Against Freedom of Speech.
Free speech is the notion that that every individual is allowed to communicate their ideas
or opinion without being censored or without being retaliated, or no legal sanctions laid against
him or her even if they uttered words have massive consequences in the society. Free speech in
most part of the world is recognized as a human right. The freedom include freedom to receive,
impact and seek information regardless of frontiers. Despite freedom of speech being formally
instituted for people to expresses their feelings, ideas, opinion in a free and a functional society,
sometime people use this right to project negativity into the society. This essay therefore will
argue against the freedom of speech.
The fundamental value of expression to all people is so great that people will by all
means defend it. After all, this is enriched in the First Amendment of the United State
Constitution. However, like any dogma, there are challenges that come with freedom of speech.
Like any other right, people should think of free speech as an inherently good thing and also as
the crisis of free speech can certainly have negative result that pertains to it. Freedom of speech
when is used excessively can lead to less secure, less free and less prosperous society due to

different ideologies, politics and values that are projected by those who insist on fostering their
ideology for personal gains. There can be a crisis of the free speech or who use the right as a
Trojan horse. In the broader sense, the freedom of speech at the national level can be viewed as
part of the propagandistic campaigns projected at configuring or reigniting a culture of war; or as
playing an integral purpose of a resurgent right-wing nationalism. Sometimes, this right is used
by those who want to obtain publicity for gains that they have concealed. For instance, Geert
Wilders is an opportunities racism who manufactures myth as he seek to universalize issues of
race, gender or class. They have framed every debate as they paint themselves as beleaguered
victims due to their ability to dominate, defend, indiscriminate, bully and exclude.
The negative myths propelled by free speech works primarily to invoke freedom of
expression as a sacred, universal principle and most importantly to challenge structural,
normalize, institutionalize issue of sexism, racism, or islamophobia. In this sense, the rights
diverts actual power relations. For instance, while those who express their voice on issue of
gender decry censorship, they also deny their critics a voice and they do not take into
consideration how their voice or how they communicate are biased are structured to favor them.
Free speech in the contemporary society has become tragic because it is being used to
weaponries and compel the contrary opinion sect to legitimize range of reactionary exclusionary,
anti-egalitarian goals from empowering corporations. People use it as a catalyst of political
goals, sadly, most of their communication have little to do with free speech at all. Evidently, the
notion of free speech is an ideology that there is a glaring disjuncture between reality and
representation. For instance, the UK administration decided that there is no free speech in
campus, student responded by exaggerating free speech crisis in their favor through citing polls

which favor their freedom of expression, yet repeatedly they caricature freedom of expression as
a fascist snowflakes (Leaker 1).
Sometimes freedom of speech can be coopted by some people to serve antidemocratic
ends. This is done through decidedly unemancipatiory political formations, postulated to attack
social justice, equal rights and basic norms of tolerance. In this case freedom of speech is
removed from centaury ideals of ensuring that pursuit of truth prevails, it does not serve the
purpose of progress because it is an improvement of mankind for personal gains. The freedom of
expression can incite violence against other people. There are constitutionally permissible
violation as a result of the free speech. For instance, the outbreak of World War II was a result of
e freedom of expression that was castigated by the Nazis and the communist. At the time, people
thought that free speech was a liberal action, yet, the impact of the speech can be felt even today.
Freedom of expression inspire to invoke difference between people, a free regime. More, when
people use free speech to incite, there is intentional abandonment of law or regulation of
obscenity.
The construction of free speech is supposed to compose of free thoughts and action,
however, it is known that the latter must be suppressed when it is dangerous to other people.
However, there are uncertainty over which norms should be government in free speech and to
what extent should freedom of expression be allowed. Today America is awash of hateful and
ugly speech. Both blacks and whites march defiantly while promoting their slogans which are
echoed in devastating rampages. Even the very government officials who are supposed to be
custodian of the very people that elected them are disparaging negative ideology that can only
lead to division in society. For instance, the case of former United State president, Donald trump,
who use his media outlet to promote negative views (White 1). He used his freedom of speech to

create a mob mentality that attach the Capital. This is because freedom of expression without
being control can encourage a grotesque and shameful state of affairs. There are many false and
misleading information that people expresses due to freedom of expression. The First
Amendment has encountered misleading interpretation and discussion. For instance, the talking
head on the news have had discussions that are not informed and often lack an accurate view of
the First Amendment.
The freedom of speech does not mean that one can use it to express anything. This is
because it can spread false information, it can incite violence against other people and create a
paradox when people are allowed to make assertions that are distasteful to the society and can
even further polarize the society. Freedom of speech when is used excessively can lead to less
secure, less free and less prosperous society due to different ideologies and politics. It can also be
used by those who want to obtain publicity for gains that they have concealed and the rights
diverts actual power relations. There are many constitutionally permissible violation as a result
of the free speech. Arguments against freedom of speech can best be viewed from the
perspective of Social Conflict Theory. The theory looks at society as constantly having conflicts
between groups of people. Due to inequality is society, freedom of speech is used to perpetuate
differences and power relations. Sometimes, due to limited resources, bias treatment, or due to
exclusion in politics, or government administration, competition a rises. Social Conflict theory
views freedom of expression as a tool that is used to maintain inequality. For instance, when civil
rights use their right of freedom to expresses their views, they perpetuate conflicts due to
inequality, unequal distribution of resources etc. they seek to maintain their ideology through
coercion. However, denial of freedom of expression can be applied in the social conflict theory.
