Introduction
 Automatic Phase Selector : When an electric utility outage occurs, the
Transfer Switch will switch to the backup source.
 With priority based sources having top priority to R (electric utility) and second
and third to remaining available sources like solar and inverter.
 The Internet-of-Things Energy Meter (IEM) is a device fixed on top of the
regular household power meter that provides detailed information about the
electricity usage.
 Modern power meters have a LED blinking every time a watt-hour is used, the
IEM detects these flashes using a interrupt, counts them, then the data is stored
to the cloud
 Overall the project is aimed to make electricity user friendly with giving them
information regarding their usage of utilities and consumption in a cloud.

Problem Identification
 In the earlier system there was no provision of informing the user and supplier
about the live source and power consumption.
 Also there wasn’t any provision of selecting the available sources by the users
according to their need.
 This problem can be easily solved by installing device ( wifi module &
Bluetooth module) that can inform the user in this reg.
 Working in this direction, it would be revolutionary to install such a system that
can provide user the flexibility and providing the knowledge of point to point
power consumption.

Objectives
 Our main objective is to :
 Develop a Arduino based auto phase selector & IoT metering system for
the real time monitoring for making electricity usage more user friendly.
 To install a Bluetooth module that provide the user an option to opt for a
desirous available sources.
 To install an IoT based webpage to collect energy consumption data and
sources in use.
 And program it and interface it with the main system so as to make it better to
be used by users and electricity grid for getting updated with having knowledge
of load under usage.

Methodology
The main system can be divided into 3 blocks.
➢ First block (Bluetooth module) : the module provides the platform to select the
available sources to users.
➢ Second block(Wi-Fi module): which is responsible for generating the webpage
containing information regarding the source under use and consumption of
electric power.
➢ Third block(microcontroller): the inputs of both the above blocks are fed to the
microcontroller which update and communicate the

Component used
 Wi-Fi module(ESP8266), works on 5 to 3 volt, memory size 512 KB to 1 MB.
 Bluetooth module(BC417) works on 3.3 volt and 50 mA.
 Transformer(step down) 230/12 volt.
 Capacitor 1000/10 micro farad, 25 volt.
 Opto-coupler (white packaged) transfers electrical energy between two isolated circuits by using
light.
 Diode and resistors.
 Voltage Regulator (L7805) converts 12 volt to 5 volt.
 LED
 Relay (HL10QC), SPDT (Single pole double throw) type.

Department Of Electrical Engineering Bhilai Institute Of Technology, Bhilai House, Durg, 491001 Introduction  Automatic Phase Selector : When an electric utility outage occurs, the Transfer Switch will switch to the backup source.  With priority based sources having top priority to R (electric utility) and second and third to remaining available sources like solar and inverter.  The Internet-of-Things Energy Meter (IEM) is a device fixed on top of the regular household power meter that provides detailed information about the electricity usage.  Modern power meters have a LED blinking every time a watt-hour is used, the IEM detects these flashes using a interrupt, counts them, then the data is stored to the cloud  Overall the project is aimed to make electricity user friendly with giving them information regarding their usage of utilities and consumption in a cloud. Department Of Electrical Engineering Bhilai Institute Of Technology, Bhilai House, Durg, 491001 Methodology The main system can be divided into 3 blocks. ➢ First block (Bluetooth module) : the module provides the platform to select the available sources to users. ➢ Second block(Wi-Fi module): which is responsible for generating the webpage containing information regarding the source under use and consumption of electric power. ➢ Third block(microcontroller): the inputs of both the above blocks are fed to the microcontroller which update and communicate the EE, BIT DURG 06
