4. The theme of The Legend of Maria Makiling
is about loving your fellow people. If you
have a grudge to someone and carry it
throughout your whole life, it has a no good
destination. It also would not be good for
you. We must learn how to accept failure or
defeat, and forgive someone. Don't have
anger, envy or jealousy to others just like
Captain Lara and Joselito did. They have
done evil things to Juan and led it to his
death. Maria Makiling made a revenge for
Juan and cursed Capitan Lara and Joselito
because of what they did to his love. They
have no love for other people. They only
think about themselves. Even though they
both love Maria, they hurt the one that Maria
loves. In the end Maria cursed them, they
suffered and that's what you call karma. So
the lesson or message of this story is don't
do to others what you don't want them to do
to you.

7. Maria Makiling have a unique beauty. But
not just physical appearance is beatiful
for her, as well as her will. She likes
helping other people. She was helpful to
her neighbors and because of that she
was liked by the townspeople. Captain
Lara was a Spanish Soldier. He admired
Maria Makiling and he is good to her. He
always brought her gifts from Europe.
Joselito was a Spanish mestizo who was
studying in Manila. He also admired Maria
Makiling and also good to her. He have
many stories to tell to Maria about other
countries and the things he read in books.
But he doesn't like the Philippines and
wants to go home in Spain. Juan is
exceptional of them all. He was a
hardworking farmer. He is so hardworking
and he carefully grow in his crops. He is
also loving to his pet animals

8. MOTIVATION

9. Captain Lara and Joselito have
bad intentions because there's
anger, envy and jealousy on
them. They hate Juan because
he was chosen by Maria
Makiling and she loved him.
Because of that, they thought
of a plan against him.

11. For Maria, she always help others
when she needs her. And for the
suitors of Maria, they get impatient
to the answer of Maria. And they
can’t accept failure in love. For Juan,
he is the most industrious among
the suitors of Maria.
