• A pneumothorax usually is diagnosed through
a physical exam and a chest X-ray.
Tests that may be ordered include:
• Arterial blood gases and other blood tests.
• Chest x-ray.
• CT scan if other injuries or conditions are suspected.
• Electrocardiogram.

• Arterial blood gases:
are a measurement of how much O2
And Co2 are in the blood. They also
determine the acidity (pH) of the blood.
The test is used to:
• Evaluate respiratory diseases and conditions that
affect the lungs.

Abnormal results may be due to lung
Diseases or other injuries that affect breathing
