Li-Fi is a technology that uses light from LED bulbs to transmit data wirelessly. It works by varying the intensity of LED light faster than the human eye can detect. As demand for wireless data doubles every year, Li-Fi offers a solution to overcome radio spectrum congestion by using the visible light spectrum. Li-Fi has potential applications in traffic lights, intrinsically safe environments like oil rigs, and public internet hotspots using street lamps. It may also enable underwater communication where Wi-Fi fails. While still developing, Li-Fi shows promise as a way to turn every light bulb into a wireless data connection point.
2. LI-FI is transmission of data through illumination
,sending data through aLEDlight bulb that varies in
intensity faster than human eyecanfollow
3. The technology trulybegan
during the 1990's in
countries like
Germany, Korea, andJapan
where they discovered
LED's could be retrofitted
to send information. Harald
Haascontinues to wow the
world with the potential to
uselight forcommunication

6. RadioSpectrum is congested but the demand
for wireless data double each year .Every
thing, it seemswant to usewireless data but
the capacity is drying up.
Sowhat cancarry this excessdemand in the
future .

9. operational procedure is very simple, if the led is on, you
transmit adigital 1, if its off you transmit a0. The LEDscan be
switched on and off very quickly, which gives nice opportunities
for transmitting data. Hence all that usrequired is some LEDS
and acontroller that codedata into those LEDs.

Infrared
Rays
Visible
Rays
Ultraviolet
Rays
X- Rays
Gama Rays
Gama rays cant be used as they could be dangerous.
X-rays have similar health issues.
Ultraviolet light is good for place without people, but other wise
dangerous for the human body.
Infrared, due to eye safety regulation, can only bse used with low
power.
HENCE WE LEFT WITH THE ONLY THE VISIBLE- LIGHT SPECTRUM.
11. LUXIM is a privately owned clean tech
company based in Sunnyvale, California
which was founded in 2000.
12. Luxim offers three unique
products for usein technical
lighting. LIFI4KP is intended
for visible light applications
including generalmicroscopy,
machine vision, and
inspection. LIFI4KT is a
broadband source that
includes bothUVAand visible
region ofthe spectrum.
LIFI4KU is amercury source
withstrong spectral emission
lines down to 320nm for UV
curing, fluorescenceimaging,
and UVprinting.
13. Li Fitechnologyis still in its infancy .However some areaswhere it seems
perfectly applicableare:-
TRAFFICLIGHTS
Traffic lights cancommunicate to the carand with eachother.
CarshaveLED-basedheadlights,LED-basedcacklights, and cars
can communicate with each other and prevent accidents in by
exchanginginformation.
14. INTRINSICALLY SAFE ENCIRONMENTS
Visible Light is more safe than RF,henceit canbe used in places
where RFcan't be used such aspetrochemical plants , airplanes
etc.
PUBLIC INTERNETHOTSPOTS
There aremillions of street lampsdeployed around the world.
Eachof these street lampscould be afree accesspoint.
15. ON OCEAN BEDS
Li-Fi caneven wok underwater wereWi-Fi fails completely,
thereby throwing open endless opportunities for
military/navigation operations.
16. CONCLUSION
The possibilities are numerous and
can be explored further. If this
technology can be put into practical
use , every bulb can be used
something like a Wi-Fi hotspots to
transmit wireless data.
