Objet : Recogni on of Foreign Qualifica ons - ECTS - HIGH IMPORTANT - ASAP
Hello Dear officers at departments,
How are you doing?
I would like to mention for your interest following issue where is options for improvement,
especially at:
1. Policies and Procedures for the Recognition of Foreign Qualifications.
2. A typical "first cycle" (or Bachelor's) Degree, would consist of 180 or 240 credits, whereas a
typical "second cycle" (or Master's) Degree, would consist of 90 or 120 credits, with at least 60
credits at second cycle level. The use of ECTS at the "third cycle" (or Ph.D. level) varies.
3. ECTS has been adopted by most of the countries in the European Higher Education
Area(EHEA), and is increasingly used elsewhere.
4. The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a student-centred system
for credit transfer and accumulation that was initially developed to facilitate student mobility
in the Erasmus programme. The ECTS convention is that 60 credits measures the workload of
a full-time student during one academic year. The student workload of a full-time study
programme in Europe amounts in most cases to 36/40 weeks per year and in those cases one
credit is assigned to 25 to 30 working hours (1 ECTS = 25/30 working hours). Workload refers
to the notional time an average learner might expect to complete the required learning
outcomes.
5. ECTS makes study programmes easier to read and compare for all students, local and foreign;
as such, it facilitates mobility and academic recognition.
6. In sum: student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering
educational excellence and ensuring equal access.
7. Btw. Standards and processes of the accrediting organization should be consistent with the
academic quality, improvement.
8. U.S. higher education institutions that admit European students are aware of the Diploma
Supplement, as are U.S. credential evaluation services. The Diploma Supplement is not a
feature of U.S. higher education and has not been adopted in the United States. However,
some U.S. institutions may - at their discretion and upon request - supply a version of the
Diploma Supplement to students or graduates who seek to study within the European Higher
Education Area. This is not a requirement and is purely voluntary. There exists no law or
authority in the decentralized U.S. higher education system that can mandate such a
document or policy.
In this context, what is mentioned above, I woud like to require for U.S. credential evaluation
services of all my qualifications in terms of completion of my degree for my academic career and
achievements. There is no space for questioning of all my knowledge and academic activities.
