1. IELTS Writing Task 2 Pattern

2. IELTS Writing Task
● IELTS Writing module is divided into 2 tasks, Task 1 and Task 2.
● Task 1 is different for both Academics and General training
IELTS test
● Academics- Task 1 is a Report Writing task
● General Training- It comprises of Letter Writing
● The following slides will discuss the writing task 2 pattern which
can be used by both Academic and General Training IELTS Test
candidates.

4. AGREE or DISAGREE
Introduction- Should contain 2-3 sentences:
- Paraphrase the Question in sentence 1.
- Thesis statement (Whether you agree or disagree or partially agree)
- Conclusion Statement (What will the following essay discuss)
Paragraph 1- Mention the main body points (2-3), give examples (if any)
Paragraph 2- Mention other supporting points (1-2) and support with an
example.
Conclusion- Re-verify your opinion and conclude the essay.
6. Advantage and Disadvantage
Introduction:
● Paraphrasing the question
● Mention whether advantages
of the topic outweighs the
disadvantages (or the other
way round)
● Conclude (The essay will
discuss the pros and cons..)
Paragraph 1: Mention the
advantages
Paragraph 2: Mention the
disadvantages
Conclusion: Conclude by
evaluating all the points
whether pros are more or cons
are more and what steps can
be taken to maintain the
advantages or improve the
disadvantages.

8. Problem and Solution
Introduction:
- Paraphrase the question- Write
the problem in your own words
without copying the question.
- Thesis statement- Mention that
though the problem exist but
there are many solutions to curb
the situation
- Conclude the Introduction
paragraph and mention what
this essay will deal in
Paragraph 1- Mention the problem
and its causes. (You can make a
separate paragraph for causes if you
wish.)
Paragraph 2- Mention the possible
solutions
Conclusion- Conclude the essay
(eg: The problem should be attended
immediately before it takes a grave
turn and harm a larger population)
10. Both Views and Your Opinion
Introduction:
Paraphrase both the views (You can use 2 different sentences for both
views separately)
Conclude- (eg: This essay will shed light on both the views and share your
opinion hereafter. )
Paragraph 1- Mention first view with supporting points
Paragraph 2- Mention second view with supporting points
Conclusion- Conclude the essay by sharing your opinin
