2. Preface
Kwok Ka Ming Andre,
Founder,
Future City Summit
F
uture City Summit (FCS) was founded with a brave heart and vision to impact. It was
structured and progressed with a team of 30 cities in emerging Asia and the rest of the
world, with a background in technology, public policy, academia and development
finance to co-create a new vision. What kind of people will we be in 10 years? And what will
“city” mean to us in the next 10 years? Future City Summit Annual Meet 2019 will mark a
milestone of collaboration, development progress and regional partnership. With the
establishment of “Greater Emerging Future Cities Network”, let’s grab a visionary development
agenda for revisiting a greater role for Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area Region in Asia.
L
eaders in the 21st Century require an “Entrepreneurial DNA” which allows them to
embrace risk when the probability of success is slim, make constructive connections
when their proposals are met with scepticism and deliver actionable results when
stakeholders prefer to maintain the status quo. The Fourth Annual Future City Summit, in
collaboration with The University of Chicago, is a global summit of leaders from nations across
several continents. Future City Summit brings people together from a variety of professional
backgrounds who operate in the public and private sectors. The Summit gives these leaders a
platform to openly share ideas, envision a new world and partner to deliver concrete outcomes.
Future City Summit leaders embrace their responsibility to improve the future of “Future City”
dwellers. They also bring with them the passion and feeling of intense responsibility and
ownership to enhance the future for their own citizens and all humanity regardless of the
country, city, neighbourhood or street they call home.
Mark Barnekow,
Executive Director,
The University of Chicago, Hong Kong
3. Future City Summit (FCS) is a non-profit multilateral organisation with a vision that Asia
thrives with the global development, founded in 2016, with the Global Partnership Seed
Fund provided by Vice President Office of The University of Hong Kong. The organisation
has been dedicating in fostering public and private partnership among the young energy in
emerging cities. Every year, the organisation hosts Annual Meet in Hong Kong and a city in
China.
Since 2019, FCS has launched its “Public Private Partnership by Youth”(“PPP by Youth”)
with the first season in the Spring and Summer, firstly in Bali, Manila and Bangkok. The
impact has been remarkable with establishment of “Tourism Network”, “Social Business
Network” and “Bangkok Agenda” underneath. Corresponding financial resources and
partnership lab have been initiated for potential project pipelines and implementation,
especially in tourism, financial inclusion, urban development and cuisine.
As the development progresses, FCS continues to consolidate wide spectrum of
stakeholders through “Greater Emerging Future Cities Network” with high resource
independence and regional credibility.
