2. IELTS Listening Test
IELTS Test is divided into 4 modules, each carrying 9 bands.
IELTS Listening test is one of them. It analyses the English listening
and understanding ability of the candidate.
One must be able to understand the listening test and answer the
questions with the most appropriate answer.
The following slides share some very useful advice regarding the
module.
3. Scoring in IELTS Listening Test
The scoring strategy for both GT and
Academic students is same. Thus, the
preparation is done in a similar way.
Maintain a habit of listening to
conversations in English. The best way
to do this is to watch english movies
with subtitles.
4. Multi tasking
The recording is played only once and you would not be able to
hear it again.
Also, multitasking is an important part of the listening test as one
has to read, listen and write simultaneously. Therefore, practise
-to read what the question is
-listen what the answer is
-write the answer according to the instructions
5. Time is the secret to success
Listening test takes 40 minutes to complete
-30 minutes for the test.
-10 minutes to transfer your answers neatly on the answer sheet.
While you are training for the IELTS test, you should always do it
in a time bound manner. This will help you during the actual test.
6. “Guess..!!”
The best part of IELTS is there is no negative
marking.
So, even if you do not know the correct answer,
always make a guess. There will be 2 scenarios
after this:
-If you are lucky, your answer may be correct
and you will score 1 mark.
-When your answer is incorrect, you would not
lose any points for it. Thus, it is a no loss deal..!!
7. Instructions are important..
Always read the instructions carefully before you start writing
your answer. There are 4 sections in the test and they can have
different instructions to attempt the questions.
● Eg- Write no more than 2 words and/or a number
Here, you are allowed to write “2 words only OR 2 words along
with a (ONLY ONE) number”
● It is very important to check if the question allows you to have
more than 1 word or number as an answer, i.e., check if
Number (Singular) is allowed or Numbers (Plural) are allowed.
8. Focus-Focus-Focus
As earlier mentioned, you can
listen to the recording only
once. So, maintaining focus is
of utmost importance. If you
lose focus, you may skip
answers and would not be
able to score.
There may be times that you
may find answers
continuously while sometimes
your answers are available at
varied gaps.
Always concentrate on the
recording as you may not
want to take chances.
