1. An automobile is a self – propelled vehicle which is used
for the transportation of passengers and cargo over the
ground.
2. A vehicle is a machine which is used for the
transportation of passengers
3. A self – propelled vehicle is that in which power required
for the propulsion is produced from within.
Eg: Aeroplane, Ship, Moto Boat, Locomotive, Car, Bus, Truck, Jeep,
Tractor, Scooter etc. 4

1. Engine: It produces power to move the vehicle.
2. Power Train: It is used to transmit the power from the engine to the
drive wheels.
3. Suspension System: It absorbs the shocks on the tyres caused by
bumps and holes in the road.
4. Steering System: To control the direction of vehicle.
5. Braking System: To slow and stop the vehicle.
6. Electrical System: For powering the light, charging of battery and
other electrical equipment
7. A Body: Body provides enclosures or compartment for the engine,
passengers and luggage.
