24. • An experimental study was conducted in phase I
1st year medical students of 2014-2015 batch
(n=120) with the aim of adopting problem solving
approach by relating basic science with related
clinical scenario through self learning. On the day
of session students were grouped into small
groups 15 each. Session started with the
facilitator starting off the discussion. Feedback
from 5 students from each group was taken
(n=40). A five point likert scale was used ranging
from strongly agree to strongly disagree.

25. • Results: results showed that 70% of students
opined that small group discussions were
interactive, built interaction between teacher
and student and friendly. Small group
discussion increased their thought process
and helped them in better communication.
• Conclusion: small group discussions are more
effective than the traditional teaching
method.
