ELECTRONS IN SOLIDS
 In solid, the electrons number 1028 per m3
and interact with one another.
 The atoms are independent and have
electron energy levels appropriate to the
single atoms.
 For example: hypothetical eight atom
molecule
2
3
 When the number of atoms (N) are very
large as in solids…….
 Joining of atoms to form the molecules
does not alter with quantum number
FUNDAMENTALS OF BONDING IN SOLIDS
 Interatomic binding forces between atoms are called as chemical bonds.
 Process of holding the atoms, ions & molecules at different spacing levels are
called as bonding
 Primary bonds & secondary bonds
 Bondings are classified into four classes.
