Plans and Quarterly plans, but then real life intrudes and the reality is that there's only the vaguest resemblance between our plans and our actual work. So much wasted time! There's got to be a better way. Kayvon Khalilzadeh of Lean Startup Vancouver will introduce us to the concept of the lean startup Lean Startup is a methodology that favours experimentation over elaborate planning, customer feedback over intuition, and iterative design over traditional “big design up front” development. Although the methodology is just a few years old, its concepts—such as “minimum viable product” and “pivoting” have quickly taken root in the start-up world. Now it's time for the nonprofit sector to adopt this innovative approach. Slides from @kayvonk
