3. Honeywell UOP – About the company
• Honeywell UOP, formerly known as Universal Oil Products, is a
multi-national company developing and delivering technology to the
petroleum refining, gas processing, petrochemical production, and
major manufacturing industries.
• The company's roots date back to 1914, when the revolutionary
Dubbs thermal cracking process created the technological
foundation for today's modern refining industry. In the ensuing
decades, UOP engineers generated thousands of patents, leading
to important advances in process technology, profitability
consultation, and equipment design.
4. Introduction
Understand General Operating Manual and PFDs of Merox
process extraction technology.
Understand General Operating Manual and PFDs of Merox
process unit - Caustic conventional fixed bed sweetening.
Customized and developed 3 GOMs of one of the Honeywell UOP
client by modifying the master GOM as per plant specifications by
referring Schedule A of the projects respectively.
5. Merox Extraction Process
Pre
Treatment
• Amine Treating Unit
• Caustic Prewash
• Enhanced Caustic Prewash (new design)
Merox
Operation
• Extractor or Extractor Plus (Mercapton Extraction)
• Oxidizer (Mercapton Oxidation)
• Disulfide Separator (Disulfide Separation)
Post
Treatment
• Caustic Knockout Drum
• COS Removal Section
• Sand Filter
10. Sweetening Catalysts
• Catalyst
- Merox FB: Requires site impregnation on charcoal.
- Merox No. 8: pre impregnated catalyst loaded directly into reactor.
- Merox No. 10: specially formulated pre impregnated catalyst having high
catalytic activity.
- Merox Plus: Liquid Activator for activity promoter.
11. My Project
General Operating Manual (GOM)
• It lists down sequential information about Process Variables, equipments,
chemistry involved, Startup/ shut down & commissioning activities along
with other unit specific details provided by UOP to help refiner operate the
unit in proper manner.
• It also consists of all special procedures (loading, etc.), analytical schedule,
and key troubleshooting scenarios.
• The purpose is to help operator get familiarize with all unit procedures and
help refiner to develop detailed SOP’s (standard operating procedures)
based on it.
12. My Project
• Developed 3 GOMs for a Honeywell UOP client; 2 for Merox extraction
process and 1 for the Merox sweetening process.
• Customized all of them as per the schedule A projects given respectively
for each plant. Customizations include:
- Studying the Master GOM thoroughly.
- Making it plant specific by editing equipment information, information on normal
operations, suggested analytical schedule and process flow and control
configurations.
- Additionally operating variables such as temperature and pressure of different
streams were added along with other peculiar information of that plant such as
equipment tag nos., equipment specific details, etc.
- Finally the start up and shut down content were customized specific to unit with
addition of sequential steps during start up activities.
