• Online social networking and microblogging service.
• Created in March 2006.
• Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass.
• Launched- July 2006.
• Worldwide popularity
500 million registered users in 2012
340 million tweets per day.
• 1.6 billion search queries per day.
• In 2013 Twitter was one of the ten most-visited websites
• “The SMS of the Internet”.
4. Brief History. . .
• Dorsey, introduced the idea.
• The original project code name for the service was twttr.
• Work on the project started on March 21, 2006
• The definition of twitter
'a short burst of insignificant information,'
‘chirps from birds’
• Full version was introduced publicly on July 15, 2006.
• Twitter spun off into its own company in April 2007.
• In August 2010, Adam Bain was appointed as President of
revenue.
5. LOGO
• Twitter has become internationally identifiable by its
signature bird logo.
• Original logo was in use from March 2006-September
2010.
• February 27, 2012, "Larry the Bird" logo was revealed that
it was named after Larry Bird of the NBA's Boston Celtics
fame.
• June 5, 2012–present. Twitter unveiled its third logo
redesign, replacing Larry the Bird with an updated icon
simply named as the "Twitter Bird."

• Limit-140 characters.
• Publicly visible by default.
• Users can restrict them to their followers only.
• Retweeting (RT) is when a tweet is forwarded via
Twitter by users.
• Users may subscribe to other users' tweets – known as
"following“.
• Users can also block others users.
8. Format
• Users can post by use of hashtags – words or
phrases prefixed with a "#" sign.
• "@" sign followed by a username is used for
mentioning or replying.
• To repost a message from another the retweet
function is symbolized by RT.
9. Trending
• A word, phrase or topic that is tagged at a
greater rate than other tags is said to be a
"trending topic".
• These topics help Twitter and their users to
understand what is happening in the world
10. Verified Accounts
• A verified Twitter account lets users know the
person or company that owns the account is who
they say they are.
• A small blue checkmark by the top-right corner
of a user’s page.
• Twitter chooses who gets a verified blue
checkmark.
• Famous people in politics, music, movies, business,
fashion, government, sports, media etc.
11. Ranking • Twitter is ranked as one of the ten-most-visited websites
worldwide.
• Daily user estimates vary as the company does not publish
statistics.
• Twitter as the third most used social network based on their
count of
6 million unique monthly visitors
55 million monthly visits.
• March 2009, a Nielsen.com blog ranked Twitter as the
fastest-growing website.
• 2009, Twitter had a monthly user retention rate of forty
percent.
