3. INTRODUCTION TO LI-FI
• Li-Fi is a technology that uses the Light Emitting
Diodes to transmit data wirelessly.
• Fast and Cheap optical version of Wi-Fi, based
on VLC.
• VLC is a Data Communication medium which
uses the visible light between 400 THz (780
nm) and 800 THz (375 nm) as optical carrier for
data transmission
7. • The heart of the technology is the generation
of high brightness LEDs.
• If LED is ON, transmit a digital signal 1 and if
the LED is OFF transmit a digital signal 0.
• Controller is connected at the back side of
these bulbs are used to code this LEDs
8. Li-Fi Vs Wi-Fi
Data Transfer Speed
• Li-Fi has a High
speed data transfer
rate over 1Gbps.
• Li-Fi uses the
Visible portion of the
EM
• Wi-Fi has a maximum
data transfer rate of
54Mbps.
• Wi-Fi uses the Radio
wave portion of EM.
9. Issues with Radiowave and an
Alternative
Capacity
Efficiency
Security
Availability
More Expensive
10. Contd.
• Can it be IR,UV,GAMMA or X-Rays? – No
All the above rays are harmful to human being
when exposed to different proportions.
So, We are left only with Visible spectrum
11. Pros of Li-Fi technology
Capacity.
Efficiency.
Security.
Availability.
Installed in all places.
No License needed.
Millions of street lights can be converted into
efficient Li-Fi spots.
12. Is it a proven technology?
• Yes, this is a proven technology.
• Harald Haas demonstrated this technology
using an ordinary table LED lamp that
successfully transmitted data at speeds
10Mbps.
• To prove that the light is the source for data
streaming he periodically blocked the light, to
made the connection drop.
13. Future Technology
• 10Gbps data transmission is recently achieved
through Li-fi, while others didn’t.
• Spectrum is more broader and less cost
compared to RW spectrum which is more
expensive today.
• Installed easily in all areas and more secure
among hackers.
