Case Analysis Guidelines
Weightage: 15%
Guidelines:
1. Practically all the data required to develop an analytical perspective is provided in the case;
however, if need be, reasonable assumptions may be made by the group.
2. The case describes a situation, provides data points and sheds light on issues of contention.
3. While interpretations and implications from your own calculations are welcome, groups would
be evaluated on their ability to present a strong connection between business operations and
financial outcomes. You are mainly expected to assess and present how various business
decisions and activities cause various, and differential, financial impacts for shareholders
and bondholders. Your ability to draw insights and connections from data provided in the case
(if needed, using simple calculations) would be noted. Where possible, graphical presentation of
your analysis is encouraged.
4. Groups are expected to work on the perspective of understanding a business model and the
intricacies of business; (which, in oversimplification will be: how various business decisions
would affect the firm financially. Highlight short-term and long-term financial challenges and
relevant, context-specific business ideas to address them.)
5. The presentation should be in the form of a continuous narrative; all members of the group
are required to present. Each group will have a maximum of 10 minutes to present. Any group
member who fails to present would forfeit the marks.
6. The total weight-age (of 15%) is split into two parts: 10% for demonstrating a clear
understanding of business, providing financial analytical perspective and highlighting new
learnings, and 5% for the write-up provided.
7. Each group is expected to submit a printed 4-page (excluding cover pages and annexures)
hard-copy of write-up.
8. Each group should submit a zip file containing the PPT and write-up via the section CR. The
section CR would combine all the submissions (i.e. 12 zip files) and mail it across to me as a
single zip file with an appropriate file name (e.g. “FM2_Case_Analysis_SectionA.zip”) by the
stipulated deadline.
9. You may submit the hard-copy of the write-up to the PGDM office the next day.
10. The deadline for submission is: February 24th, 2015, latest by 11 pm.
