Dear Antonia,
Thank you for your email inquiry about Harvard Business School doctoral programs.
Doctoral students at HBS have the opportunity to conduct innovative research within a broad range of
academic disciplines. Fields of specialization within the doctoral programs include Accounting and
Management; Marketing; Management; Strategy; and Technology and Operations Management. HBS, in
conjunction with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, also offers joint doctoral programs in Business
Economics (including Finance), Organizational Behavior, and Health Policy Management. All programs are
research intensive doctoral programs that lead to a career in business academia. Please see
h p://www.hbs.edu/doctoral/areas-of-study/Pages/default.aspx for detailed information about our
programs.
Each year, Harvard receives between 600 and 900 doctoral applications, and each year approximately 20-30
students join the programs. Successful applicants have excellent records of academic achievement,
demonstrated analytical ability and potential as researchers, and aspirations for a career in business academia.
To be considered for the program, students must hold the equivalent of a US bachelor’s degree from
institutions of recognized standing (either a three of four year undergraduate degree). Applicants who are
unsure of the US equivalency of their degree(s) should consult a reputable credential evaluation service.
Applications for Fall 2018 will be available in September 2017. Application requirements include: an online
application, a resume, a Statement of Purpose, transcripts, three letters of recommendation, standardized tests,
and an application fee. Research papers, publications, and other original works may also be considered by the
admissions committees during their evaluations.
All applicants, regardless of background, must have taken either the GMAT or the GRE between December 1,
2012 and December 1, 2017 for Fall 2018 enrollment. Official scores must be forwarded to Harvard by ETS.
While HBS Doctoral Programs does not have minimum score requirements for these exams, successful
applicants generally score in the 80th and 90th percentiles. This requirement cannot be waived.
Non-native English speakers are required to submit TOEFL IBT (internet based) scores. Submitted scores
must not be older than two years, and must be from a test taken between December 1, 2015 and December 1,
2017 for Fall 2018 enrollment. This requirement may only be waived if the applicant's native language is
English or he/she submits a transcript indicating successful completion of a Bachelor degree at an English-
speaking college or university. A Master’s degree will not supersede a Bachelor’s in this case. Because of
the rigorous nature of the academic coursework at Harvard, the committee prefers scores of at least 100 on the
internet-based test.
To offset the cost of pursuing a degree, HBS offers fellowships to all doctoral students, including international
students. This fellowship pays for tuition, a living stipend ($41,100 for 2017-2018 academic year) and single

person health care. The fellowship is renewable to provide support for up to five years of doctoral education.
For more information about financial aid, please see h p://www.hbs.edu/doctoral/admissions/Pages/costs-
financial-support.aspx.
The average time to program completion is 5 years. Students generally spend the first 2 years on coursework
and developing their research ideas, and the remainder of the time conducting further research and defending
their dissertations. The coursework for all doctoral programs must be completed full-time and while in
residence. There are no options for distance learning, online courses, part-time residency, or
evening/weekend classes.
We hope this is helpful, and invite you to explore the opportunities at our school. If you have other questions,
please do not hesitate to contact us. We wish you the best in your endeavors.
Best regards,

Good Afternoon Antonia Ficova,
Unfortunately, the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) is not the resource or service you need to
move forward.
The best path is to first know who needs to know your educational comparability in the US, for example a school
(university) you wish to attend within the US or a potential employer. They will have their own specific procedure
for you to follow in terms of what evaluation service they accept.
Thank you,
Kaitlin Scanlan

Subject: Recognition of Foreign Qualifications - ECTS - HIGH IMPORTANT - ASAP
Hello Dear officers at departments,
How are you doing?

I would like to mention for your interest following issue where is options for improvement, especially at:
1. Policies and Procedures for the Recognition of Foreign Qualifications.
2. A typical "first cycle" (or Bachelor's) Degree, would consist of 180 or 240 credits, whereas a typical "second cycle" (or
Master's) Degree, would consist of 90 or 120 credits, with at least 60 credits at second cycle level. The use of ECTS at the
"third cycle" (or Ph.D. level) varies.
3. ECTS has been adopted by most of the countries in the European Higher Education Area(EHEA), and is increasingly
used elsewhere.
4. The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a student-centred system for credit transfer and
accumulation that was initially developed to facilitate student mobility in the Erasmus programme. The ECTS convention is
that 60 credits measures the workload of a full-time student during one academic year. The student workload of a full-time
study programme in Europe amounts in most cases to 36/40 weeks per year and in those cases one credit is assigned to 25
to 30 working hours (1 ECTS = 25/30 working hours). Workload refers to the notional time an average learner might expect
to complete the required learning outcomes.
5. ECTS makes study programmes easier to read and compare for all students, local and foreign; as such, it facilitates mobility
and academic recognition.
6. In sum: student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring
equal access.
7. Btw. Standards and processes of the accrediting organization should be consistent with the academic quality, improvement.
8. U.S. higher education institutions that admit European students are aware of the Diploma Supplement, as are U.S.
credential evaluation services. The Diploma Supplement is not a feature of U.S. higher education and has not been adopted
in the United States. However, some U.S. institutions may - at their discretion and upon request - supply a version of the
Diploma Supplement to students or graduates who seek to study within the European Higher Education Area. This is not a
requirement and is purely voluntary. There exists no law or authority in the decentralized U.S. higher education system that
can mandate such a document or policy.
In this context, what is mentioned above, I woud like to require for U.S. credential evaluation services of all my qualifications in
terms of completion of my degree for my academic career and achievements. There is no space for questioning of all my knowledge
and academic activities.
If the content of this email doesn´t include agenda of your duties, please feel free to forward this to reliable person in time.
Thank you for your consideration, effort, time,
Have a nice day,
ANTÓNIA
