FACTORY FARMING
Eating animals is just a story told in our cultures
• Our diet is a learned behaviour
• We might’ve been told to eat cows, but to love dogs
• In other cultures this might be totally different
If shown different animals, does a baby know which
animal to eat and which one to play with?
or
If you place an apple and a chick in a baby’s crib – do you
think the baby will play with the apple and eat the chick?
 humans have zero carnivorous instinct!
In Finland we slaughter:
• 64 million chickens (broilers)
• 2,2 million pigs
• 270 000 cows
• + countless of other species annually
Globally we kill over 70 billion land
animals – more than 6 million animals
every hour!
Over 90% of all meat, eggs and dairy is
factory farmed.
The number of fish caught and farmed
is somewhere between 1-2,7 trillion
annually.
The point of veganism is
that eating meat nowadays
is totally unnecessary
What about humane slaughter?
How do you slaughter something humanely?
You cannot do anything violent humanely.
”You can’t live without meat!”
 Processed meats cause cancer (World Health Organization)
 Meat is full of saturated fat, which clogs your arteries, as does
dietary cholesterol
 Meat has zero fiber
 Animal protein is very different from plant proteins:
• Your stomach isn’t acidic enough to break it all down
• Your intestinal tract is too long (for carninovorous animals
it’s short), and rotting meat can stay in your system from 20-
48 hours
”But meat has all the essential aminoacids, antioxidants, and minerals!”
And do you know why that is? Because the animal is fed the plant foods and
nutrients YOU need.
There is no need to filter your nutrients through another living being!
WHAT
ABOUT
MILK?
Dairy farming is one of the cruelest things for the animals:
• Like any other mammal, cows have to be pregnant to produce
milk
• Most cows are forcibly inseminated and carry their calf for 9
months
• Even in organic farming, the babies are taken away and have
their horns burned off
• The cows are bred so that they produce more milk than their
baby would ever need
Females are made into milk machines and the males are sent to
slaughter or breeding
Why is dairy so cruel? The cows are enslaved for 4-5 years until
their bodies give up (they can actually live up to 20 years!)
Cows milk is made for the calf and it’s supposed to
make that calf grow to over 500 kg.
It’s baby calf growth food! Why do we need cow’s milk
any more than dog, rhino, horse or chimpanzee milk?
Five health reasons not to drink cows milk:
1. Less dairy, better bones. Countries with lowest
rates of dairy and calcium consumption (like
those in Africa and Asia) have the lowest rates of
osteoporosis.
2. Milk doesn’t reduce fractures. Contrary to
popular belief, eating dairy products has never
been shown to reduce fracture risk.
3. Dairy has been linked to prostate cancer, sinus
problems, constipation, diabetes…
4. Saturated fat and dietary cholesterol cause
heart disease, clogged arteries and strokes.
5. Estrogen from milk can cause acne and bloating
of sexual organs.
Solution? plant milks!
Soy milk, almond milk,
coconut milk, hazelnut
milk, rice milk…...
BUT EGGS ARE SUPER HEALTHY,
You know how we found out saturated fat and dietary cholesterol are harmful?
Ethical reasons for not eating eggs:
 All laying chicken are killed after
approximately a year
 With breeding, and lights that are kept on for
20-22 hours a day, chicken today lay 30%
more eggs than in the 90’s
 63% live in cages and 33% on cage free
farms, where the lack of space can cause
pecking of feathers and cannibalism
 All male chicks are gassed or chopped to
death within a day of their birth
”But what do vegans eat???”
”Regular” food pyramid
 No cholesterol!
Has anyone ever gotten heart disease,
strokes or cancer from eating too many
fruit and vegetables? What about high
cholesterol, diabetes, obesity?
Studies have found these are all diseases
that can be caused by animal products.
Not only is eating plant based the
healthiest way of eating,
it can actually reverse disease!
 Watch Dr.
Michael Greger’s
’Uprooting the
Leading Causes of
Death’ and other
interesting lectures
on YouTube!
(nutritionfacts.org)
But I can’t
possibly be
muscular or
athletic as a
vegan??
Literally everything has protein in it, but in case you’re still not convinced;
Can’t live without processed foods? No problem!
•
MEAT CONSUMPTION IS THE LEADING CAUSE OF CLIMATE CHANGE
 91% of amazon destruction is by animal agriculture
 One hamburger = 2500 litres of water = 2 months of
showering
 Eating meat takes 12x more water than eating plant
based
 1/3 of earth’s land is crops for livestock
 We could see fishless oceans by 2048
 1,5 acres of land = 17,000 kg of plant food, but just
170 kg of meat
 we currently grow enough plant food for
10 billion people
ANIMAL AGRICULTURE IS THE LEADING
CAUSE OF SPECIES EXTINCTION, OCEAN
DEAD ZONES, WATER POLLUTION, AND
HABITAT DESTRUCTION.
 40% of caught fish/sea creatures are discarded
 depleted oxygen levels ocean dead
