2. In conversation, we sometimes use
get + past participle instead of
be + past participle for the passive.
A: Who got offered the job?
B: I haven’t heard.
A: What happened to Jeremy?
B: He got caught skipping class.
3. We usually use get + past participle to express a
change of situation or condition. For example:
get offered
get blamed
get caught
get done
get hurt
get invited
get killed
get left
get asked
get paid
get promoted
get elected
get fired
get hit
4. The passive with get is often (but not always)
used when there is a negative result.
A: How did you get hurt?
B: I got hit by a golf ball.
A: Are you going to Yan’s dinner?
B: No, I didn’t get invited.
5. Notice that we use the helping verb do in
questions and negative statements with get.
Did she get fired?
(= Was she fired?)
They didn’t get paid for their work.
(= They weren’t paid for their work.)
